  1. No problems for me on Vista x64 either Stu

That would mean selecting your game twice though?

It does seem to have some very nice overlay effects but I love my GameEx setup too much to switch Stu
  4. Is it just me or do the video's seem a bit quicker/more fluid to display now? Really liking this Stu
  5. Done a bit more experimenting last night and I'm no further forward... it seems if I delete dkong.hi then play it again mame creates it ok but it never updates the file so I only ever get 1 high score recorded. I tried recompiling and even tried going back to a 125 exe that I had sitting on my drive and it does the same. Stu
  6. Nice one Tom, just installed Vista Codec Pack 5.0.4 and everything is working like a charm Thanks Tom and headkaze Stu
  7. I can't remember what version this appeared in it was about 3 updates ago, it uses the program posted a BYOAC but there wasn't anything fancy to do GameEx download the exe in the update and the option just appears when you go into the game info screen of a supported game, so if I go into Donkey Kong, I have the following options Play This Game Title Manual High Score If I select High Score then GameEx changes to a new screen showing the high scores Not all games are supported though so don't expect to see it for every game, actually don't expect to see it in many games at all, you'll need to check BYOAC for a list of supported games. Stu
  8. Oh I didn't realise there was a buggy patch for 128 sounds like I need to compile again, didn't get a chance to try anything last night but I'll give it a blast tonight Stu
  9. When I run HiToText manually I get the same score that GameEx is displaying so the problem isn't with GameEx. Just need to work out why my Mame isn't updating the dkong.hi file, I compiled it using your compiler and I applied the hi scores patch. After work I'll try deleting the dkong.hi and see if it tries to create it again or recompiling again Stu
  10. Thanks for the black menu bar idea fRequEnCy I hadn't noticed this with nestopia until clair mentioned it, spent ages last night trying to right a script for nestopia before realising it doesn't matter how you exit, it'll all ways briefly show the menu. Black menu on my black desktop works like a charm though Stu
  11. I'm just wondering how or when the high score that GameEx is reading is supposed to be updated? My Donkey High score is still showing the same scores as it did the first time I ran it even though if I play the game it's showing different scores. Do I have to force it to refresh somehow? Stu
  12. I can't seem to get the directx karaoke plugin to work, I know this isn't a GameEx problem as I've tested it on my other system and it works fine. I've tried playing the files in media player and it just tells me it's not a supported format I'm running Vistax64 but my other system is running that too and it has no problems I've tried removing and reinstalling manually installing the plugin but still no joy The first karaoke file I tried to play in GameEx worked but then after that no other files have worked Anyone any ideas where I can start? Stu
  13. I use SSF myself, not really into my saturn emulation but pretty much everything I've tried works, think the system specs are a lot higher than Yabause though Stu

Thought I'd spend some time trying to get to the bottom of this tonight but I'm beat I've tried changing just about every setting I can find but they all end in the same result of GameEx freezing, all I've managed to work out is that GameEx doesn't actually freeze until it tries to turn the video display off e.g on the main screen I scroll down to last played option and I'll hear the video and see a black box if I then press right on my stick I can cycle through the the items in the top menu it's only once I select an option like 'Play random game' that doesn't have a video that GameEx freezes. Not that any of that's any use I'm really not sure what else to try but if you can think of anything I don't mind flicking back and forth between the codecs to test it for you. I've def all other codecs removed from add remove programs. I've tried libavodec and xvid and just about every combination in the xvid settings and I've messed about with a few settings in ffdshow decoder section but all to no avail. Stu
  15. really liking the highscore support, thanks Tom Is it normal to lose all your high scores after updating to each new version of MAME? I had managed my best ever Donkey Kong score of 59000 odd and then after switching to the latest MAME it's back to defaults Will this new high score support in GameEx help keep the old scores after changing? Stu

I'm also using xvids, I can hear the sound just no picture Stu

Not have any luck with the Vista Codec Pack HK, those 2 settings where already set on mine when I installed it but it just locks up GameEx when it tries to play a video I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 Also tried installing the x64 Components on the Vista Codec Pack site Stu
  18. I had this problemrecently when writing a piece of software at work It happens because & is a reserved word and needs to be enclosed in [ brackets e.g. A[&]F instead of A&F If Tom can't sort this then maybe headkaze could replace &'s with [&] on the fly when reading the data or writing it out to the mdb? There's a full list of reserved words here and a list of symbols here I'm recovering from a hard drive failure so once I get my arcade up and going again I'll get tucked into some of these Stu
  19. The option is there because it was on the original 6 button pad but you'll not need so don't worry about it Stu
  20. 3 MDB's for each system would be a complete mess to look after but I know I suggested extra columns the last time we were working on the MDB's and he wasn't keen on doing anything with the current system then either, heh what can you do, I guess we just have to make the most of what we're given. Stu
  21. I noticed that if I deleted the emulator cache, then turned off 'change sort order for games starting with the', then let GameEx rebuild the cache and finally turn 'change sort order for games starting with the' back on again I now still have have all the info displayed for games starting with 'the' It's not a proper solution but I feel it shows that this is definitely a bug that Tom should address Stu
  22. I noted a couple of things like this in my Movie Collectorz thread, there are definitely a few bugs in GameEx when it comes to reading the info from the MDBs. I had also noted that it didn't like .'s in the game names, this may also include other special characters like ! but I never checked Something I noticed about extra .'s is that when you select a game it still tells you the publisher and genre but then when you bring up the game info screen it doesn't display the description. Stu
  23. Because this has to be set up in the emulator section, when using GameEx's search feature it now returns results for films as well as games, it would be nice to be able to have a separate search for films. I'm thinking there's a few ways to do this: One would be that each emulator section has an option that says this is to be included in the games, media or jukebox search, this would always default to games but it would mean you have the option to change it and it would also mean that people that have KaraFun setup as an emulator could then have it searchable by the jukebox search The other way would be under the MultiMedia/HTPC section have a couple of emulator slots so custom media software could be setup, the big advantage here would be that it would then appear under the Multimedia section rather than Emulated Games Or add database support with snap shots support to the DVD On Disk feature that currently exists Some more fields in the standard MDBs wouldn't go a miss either, is there anyway you could support all columns in an MDB? Just read the columns header and add a view by whatever the header is option where you currently have the Name, Year, Category... that way all future ideas are catered for you could insist on have a FileName header that must be in every MDB but everything else is optional Stu
  24. I haven't tried it myself but there's an option in Movie Collector to add a file to each movie so if you linked the trailer to the movie in you database I'm sure I could extract it from the XML file and save it to a separate folder just like I do with the covers Stu
  25. That's not so good, I have 3 copies of my database on different computers Having everything catalogued is great in the long run but it's a real pain adding everything, some of the results their search returns are just nuts, when I first found Collectorz I already had 1000 DVDs took me 2 weeks of working at it to sort through all the results Stu
