  1. You can reorder the emulators, but you cannot reorder anything else currently.

I just noticed that this script will only accept keyboard input for defining the controls for remapping. Since I use a game pad encoder, I'll have to add some code to either hard code the correct controls or create an input file to do it. It's no biggie, just thought I would let you know. It looks like this is a good framework and it will be a REALLY easy thing to do!

Nice! I'm playing with this now. Hoping to get somewhere before I get sidetracked again

Cool beans! Yeah, I'd love to take a look at them. I guess that means I'll have to d/l your script too so I can actually use the files?

They are only useful once you get them working in the script! I've had plenty of projects that had components that took a lot of time but ended up set aside. Anyway, good stuff!!!

Ok, that's what I was wondering...what exactly are these files going to look like. They will be a HUGE set of useless cfg's So then your source will basically have a mapping of what you want to use for each button for a set of games and it will modify the config and save it to an output folder, correct? That sounds really useful!

Can you post a sample so I can see what you are talking about. Say for instance sf.cfg? I'm just wondering how I will change them to what I need (still haven't had time to look at the guts of the script )
  9. Good to know. I didn't realize it was built in! I figured you would have to use a run statement, but this is better.
  10. I usually prefer XVID or DIVX when I'm d/l'ing stuff myself. How much space do you save by doing the conversion? I know that you end up cutting a bunch of stuff out, but even with that included, do you go from say 5GB down to like 1GB? I'm wondering how much time it takes versus the amount of HDD space saved. At some point, it's probably worth it just to buy a 1.5TB HDD and be done with it. Those things only cost ~$100-$150 USD these days. If it takes hours per movie to convert and you cut the movie in half, you are probably money ahead just dumping the DVD contents to a big drive and moving on. Well, that's assuming there is manual input required for the entire process. If it's possible to batch the process, then it doesn't matter really.
  11. XPadder will highlight the button when you press it so you know what you are pressing. Just make sure that button is set to send the correct button. I can confirm that XPadder works just fine with GameEx.

    640x480 Themes

    Just a little jab.
  13. To shutdown, use the following command line in your AHK script: shutdown.exe /s /f
  14. I know that you were giving constructive criticism to help everyone based on your experience. Hopefully Games001 will take it that way rather than as an attack on his design. On the other hand, if Games001 had some nice CP graphics that are designed to bring all of those controls together, it might not look so cluttered. One note on dedicated 4-way joysticks that I wanted to throw out there. In the past, it was fairly common for people to put a single 4-way joystick on the CP so that they could play games like pacman and donkey kong with the accuracy and authenticity that they deserve. The reason for this is that the 8-way joysticks at the time (and even today really) play like crap compared to a hardware restricted model. BUT...there are many joysticks that have been developed that can be switched from 8-way to a 4-way with hardware restrictor plates as well as plates that can be top mounted that convert 8-way sticks to 4-way. If I were designing a CP today, I would not even consider using a dedicated 4-way like this. I would just get 1 or maybe 2 of the switchable ones. If you want to see some really sweet models, go to Ultimarc.com and look at the Mag-Stick. It's mountable on any CP and can be switched from 4- to 8-way without having to access the bottom of the CP or having any visible lever on the top. That's the way to go IMO!!!
  15. DVDShrink does just what it says...it shrinks the DVD to fit into a smaller format. This is usually used to take a DVD9 movie and make it fit onto a standard burnable disc (4.7GB). The only way to do that is to either cut out extra content (extra audio tracks, features, etc.) or to reduce the quality of the video while re-encoding. If you are trying to keep the original quality (100% quality you mentioned), you would need to be careful about what options you specify with DVDShrink.
  16. Did you ever finish the AVI? I'm starting to think about adding an intro video and I'm liking what you did!

    Exiting GAMEEX

If you don't have a dedicated button to exit, you can always tell MAME to use a combination of buttons. Enter a game in MAME and hit TAB. Go to the general controls menu (top menu) and enter the User interface menu (top menu). Scroll down to UI Cancel. Hit your select button. Now, if you want to map a combination of buttons press them together for a second and release. MAME should say something like "1 2" if you pressed keyboard buttons 1 and 2. Good to go!

    640x480 Themes

There's no reason to have a special theme for 640x480. Any larger theme can be scaled down automatically by GameEx. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean it will display well due to text placement, etc. I think there were just 3 or 4 themes created in the last 2 months and one more coming (I assume Flash will finish his awesome looking theme some day ).
  19. Like Tempest said, there was a change to the Neo Geo BIOS for some reason. As a result, MAME stopped working with roms from older sets. I didn't do a lot of research into this, but as I understand it had to do with a single file being added/moved to the BIOS. If you want to know more, check out the MAMEDevs or MAMETesters websites. I know there was at least one topic posted on the latter.
  20. FYI: Don't post the link to the thread if it is from a site that contains roms....
  21. I searched all over the place to find that file and the way back machine was the only place I found it. I didn't post the link in October only because I was afraid someone would see it and request the file be removed. Course if noone knew it was there it doesn't help anybody anyway, so... Btw, does anyone have their guncons working with the WinGun driver AND have Logitech Rumblepads installed and working? I had my guns working great and then I installed my gamepads. Now I can't get MAME to recognize the guns. I'm going to try reinstalling the WinGun stuff today. I looked and it seems like Logitech added a bunch of crap to the HID section so I'm not sure if that's screwed anything up.
  22. Oh, I thought I should add one more thing. If you want to keep the number of buttons on your CP down, you can add a micro switch to your coin door coin reject button for each player. Also, if you want to eliminate the Player Start buttons you can map them to button 1 for each player. Some games use this button instead of a dedicated start button anyway, so it can be intuitive. I did both of these on my Championship Sprint cabinet (which only had 1 button per player on the CP) and it works really well.
  23. If there isn't a config already in there, when you get yours set up correctly you can submit it to the stickied thread. Then others can have access to it when Tom adds it to the install.
  24. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that has been allowed to live on an 'Ivory Tower' around here.
  25. Oh, I see how it is. Tom will tell you and I have to wait to hear 3rd hand? I didn't realize I was getting grouped with Tempest these days
