  1. Black Widow is a vector arcade game developed by Atari released in 1982. The player takes the role of a Black widow spider defending a web from invading bugs. The player must move the spider around the web while simultaneously shooting/avoiding various bugs and collecting the bonuses that appear after the enemies are eliminated. The game is a twin-stick shooter in the vein of Robotron: 2084 by Williams, but with fewer enemies on-screen. Black Widow was offered as a conversion kit for Gravitar, which met poor commercial success.[citation needed] The kit used the original Gravitar PCB with a few small modifications and a new set of ROM chips. Many factory-built Black Widows were produced using unsold Gravitar cabinets with Black Widow sideart applied over the Gravitar sideart. To destroy certain enemies, the player must lure other enemies into destroying them. There is also the Bug Slayer, a bug that helps the player eliminate enemies, with only loss of potential points being the only consequence. The Bug Slayer can help the player in tough situations, but can also prevent the player from achieving the number of extra lives necessary to endure later, more difficult, rounds. Also, other enemies appear on the playing field as eggs, laid by other enemies. The player can move these eggs off the playing field to both eliminate the enemy and receive points, before it reaches maturity. Enemies and Scoring Mosquito - If shot, becomes '$'. Beetle - Eats '$', but if shot, becomes '$'. Hornet - Lays an egg on '$', but if shot, becomes '$'. Egg - Grows to become hornet or spoiler. Must be pushed off the web to score 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, or even 2500 points. Grub Steak - Tag for 500, 250, 100, or 50 points—the sooner the better. Spoiler - Invulnerable. Can only be destroyed by a grenade bug, bug slayer or rocket bug. Grenade Bug - Explodes if shot. Bugs and eggs within the kill zone score 500 points each. Rocket Bug - Invulnerable. Launches "rockettes" at black widow from the other bugs it tags. Shoot rockettes to score 1000 points each. Thunderbug - If shot, it breaks formation and attacks. If shot again, it explodes all other T-bugs for 5000 points. Keep away from all T-bugs to earn 10000 points. The resulting chain reaction from multiple thunderbugs is very dangerous and can encompass over 80% of the level at some times, depending on how many T-bugs are involved. Bug Slayer - Harmless to the player and invulnerable. The Bug Slayer competes with the Black Widow for food. Beat it to its flashing prey for points James Vollandt holds the official record for this game with a maximum 930,100 points.[2] - Quote from Wikipedia And here it is! Our April 2017 GOTM! This game was voted on, so I don't wanna hear no complaints lol! Actually, I vaguely remember hearing about this game, but have never played it until today when I was checking the DIPs. It's actually pretty good, and highly addictive! Can't wait to see what kind of contest we have in store. No cheaters! Even Wikipedia says the official record is only 930,100! Remember, we're just having fun here! Another quick side note.. there are some settings you need to change. There are 2 different competitions over at Twin Galaxies for this game, a Marathon mode, and a Tournament mode. While I know a bunch of our guys are REALLY good, and can probably play this forever... I felt like the Tournament settings were better. Rather than giving you less lives but the option of earning more, the Tournament settings limit you to just 5 and no chance to earn more. That way we won't have a run away circus on our hands. Lets get those scores coming in! And thanks to all who participate and keep this forum alive!

  3. And that, gentlemen (do we have any ladies around here?) concludes our March 2017 GOTM contest. With an absolutely incredible score, Cynicaster has won this month! Please join me in congratulating this fine Pro Wrestler! I'd also like to take a moment to thank everybody who participated this month. Our numbers are dwindling, but our enjoyment of the game hasn't left! Thanks for keeping the competition alive! Another quick note. Just because Cynicaster won our showcase GOTM, that doesn't mean you have to stop playing. We encourage you to continue playing and submit scores. There's more going on here than just the GOTM. Every score you submit gets calculated into the Overall Leaderboard. That's where the true honor lies! We also really like to see our champs get knocked off their thrones, so please keep those submissions coming and beat Cynicaster at his game! That's all for now, see you at the next round!
  4. Home servers are the best. You just gotta have a little bit of know how. The other thing you need is an ISP that provides decent bandwith.. My server is great, but my upload speed is the schlitz.
  5. Bravo! Now if they could let people who bought the game before get it for free, that would be awesome. Because I HAVE the game. They should offer it as a free HD upgrade patch. I even have the Brood War expansion.
  6. You have a couple of days still. I won't be updating and making the official announcement until Saturday. (although I think we know who won lol)
  7. So true. If I ever get the money together, I will definitely be installing 2 sticks on my own cab I'll build some day. There's a lot of great games that use it, beside the ability to having 2 players.
  8. Yeah, not having a dual stick setup does hinder your capabilities. I only had 1 stick on the "control panel" (if you want to call it that) I made, and was never able to try this game more. I have a dual stick (dualshock/xbox type) controller, but never set it up. Might have to go through that for Black Widow. And I hear ya about the game making you feel good one minute then kill you outright the next. A lot of my scoring runs tend to go that way. If I spend the time to actually PLAY it and not just a couple of minutes then call it quits, I get into a rhythm like that where you're unstoppable. You think "I got this", and sure, you do for a while. Then all of a sudden, your nose itches or something and for a split second you lose focus and it's all down the drain. Nice of you to submit a score for this game again. When I have some free time, I'm definitely going to be going back into our older roster of games and try to freshen up a new score here and there! 9. Each thread in the main forum is a game. You submit your score in whatever thread correlates to the game you played. THIS thread is used to show what your total score is, calculated from all of your submissions.
  10. Wow awesome score! I was actually just playing this the other day on my Nintendo. Definitely secures your 1st place (for now.......) Updated OP, DB, RSS PS, welcome back to the forums!
  11. I wish I could stumble upon something like that. Like an old mall that closed up, ask around and get permission to go inside and find an old arcade with games still inside. That'd be awesome. Too bad the only mall around here is still open even though it only has maybe 3 shops left out of the 60 or so available, and the arcade is long gone (and it's games). Still, that's pretty cool.
  12. Yeah that's how I have it running now. Windows Server does do automatic nightly incremental backups to a dedicated drive. I'm just looking for something remote. After the fire, I've become super paranoid something like that will happen again. I wouldn't want to transfer that much data nightly. Maybe 1 time, then set up something that would send any incremental updates. No biggie, just curious.
  13. Are there any good cheap (like maybe free?) online storage backup solutions? I'd only want to backup my Server's primary OS drive (120gb) and my main computer's OS drive (40gb). But I want something I can sync to nightly, and can have it automatically do some form of redundancy removal to keep space down. With the cheapness of drives now a days, I feel like a massive crash is bound to happen and I want to be ready. I have a 'seedbox' that gives me 1tb of space, but everything on their system runs in Linux and requires root access to install any 3rd party software they don't automatically provide. Does anything exist for free to do 250gb or so data?
  14. Adultery! You still around man? Check your PMs!
  15. I don't remember.. Did Cyn request this game to be put on the list? Updated OP, DB, RSS
  16. Goood... GooooooD!!! (Poor Star Wars Emperor Impression) Another potential! It's actually so simple.. you don't have to do ANYTHING!! Just play. Make sure your settings (DIPS) match the official rules. Then when you get your initials/name in the game, take a screenshot (F12) and then post it as a reply to the game's thread. There's a little more to it than that, but that's the gist of it. We're a friendly group, so no cheating and no powerhogging,we already have guys that do that lol! (mo, cyn, exed lol) We made a "documentation" of official rules. If anything ever changes, we'll let you know (like games that don't have in game boards, we explain how to make your entry official). Read up here: https://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/12781-rules-guides-and-map-file/ Welcome aboard!
  17. Happy Belated. Hope you spent your birthday earning some killer high scores.
  18. <facepalm> I have no chance. Updated OP, DB, RSS
  19. MUWAHAHAHAHA Glad I didn't waste any money!
  20. My response to that: Updated OP, DB, RSS PS - I love Daisy Ridley.
  21. Believe it or not, this is old news (to me). Still it was pretty neat.
  22. Don't kid yourself, you know you're better than me! Updated OP, DB, RSS
  23. That's typical Hollywood though. They were/are notorious for those types of endings and they suck. Take any episode of any incarnation of Star Trek and you'll see what I mean. Build, build build, then 10 minutes left.. oh well the solution is this thing we just made up that didn't exist in any other episode, and magically doesn't exist in any future episode either, but is the be-all end-all. Ever wonder why they KNOW how to destroy certain ships by adjusting phaser/torpedo harmonics to match their shields, but never use it after the fact? I hate that. The same can be true in movies. Like the Middle Earth movies. They put so much effort into the first one, the other 2 just sucked because it turned into an exhaustive CGI fest to solve issues and make it pretty. I mean, the goal was to destroy The Ring, but to have that be the absolute end? They shoulda just took all the armies in there and done it out right lol. But I loved the books, and mean no disrespect to JRRT.. I just hate how they did it in the movies. About Logan.. don't spoil it for me please? Wolverine has always been my #1 favorite character of all time. Introduced from the FOX cartoons, then in the comics. I followed Hugh Jackman's portrayal of him from the beginning. There's nobody better to fill the role. When I heard this was his last take, I was heart broken. I just can't believe it. I saw on "Live with Kelly" the other day Hugh saying he was sitting in the theater watching it next to Patrick Stewart, and the 2 of them had tears rolling down their faces. I can't wait to see it. But I'm not about to spend money like crazy like I do for Star Wars. I'll see it eventually, hopefully in the theater. But right now I'm saving to make a special date to see Beauty and the Beast with somebody.
  24. It's another one of those games that I'll probably just casually play, rather than dedicate the time to learn the nuances of patterns.
