  1. Tom - That is fantastic! Thanks for the effort! If you should desire to add the interpreter for Interactive Fiction (Text Adventures) under the PC section, here is a link to download the Windows Frotz Interpreter for the Z-Code Interactive Fiction games made popular by Infocom and Adventure International (by Scott Adams). Also the link to the author David Kindler's page. The db I pieced together along with config for this interpreter has been submitted under the Pinned Topics for User Submitted Databases.
  2. Cat5e is sufficient, it is certainly OK for the job and more resistant to crosstalk than standard Cat5. Cat6, as you probably surmised through your web searches, is 100% certified for Gigabit and less likely to encounter crosstalk and other RF interference from sources such as power lines, etc. As long as all else is gigabit (routers, switches, NICs) then you should be fine. When stringing your network, try to resist the temptation to follow paths of your power lines and, whenever possible, if you have to cross a power line, do so perpendicular to the direction the power line is running to minimize any RF interference from it. This is what is done when wiring remote speakers for home theater systems and is recommended for PC networks as well.
  3. I have seen some GameEx themes that can hold their own against HS any day. Not knocking it because it is a great FE, but I much prefer GameEx as it is worlds away easier to configure and fits my needs and the forum support here is second to none.
  4. New Theme - Joust for Cabinets 800x600! Details here.
  5. Theme Title: Joust Theme Category: Cabinet Theme Version: V4 Theme Resolution: 800 x 600 Theme Description: Theme based upon the original bezel and elements and original game sounds. Theme Features: Large collection of original logos with system images. Date, Time, Weather, Select 1 & 2 features enabled. Color Key disabled to take advantage of "true black" and transparencies. Scroller and Pop-up disabled to avoid clutter and keep arcade machine "feel" as much as is possible. Date Submitted: 07/20/2011 Download URL: http://www.gameex.com/themes/Joust.zip Download Size: 67 MB Additional Notes: Special thanks to Adultery for providing feedback!
  6. But your gamer tag says you are playing Joust! I am sure that there is plenty you can do without it and let me know if ya need any assistance with 7, although I doubt you will. Once you get used to the interface and UAC, it is a breeze compared to XP IMHO.
  7. Always well-done, if not always understood, Ben! Your assistance is always appreciated and timely and I look forward to more in the future! You and Tom let me know when you are ready to tear into a new Theme Editor as I will be glad to put it through its paces!
  8. This can be done or I would not suggest it. Try it for a year and if you are not convinced of the software's ability to meet your needs, then you have lost little.
  9. If you copy your Gameex\config directory to another location all should be fine and you can copy it back. GameEx will default to the last login so you will need to logout to go into another account. ALso, when using custom menus, there is a check block that has to be selected to "Use Custom Menus." Unfortunately no manual available. That is why I recommend getting used to the feel and layout of the program defaults before venturing forward with custom menu changes.
  10. Andriy - Because of the structure of GameEx, it will not emulate the kind of thumbnail display you get with media browser. There are options, however, in the Change View that allow you to cycle through displaying static and video snaps in the background (replaces the theme on that page), as an image (again, static or video snap) instead of a verbal list, etc. That would be the closest I think that you will come to what you are seeking. Mike
  11. Hi Kozyura and welcome to the GameEx forums! I will attempt to address some of your questions and others are free to jump in. What I would recommend is getting acquainted with GameEx for a bit before adventuring to some changes. Regarding this question, there is a two-fold strategy I would recommend but it is going to take some experience under your belt first and, as always, we are here to help. My recommendations are as follows: - Enable multiple GameEx login support. You will notice that there is a utility under the root GameEx directory named Login.exe. This allows you to create multiple GameEx logon IDs. Once you have them setup, you may use this to access GameEx instead of GameEx.exe through the ID. This will allow you to use themes, custom menus, etc. setups for each ID you create. A separate configuration will be saved for each Logon ID you create. I would recommend that the Admin ID be setup to have full access to all features so that you can make changes as necessary. - Enable custom menus - There is also an application called Custom Menus. While you can enable and disable many options in GameEx, You may want to consider a custom menu specific for your child that will have only a few options available. Game snaps (static or video) are actually fairly reasonable size already. I might need a visual example of what you are talking about to ensure that I am advising you correctly about the correct image to which you are referring. Can you provide a screen image copy and attach in reply to this with a little more detail? Thanks!
  12. Mark this one as resolved. I checked and both match now. Not sure in what version they were corrected as I didn't see mention of this particular error in the updates. I have been busy looking for work and working on themes so really haven't paid close attention to how my system was functioning.
  13. Danka Shane! Mercy Buckets! Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto!
  14. Yes - quite a few forum members use the FLV video snaps. Moving this thread to the General Forum
  15. Tom - I am not running into the intermittent issue with the program names changing now as the db for the emulator is working fine now. I am still, However, running into issues for which the thread was started where the emulator settings in the gameex.ini and custommenu.ini files do not update correctly to reflect any emulator sorts performed through the setup wizard.
  16. Dan - What part of the issue are you bumping?
  17. Celly was kind enough to demo video the Space Invaders theme for me - I have added it to the Theme Competition thread and you can also view it . Thanks, Celly! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-P4C0_ePC8
  18. Not sure but why reinvent the wheel when you could possibly adapt a solution already available for your needs? I found this site doing my usual "Googling" about. While this is primarily for adding front access to the usual ports via an empty drive bay, it could probably be easily adapted to your needs without having to hack and solder your existing connections.
  19. My first foray into a cabinet resolution theme - Joust!
  20. Seriously.. *sigh* And people ask why I don't go out much... it is because of people like that. Isn't it kinda like saying "If I cut you, so long as it heals, I haven't committed assault?"
  21. I would go with the War Room with the color vector outline graphics to be in keeping with the War Room displays.
  22. Ok, Grasshopper... do you want to know how to grab the pebble from the Master's hand? Find the case you are looking for along with the mobo, CPU, ram, HDD, GPU you are looking for. If you are like me, you probably have an extra DVD-RW laying about. Get that built! "Honey, it looks like this is gonna work out great, but would be really great if we could play Blue Ray disks on it..." "I found some really sweet software on the web, but it doesn't quite work as I expected or need it to..." Next, add the blue ray burner, and software (likely the items putting you over budget)! Now let any guy on this forum tell me that they have never, ever done this before and I will call them either a liar or an ugly virgin!
  23. Well just shoot my plans to Hell. Thanks, Buddy! LOL!
  24. No disagreement from me there. I have a P4 that is currently acting as a file server using Server 2003. It will likely become a cab PC one day as I plan to build a dedicated HTPC to handle the more recent emulations as well as audio and video streaming chores. I will probably dedicate the P4 to run MAME, Daphne, first and second gen consoles/handhelds, and Pinball on it when that day comes with XP Pro as the OS of choice for it.
