Welcome aboard patrickfx! We have lots of games to choose from. Please don't feel limited to just submitting scores on our GOTM. In fact, we encourage you to try and beat our GOTM champs from previous games. Don't forget that any scores you submit will earn you points towards the overall leaderboard too. So even if you don't have a super great score, you'll still have an idea of where you're at and see who you can topple next! Let me know if you have any questions or issues. We tried to make this as easy and friendly as possible! @RedDog - Not bad! I think we just gotta look past the fact that we have 2 or 3 elitists, and just keep our own smaller scores close to heart. That's pretty much how I'm looking at it. There's no way I can catch ExedExes or MO. So I'm looking more at beating those scores closer to where my level is. But honestly, you're score isn't that bad. Both of the scores on your ingame list are better than my 1st attempt. So take to heart knowing that you're already better than me. I think with practice you'll probably kill my score! Updated OP, DB, RSS

Yeah I knew it was done.... I found the link by the way: https://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/12556-you-gotta-see-this/ I knew I posted it. Wow, 2013.. gee.

Thanks. Hopefully it's a work in progress. That hammer throw stage is hard. You have to be spinning pretty fast to get it far, but too fast and you can't tell when to throw. I actually fouled out each time. Javelin is pretty hard too because you don't have much room to run and the foul line creeps up fast on you.

Here's my first submission: Score: 35,800 Initials: HAN Stage: Hammer I gotta tell ya, having never played this game before, I was completely lost on the controls. I saw there were 3 buttons when entering the initials, but my controller wasn't set up the way their panels are, so that was confusing. Then in the games, I thought I had to rapidly tap the 2 side buttons alternatively like in some other Atari games I've played. So I had a decent run in the 100m dash, but then kept jumping way early on the Long Jump. Apparently the button I was using for the other "foot" was the "jump" button. So I fouled out a lot. Once I figured out that it was just one button I needed for running, and the other for action, I did much better. But I never made it past the hammer toss. I restarted the game (to see what the reset world records dip does) once I figured out how the buttons work. Apparently, the reset world records changes the records from "NULL" to an actual stat. Since I'm not good enough to beat any of them, I don't know if it gives you a bonus for beating one or not. Updated OP, DB, RSS

Join me in wishing Tthurman "Shuwatch!" on his birthday

Happy belated! -
I think I posted this years ago, and if I didn't I'm sorry I didn't. I saw this video and joined his site so I could keep up on his progress. Looks like an engineering nightmare, but a lot of fun.

Thanks for being honest MO and resetting the dips to match our requirements. At first, while scrolling through the page, I didn't see your score, so I was almost about to disqualify you. LOL! Nice score. Consider it added! Thanks Cynicaster for modifying your settings as well. And it looks like you're our current leader! That's an interesting question, and would require some research. I've never played this game, so I don't know the mechanics of it. But it seems to me, if you wipe the world records, then every time you go to play it you'll be earning new world records, and be earning a bonus (if it's true). So I don't think Twin Galaxies would have their rules set in such a manner that you earn a bonus for setting a new world record if they require you to wipe them. Updated OP, DB, RSS

Battle Damage - Unofficial Star Wars Hype Thread
hansolo77 replied to tthurman's topic in Social Club
I had 4 Ralph McQuarrie posters hanging in my room for years (Docking Bay 94, The Trench Run (camera behind Luke), Hoth Battle (with the tow cable), and the light saber battle with Darth and Han Solo (yep, he's wearing a breathing mask, but it's him he has a gun and blood stripe pants...), before I learned the value of proper mounting. The first was just thumb-tacked in place, and the other 3 were just taped. I was an ignorant kid. Had I known, I would have framed them. Even posters are valuable to some people. I even had a "Revenge of the Jedi" marquee poster from a legit theater my uncle gave me for Christmas one year because he knew I liked Star Wars. It was rolled up and inside a cardboard tube. I only took it out once to look at it. Shame it was destroyed in the "fire". I lost so much stuff. That marquee poster has got to be worth a LOT since they changed the name to "Return of the Jedi". Now that I think about it, I also had the 3 VHS box cover posters hanging over my bed, and the Return of the Jedi poster was the one with the color error in the light sabers (where Darth's was green and Luke's was red). Nobody recognized the importance of it till I pointed it out to them. And I had 3 posters (still shrink wrapped) in a trashbag in the basement that got all molded from the fire suppression that were Mosaics.. each poster was scene and if you got up close you would see it was a whole bunch of cut up frames from their respected movies. I remember Darth Vader and Yoda, but can't remember the other one. GRRRRRR. EDIT... Here's those: And here's the best photo I can find on the internet of the Return of the Jedi poster with the wrong color light sabers: -
Thanks for being honest rtkiii. I've never actually played this game, so it'll be a new experience for me. I plan on trying to play it some tomorrow. Vacation is officially half over and I've done nothing but read about 100 comics (I'm 3 months behind!). And thanks for the info about needing to restart for the settings to take affect.

I dunno... the story goes that he made it to his car, then 5-10 minutes later the bear was chasing him again? WTF...
-
If you read the comments, it looks like it was part of some scavenger hunt. "Find and take a photo of a girl wearing cheese in front of an old car". Makes sense to me.
-
Yeah I think that's why they went with the 1 play through setting. Keeps it legit for submitting scores.
-
Yes, just one play through. That's the TwinGalaxies rules. I don't really care much about the World Records, and there's no way somebody here is going to hit that 100k mark. But by keeping it as one play through, that will keep it fair with the "official" rules, and essentially restrict the 1credit/1game aspect of our own rules. If you're really good at this game, you could inevitably continue playing indefinitely with the game "restarting" after each run through. This way we have a definite Game Over.

Hey all, I've been pretty quite over here lately because I've been busy moderating our High Score Competition and chatting it up in the Social Club. But I thought I'd swing over here real quick, and post up a quick little advertisement about our High Score Competition. I realize this forum section is mostly dedicated to support, but there are threads in here not directly related to that, and this would fit in. This forum is active every day with new users joining in and seeking advice on setting up their installations. Not every body that visits here is aware there are OTHER forums here as well, so I'd like to take this opportunity to first of all welcome you to the wonderful world of GameEx, and secondly to direct your attention over to our subforums.. Namely and specifically, the Competition one. This forum was set aside so that GameEx users like you can play against other GameEx users and submit their scores for tracking in a High Score Competition. Our RULES are simple (1 credit/1 game, set your DIPs to match a world-set standard, and post a screenshot). We currently have 109 games that are actively supported, as well as monthly featured competitions. You're not limited to just posting scores in the GOTM (Game of the Month), and posting scores on games we played years ago can be beneficial to the Overall Leaderboard. Yes that's right! We have a game-specific leaderboard, and a global leaderboard that calculates your position across all the games you've played and lets you see how you stack up against everybody else. The competition has been fading out as of late. Not really sure why, perhaps it's a lack of interest in the games we offer, or it's a time factor where nobody has time to play. But that's the beauty of our competition.. you can play and submit scores on ANY game ANY time. The GOTM is just a featured game that we're showcasing. Having the highest score there doesn't impact anything, other than getting your name added to a separate board, and a signature badge (currently unavailable as our artist is AWOL but assures me will be back). A new user who's never submitted a score with us can easily move up the ranks. In fact, our lowest score on the overall board is 30. That's equivalent to a submission of 3 games with the lowest possible score, or one game with a placement of 8. So by simply playing 4 games, you'll already move up a spot! By having better than the lowest score on those games, well you can move up even faster! And honestly, a lot of our games don't even have 8 submissions yet, so you'll REALLY be moving! So why not come over and check us out. The competition may seem fierce, but that's just because we love it so much. It's all about having fun. We look forward to seeing you there! -> GameEx High Score Competition <- Moderator note -> If this thread is to be moved or deleted, can we at least keep it here for a couple days, to possibly attract new users? Thanks!

LEADERBOARD Hi-Score Competition
hansolo77 replied to GimmeClassics's topic in GameEx Hi-Score Competition
Updated Leaderboard to show movements from September's GOTM Competition. -
This month's bonus game is Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. It was suggested back in March 2016 by @Draco1962 and finally voted as the 2nd best option in September's round of voting., Thanks for the suggestion Draco1962, and enjoy this game everybody else! Michael Jackson's Moonwalker is the name of several video games based on the 1988 Michael Jackson film Moonwalker. U.S. Gold published various games for home computers, released in 1989, whilst Sega developed two similarly themed beat 'em up video games in 1990; one released for arcades and another released for the Mega Drive/Genesis and Master System. Each of the games' stories loosely follow the story of the film, in which Michael Jackson must rescue kidnapped children from the evil Mr. Big, and incorporate synthesized versions of the musician's hits, such as Beat It and Smooth Criminal. The games, particularly the Genesis adaptation, have achieved cult status. Different from the home computer version, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (マイケル・ジャクソンズ・ムーンウォーカー Maikeru Jakusonzu Mūn'wōkā?) is an arcade video game by Sega (programming) and Triumph International (audiovisuals), with the help of Jackson which was released on the Sega System 18 hardware. This game suffered from Sega's suicide battery[2] on its arcade board (a battery that, accidentally or otherwise, renders the game unplayable at the end of its lifespan). The arcade has distinctively different gameplay from its computer and console counterparts, focusing more on beat 'em up gameplay elements rather than platform. Quote from Wikipedia (link)

This month's game was suggested MANY months ago by a fellow participant, but was never voted on till now. So here's your chance to shine @rtkiii!!!! There was a mention of a cheating tactic that helps "save your fingers". I'm not familiar with this, so if more information can be brought to light, I'll update the OP with official determination. From what I can see over at TwinGalaxies they have a few different categories from which to select from. A standard points, a points with "Engineering", a points with included trackball, etc. I'm going with the standard/default points. It seems to be the one that would be most useful. It doesn't require any special controls (not all people have trackballs in their cabs), or special engineering capabilities. The "buttons only" category also shows a TwinGalaxies requirement of having video proof you're only using buttons. Since we don't require videos in our friendly competition here, I decided not to use that one. However, you should be using buttons only lol.. Also, it should be noted that the current World Record holder for this game, verified as of 2005, has not achieved beyond the 100k mark, so seeing scores posted here with that 100k "Bonus Life" given will automatically be disqualified. There's no way in hell you legitimately earned that, or else you'd be on the TwinGalaxies website long before coming here. We don't offer any prizes or rewards, but TwinGalaxies does, and you might even get Guinness to come over to your house and make it official. Just saying. NO CHEATING smh. Also, If you decide not to change any of the default settings, I'm honestly ok with that provided you at least change the "After Last Event" setting. The default setting for Bonus Life is NONE, so no big difference there. The default setting for World Records is to NOT ERASE. So keeping your World Records would be a nice thing to see when you come back to the game in the future. But please change the After Last Event so the game properly ends rather than having you keep playing and earning even higher scores. Track & Field, known in Japan as Hyper Olympic (ハイパーオリンピック Haipā Orinpikku?), is a 1983 Olympic-themed sports arcade game developed and published by Konami. The Japanese release sported an official license for the 1984 Summer Olympics. The arcade version was released in 1983. The simple gameplay, based on quick repeating button presses, set the basics for sequels and similar games in the genre for the next decades. There were several home versions of the original; the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC versions were only released as part of the Game, Set and Match II compilation in 1988, and are poorly regarded by fans.[1][2] The NES version was especially well-received, and sold well.[citation needed] Quote from Wikipedia (link)

This month's GOTM was an interesting battle. We had a couple of players do really well, and a couple of players...well..not so much. But we certainly had fun participating. We need more though, so tell your friends and lets see if we can't get more activity in here! So without further delay, here is our official announcement for the September 2016 GOTM winner! Mame Offender - 134,250 Congrats buddy you earned it! Stay tuned for our next competition!

I'm not much of a gamer anymore, so I can hardly approve the cost to upgrade my system. Like DazzleHP said, a console would only be enjoyable for me from a social stand point. Albeit there are some games out that I'd really like to play, if nothing more than to follow the story. For instance, Halo, Gears of War, Fallout, etc. Is the latest Final Fantasy coming to Xbox One? That'd be another reason. I think what really slapped me in the face was when Destiny came out. My buddies I played every night with all got it opening night (they had been part of the early access) and told me I needed to get it. So I bought it blindly. Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with the game. I don't like grinds, and that's pretty much what that game was (is?). Those hours wasted just collecting stuff hoping to upgrade your stats is just boring as hell. When it was decided they were going to play that and nothing else, I just let my subscription to Live expire, and haven't looked back ever since. I think I haven't turned on my Xbox in over a year and a half now. The muted desire is there for the social points and to continue various stories, but I really have no desire to go out and drop hundreds of dollars on upgrading my PC when I don't even play on the Xbox 360 as it is. To be honest, this has all actually been a huge eye opener for how much lack of gaming I've actually brought myself. So the fact that I was even asking if I should go out and buy a Slim or just wait seems almost moot. My only argument at this point would be "When I move out, I'll just be sitting in my place bored with nothing to do". But that's not really true either.. I have emulators and ROMs, and a home-built server with hundreds of TV shows and movies on it. I could easily spend the rest of my life watching everything I have....especially with my life existing as "work, 3-4 hours awake, sleep, work".
-
Yeah it was just too funny, coming home from work and seeing 2 scores, with Cynicaster's being more than MO's for first place, then realizing MO's newest was even higher. That's just hilarious.
-
Hah! I love it! Just when Cynicaster thought he had a score to be #1, MO pulls out a fast one and "drops the mic" on 183k. Wow good job guys, I'm totally not worthy. Updated OP, DB, RSS
