  1. You can still get it - just load the Kindle for PC app on your PC and purchase it with her account! That way, you can read books she has as well as ones you order. That's how my wife and I do it for now (until I can find a new job and can afford a Kindle or some other pad of my own). BTW - the price I originally quoted as $16.49 US is for the first edition. Just released (and at $10.99 US and $19.57 US through Amazon.com) is the Second Edition copy. I wonder if the Kindle version has links to the software copies that are on the CD? Of course, at that price, I might just grab a copy of each - one for the Kindle and one for placing under my pillow in anticipation of a visit by the Arcade Fairy! .:.EDIT - Just bought the Kindle Edition and the links are there for the software on the CD. Also got lots of purdy pics and great mention of GameEx! Woot!
  2. Probably much of the time. If you require real-time support, you may want to send Frequency a message by clicking on his name and then clicking on the "Send me a message" link to ask him what dates/times he may have available. Keep in mind that he is in US Mountain Daylight Time when trying to coordinate a time with him to meet with you in chat.
  3. Well, it's $16.49 US for the Kindle edition... hmmm... wonder what my wife will say.. lol!
  4. That is awesome! Think he would mind you scanning the part about GameEx and sharing with the community?
  5. From what i have seen TeamViewer is pretty cool to say the least. Likely, I will stick with RDP as I seldom have need to remote into anything other than my server since it is headless. Otherwise, my wife and I have our office in the same room for our desktop systems. All of our systems are mapped to shares on the server so moving files is pretty easy (copy to a share - copy from a share). The less additional programs installed and maintained works best for me. Like to keep things as simple as possible.
  6. Wet knap?
  7. Thanks, Tom!
  8. Leisure Suite Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards is an old fave. The humor in Duke Nukem was also pretty good.
  9. You should be able to - best to review the bug fixes on the MAME site. I have not found too many problems with upgrading from an immediate previous version up to the next. CHDs (Compressed Hunks of Data) are digital versions of laser disk or hard disk data. Some ROMs also require CHDs for those games that require them unzipped and in a folder of the same name as the ROM. Further explanation can be found here.
  10. I think that GameEx was able to "key into" the features once supported by MAME to create MNG files. Since I have never used the feature in the past, I couldn't tell you what version of MAME changed this (may be in the MAMEDev revision histories on their website somewhere). I still think your best option may be to obtain the files you need and convert to the format you need on the cab.
  11. How did you set it up on your machines, etc? Did you use the VNC option or what?
  12. I might suggest looking to sites such as emumovies.com where you can find quite a few avi and flv video snaps for a reasonable contribution. I am certain that there are plenty of open source Linux and Windows conversion programs that will allow you to easily convert these to the mng format you need for your cab.
  13. We would be foolish to think that lopping the big head off of the hydra is going to slay the beast. There are many little heads vying to take his place and you can guarantee they will be betting on us lulling ourselves into a false sense of complacency. Since our leadership does not have the stomach to stay the course I will not be surprised if we get caught with our pants down in the not too distant future.
  14. I wouldn't say "genius" but perhaps just well informed.
  15. Congrats, Mesk! Wait... I'm a GOD! Woot! (Draco1962 - Legend in his own mind)
  16. Teamviewer appears to be similar to Bomgar and Citrix Go-To-Assist (Bomgar requires installing a small client piece and "key" from the server app for the remote location to access). I do like the following attributes: â?¢ Includes genuine VPN channel (Virtual Private Network) in addition to pure desktop sharing â?¢ Operates without configuration, even through firewalls and proxy servers â?¢ Support of UAC (Windows Vista / Windows 7) â?¢ Multi-monitor support â?? transmit or display the monitor of your choice â?¢ Installation as Windows system service possible at no extra cost so that 24/7 access to target computer is possible (example: remote server maintenance) â?¢ Direct LAN connection via TCP/IP possible; software is also suitable for use in LAN without an Internet connection â?¢ Web Connector â?? Do you need to be able to carry out critical tasks in an emergency when you are on the road (e.g., on a holiday from the hotel or an Internet café)? Simply control remote computers via the web browser without an installation (pure HTML and Flash) â?¢ Portable version â?? Take your personal configured TeamViewer with you and start it, e.g., directly from your USB stick â?¢ Permanent access to unattended computers/ servers with TeamViewer Host Could possibly be a viable alternative to UltraVNC. Likely I will test this in my LAN environment real soon.
  17. Jeremy - Glad you got things working! Please locate and upload your GameEx.ini and log files following an attempt to update the list. The gameex.ini file can be found in the \GameEx\CONFIG path and will need to be saved as a text file via Notepad before uploading to the forum. The log.txt file is located under \GameEx\LOG . These files will help us to better diagnose what is happening. Thanks, Mike
  18. I am glad that Bin Laden has finally met his much deserved and overdue demise. So many lives lost because of him and his followers directly. So many gave their lives willingly to find him and end his days on this planet. God bless the sons and daughters of the nations that fought alongside the U.S. or lent support to end his terror and the tyranny that his brand of Islam would impose on those that did not believe as he and his followers. This is not a battle against Islam. It is against terror using its name as an excuse to kill and subjugate. It is fitting that no Islamic nation would accept his remains as none but a few extremists would give him prayers of forgiveness. His burial at sea was far more honorable than what what he would have received at home. It is my hope and prayer that all abroad stay vigilante and, while they may have cause to celebrate, they keep in mind that his followers are many and that they will be unyielding in their resolve to prove their legitimacy and viability in his absence. Nature abhors a vacuum. Others will step forward to try to fill the void left by his death. May we all remember the history that lead to this day so that we will not repeat the mistakes that put this sorry excuse of a man in a position of power.
  19. Jeremy - OK, you are not able to get Metal Slug to work. Are you able to get any of the games to work in MAME? I think we all need to take a few steps back and begin by asking a few questions to which all will need to be answered please: Q1. What version of MAME are you attempting to use? A1. MAME .141 Q2. What version are your ROMs, BIOS files, and (if applicable) CHDs? A2. Q3. Besides Metal Slug, have you successfully run any games from within MAME? A3. Q4. Have you confirmed that your file names match for the ROM and BIOS files? A4. Q5. Have you setup your file paths within MAME Options? A5. Q6. Have you audited your ROMS within MAME (provided you have setup the file paths within MAME first)? A6.
  20. I like the RDP as it is what I am most familiar with from my former job, but have also used VNC products of one sort or another. I find RDP a little easier to setup due to that familiarity. One thing I would recommend, though is having your PCs assigned a static IP within your network. Most newer routers will support static assignments within your dynamic range and it is how I have my wifi printer and my PC & laptop, My wife's Kindle & PC, and our 2003 server setup. RDP setup for the PCs and the server. IF you go with UltraVNC as an option, I am not certain but it might be more steady with static IPs assigned as well.
  21. Sweet setup, Matt! I like the marquee monitor quite a bit. Very expert work on the cab, great deck as well!
  22. I think that RDP is the best for what you are doing. The problem is that Remote Desktop and Terminal Services are not installed/enabled within XP Home and may require that you convert to XP Pro (check out these links for installing and enabling Remote Desktop in XP Home and Converting XP Home to XP Pro). Once that is done, you should be good to go without any expense or adding another piece of 3rd party software such as a VNC solution.
  23. Definitely larger. Whenever possible would like the original logos. There are a lot of faux logos about usually the result of an enthusiast for their own website. So, in some cases, having to do a little research to determine the authenticity of the logo. I know it may sound a bit anal retentive but going for as close as I can to an original to go with the system image it's associated with.
  24. Thanks, Krakerman! I think I may have provided some of those to you so may need them back at some point! What I am finding is that the system images are more plentiful than the actual company or system logos themselves, such as the original Tandy logos circa TRS-80 or CoCo (and even the logos for those specific systems are very difficult to find). Sometimes I can lift images from a box or flyer image, but those are far and few between and the image quality for logos obtained that way is really hit-or-miss and requires a lot of clean-up. Any contributions for images and company/system logos you would like to see of the more obscure systems, please feel free to upload them to the"More tinkering with the GIMP" thread if you would like to see them as part of this logo pack! Thanks to all! Mike
