there are quite a number of factors to be considered. First, if he were to build a simple file server (Windows Server 2003 would be fine for this but there are other systems that may be considered), it may require an investment in gigabit NICs and router, but should handle the throughput without much problem over an internal network. Wireless N speeds should be no problem for most. LAN over powerline accessories are also making some modest speed gains as well. Powered USB hubs could handle it as Adultery suggests, but an actual server can provide much more flexibility and scalability. Best thing is to "google" about and look at various alternatives. Most systems end up as a hybrid of one or all of these features, depending on need.

It may come in useful for others facing the same dilemma! With your permission we'll mark this thread as resolved!

Have you considered building/running a server? Then it would be a matter of pointing to the drive assignments on the server. I think there are a few that have a server setup from which they are running from HTPC, cabs, desktop/laptop, etc.

DjoneK - what OS are you running? Also, have you looked at Display Changer? It appears that it is capable of changing the resolution, launching the program, and reverting back again via command line switches. It includes a console addition for using the command lines in batches and scripts that you could load before and after. Might be worth a look! Also, if using Windows 7 should allow changing from one monitor to another. To access this feature you need to press Win+P or run DisplaySwitch.exe. Thereafter select the display that you want. Not sure how to do this with a command line or batch file. It may also leave you with the same results you currently have, but if there is a way to switch which is assigned as the primary for the specific program, then change back, it may be doable.

You can find the answer to your questions regarding registered version features here. You may need to take a look at the filtering options in Advanced MAME Settings section to see what you have that may be conflicting with another option. You can try removing mslug from your do not filter these games and turn all filter options to no, re-run the update list to see if the games appear. Also make sure that all of your Show XXXX (Vertical, CPS, etc) games options are enabled.

Once you have the emulators installled and ROM paths, snap paths, etc. are setup within, you will need to look into each emulators options to see if there is an audit feature. That will update dat or whatever other file formats where they store the info. GameEx has integrated MAME support for updating the game list, but not for the other emulators.

Not sure what to tell you with regards to using an iPad. Do you have another controller or game pad with which to test to see if it may work?

Nexus6 - Color me confuzzled. If you need Keyboard -> Keyboard mapping, um, why use a mapping utility and just use a keyboard directly? I know with Logitech Game Profiler you can record your key presses for the game pad so if you need a combo for a button, you could program a button to fire repeatedly x the number of repeating the key press in the recording. Of course you will have to press the "repeated fire" button several times as needed. Can you provide a little more clarification of what you are trying to achieve? Might help if you told us what kind of controller you are using (Gamepad, arcade controls, etc.). If arcade controls, let us know if you are using IPAC or similar interface for your controls.

Welcome to the forum, greenaway! Theme Editor allows you to edit the layouts of the theme elements. You can modify or remove certain aspects of the theme (image 2 as you noted in the example given) by placing 0 in the Width and Height fields and outside of the theme's X and Y coordinates. Some variables/behaviors are governed by the various settings through the Advanced Configuration or Setup Wizard. There are also some settings that are changed by clicking "Change View" in the menu bar after loading GameEx. Each time you click it will give you an option to have snaps displayed in the background, still or video snaps in a grid view, or standard list view. Best thing to do is load it up and make changes here and there to see how they display. The key is being familiar with how GameEx functions so that your changes integrate into it it as you need them to. As always, we are here to help with any specific questions you may have.

That sounds sweet. Was talking with Adultery about a pedestal setup so that I can use the big screen when friends/family are over, or cart it out of the way when not in use (or use an LCD monitor on the pedestal when the big screen is not available and I need to get some game time in).

No - Have always used HK's MAME Compiler.

Ben - above are the errors I am getting when attempting to compile for mameUI 0.142u4 . Any ideas why this is occurring? I will attempt a compile applying just through 0.142u3 to see if it may have to do with recent changes in u4.
