  1. This is probably old news to some people. I went to grab some controller images last night from xpadder.com and was surprised to see that the site is gone. There is a link to a download of the final project and a link to the forums, but the project appears dead. I don't know how long the files will remain hosted, so I thought I would mention it so those that haven't grabbed the final release will not miss out (like happened with many people when WinGun closed doors).
  2. I wasn't sure if Tom was against having any feature like this available in GameEx or if it was primarily focused on being available for MAME. I know the stance for MAME...
  3. Check out Instant Sheller. It will hide XP real nice!
  4. Credits are used to make an machine into something you can use in an arcade. I don't know what Tom's stance is on paid arcades using GameEx, so I'm not sure if that can be answered here. I know there was a thread a while back where a solution was developed, but since the MAME Devs don't like this activity, the thread was removed.

    EMS Lightgun 2

Yup, I was trying to compile 0.104 but since there's no diff files, I ended up manually editing the source. The cross hair thing is pretty tough isn't it?

    rar support

Did you miss my post? I just gave you a way to have RAR support in GameEx. If you want Tom to build in RAR support so you don't have to type in 2 lines of code, I suspect that will take a while. Also, it would have to be in the features request thread for it to be considered.
  7. There's also a set of artwork Tom released recently that was for alternate GameEx logos that were considered. I think it's located on the main GameEx.com page under "other downloads" if I'm not mistaken. It should be called something like alternate artwork. These are not icons, but they could be either converted to icons. As I recall though, Windows can use a .bmp file directly, so you may not even need to convert it.
  8. I was just asking about the emu because there are some that have escape mapped to quit. If that's not the case, then we can look elsewhere. I think Brian and/or frequency were able to help on the last thread where this was a problem, so you should be in good hands!
  9. The controls could always have a gasket material between them and the panel. That way liquid shouldn't seep down into the panel. And if this were a major concern, you could always put the electronics in like they do with cable TV...use a drip loop. Make sure the encoder and other components aren't directly below the holes and then just use a loop to keep the liquid away (liquid doesn't go up hill too well).
  10. My first suggestion would have been upgrading to the current version of GameEx, but if Tempest is already there, then that won't likely help. I think this is something that Tom will probably need to check into.

    EMS Lightgun 2

Simple...Use the Compiler HK built and compile a custom build of MAME using the hiscore patch listed in the thread. That patch does 3 main things: 1) Adds the hi score saving capability back into MAME that was removed a couple years ago. 2) Removes the nag screens that are displayed at the beginning of a game requiring you to press 'OK' to remove. 3) Turns cross hairs off by default. You can always turn them back on with F1.
  12. Just a final note on the Gun stuff. I compiled 0.117 with the hiscore patch and it works fine with WinGun and Guncon2pc with dual lightguns. I think this is the last version that will work with WinGun due to the way the RAW input system (incorporated in 0.117u1) works. It will recognize the gun position, but it will not accept the trigger buttons.
  13. The solution is pretty simple really. The screen isn't too far away, it's just far too small. I think a 60" would work much better. Also, I think the controls are recessed under the bar, so it would be more challenging to spill on the CP. I know some people that could find a way though, so recessed is really no guarantee!
  14. That was a trouble shooting step. It sounds like there's a problem with the game info bar on whatever version of MAME and GameEx you are using. Can you post the version of both so that Tom can figure out the problem?

    rar support

I agree with flash on this especially for more modern systems. For older systems the roms are much smaller so it doesn't take much time to extract. On the other hand, there's also not much savings in using rar on small files, so what's the point. Either way, I believe you can just use a launch before and launch after command to do what you are attempting. Launch Before = unrar.exe [RomPath]\[RomFile] C:\temp\. {switches} Command = <emulator.exe> {switches} C:\temp\[Rom].<extension> Launch After = delete c:\temp\* /F /Q I doubt this is exactly right. I'm just going by memory and a bit of guessing. You will probably need to tweak things to get it to work for you.
  16. Try disabling the screen saver info bar.
  17. My wife agrees. She says I could build one....if we had space for a wet bar (which I've been wanting but have no space for).
  18. What emulator? Are you sure escape isn't mapped to quit in that emu? There was another thread about escape problems last week or so, but I don't remember what the resolution was there. You might take a look for it, it's probably only 1-2 pages back in the forum.
  19. Damn Japanese games! Who plays those anyway <turns to look at Dreamcast collection> Oh, never mind
  20. The B's? Wow, you haven't made progress until you reach S! Nintendo really likes using "Super", so that's around half the games!
  21. Hmmm, I can get the guns to track in MAME (which didn't work last time I tried the WinGun drivers), but I can't get the trigger to respond. The screen flashes (as it should), but no bullet hits can be seen. I'm starting to think this is actually a 117 issue where the new control system doesn't like the driver remapping the buttons or something. I'm not quite sure. It detects the button press in MAME when I'm setting things up, but it doesn't accept the location when I'm trying to test it out. Weird. I guess this isn't a MAME Compiler question any more, so perhaps I should open a new topic if I decide to continue discussing this here. Thanks for the suggestions HK!
  22. Well, that thread is intended to help give new users the first steps to try. These are the same steps we typically will post first as suggestions, so it just saves a little typing and some of your time in getting things fixed (because we aren't ALWAYS online). The runit.bat file that you posted shows the command to launch GameEx Config. As frequency said, you need to post the contents of runitgame.bat. Also, it's only useful if you run the problem game immediately prior to posting the contents. This file contains the exact commands that GameEx uses to launch the game. If that set of commands is malformed, then it won't run correctly.

    rar support

If rar support isn't available, you could always use a wrapper or launch before command to extract the file first. It's not as elegant, but it should work.
  24. Welcome to the GameEx forum! First things first. Read the following thread and see if you can fix it. This is probably a simple fix that will be obvious if you go through these steps. If you still can't get it resolved, come back here and post the suggested files. Also, please let us know if that thread is helpful and/or if it could use improvements in any way. Thanks! Thread NOTE: This thread was supposed to be made into a sticky, but apparently that hasn't happened yet.
  25. That's one of the first things I did. I grabbed the 0.108 hiscore diff file and checked what it was changing. I looked at the source and realized that somewhere between 0.104 and 0.108 there was a somewhat significant change in how things were coded in this region of the code. In the end, all I really care about is having no nag screens and turning off the cross hairs, so I manually edited the code. It appears that the nag screens will not show after the first time you run MAME and if I use -nogame_info I'll be good to go. I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet, but it did compile last night. Oh, in case Tempest is viewing this (or anyone else who wants to use the WinGun driver), the reason you can't use anything beyond 0.104u6 is that in the u7 release this was added: Updated raw mouse support for Windows XP: [Derrick Renaud] * Reversed the RAWMOUSE device list. RAWMOUSE reports the last installed mouse as the first device. I now place new mice at the end. * Added clipping to RAWMOUSE support so the cursor does not leave the game area in Windowed mode. Also fixed the non-RAWMOUSE Windowed mode clipping I broke by my last changes. * You can now see the names of the mice attached by using -verbose. * Changed Lightgun functionality if using XP. You no longer need to use -lightgun or -dual_lightgun. Use -mouse and multiple (2+) "HID-compliant mouse" lightguns will be detected. Lightgun support in Win98/Me remains unchanged. -offscreen_reload can still be used on Win98/Me/XP. See windows.txt for further info. The important bit for WinGun users is the 4th bullet. Guncon2pc uses a HID-compliant mouse for each gun. WinGun doesn't AFAIK.
