Just a question for you HK. I just noticed that you can actually build the CP image directly in the CPWizard now by adding buttons etc. I was curious if you were planning on having future versions linked to the button color data so that for people with LED's that change the button color for each game, the CPWizard would show the correct CP? Seems like a cool idea, so I'm guessing that's one reason why you added that capability and thus are WAY ahead of me.

1) Yes, but it requires an AHK/AI script to remap your controls for P2 to P1 (if you have a keyboard emulator) OR via XPadder to send the same keys for both P1 and P2 (if you have a gamepad emulator). The first one is really easy, ask if you have problems. The second is pretty much self explanatory, just install XPadder and set it up. 2) The short answer is no. The long answer is yes with a script I wrote. I don't have it in front of me, but it's in one of the threads here that I started. I think there's a current version in there. Search for "Mouse2Key" as I recall. EDIT: I guess I never linked the file correctly to that thread I was mentioning. Here's the script. I think it's current, but let me know if it doesn't work as I did mess with it recently. I don't think anything I did to it needs to be included though. Mouse2Key__GameEx_.zip

Run the configuration wizard and search for theme. There is a drop down where you can pick whatever themes you have installed.

I think you only need ffdshow if you are planning on running videos. I don't think it would affect the karaoke setup since there is a karaoke plugin/codec specifically for that. But, I've never run karaoke, so I don't know.
-
I've noticed that about the paths too. I understand that that should verify that the path is correct, but there are other ways. Also, I think the root for when you press "..." on the paths should be the directory containing the current file. Just my opinion though.
-
GameEx needs DirectX 9, dotNET framework 2, and ffdshow (for some features), but I don't think it will load if you don't have the first 2 installed. The karaoke feature requires a special package for DirectX (it's linked during setup, so you can just install it at that time). I don't think there's anything else that's required and out of the ordinary.

Ok, then what I suggested could work fine. It depends on if you want the sounds to work when the machine is off. If so, then you would need an mp3 player. If not, then a computer could be used. Just a side note though. The coin door should come with a catch basin which is metal. So you will hear the coin fall in anyway. Maybe you should try it and see if it provides the sound you want as is... EDIT: On second look, this is just the coin door and doesn't include the box. I haven't looked, but you might be able to find one that includes the box as well and you wouldn't need to worry about the sounds.
-
I'm confused Do you want the coin door to work as a credit mechanism or just as a piggy bank? And you want to be able to do something so a sound fires that sounds like a coin dropping? As far as the sound goes, I would look into either getting a cheap mp3 player and putting a few tracks on that sound like a coin dropping (a few different types for variety). Then, link the coin switch to the button on the mp3 player that plays a sound (you will have to hack the mp3 player to do that. This will only work if you can get an external power adapter for the mp3 player AND you can set it up so that if you hit play, it plays one random track and then stops. ALTERNATELY, you could wire up the coin switches to an input on your encoder/gamepad hack/etc. Then, set an AHK/AI script to play the sound file when that button is pressed. In fact, you could probably set it up that way so that if several coins entered before the file finished playing, it would play it overlapping. Damn...one more set of ramblings for the record.

Usually people mount images with a wrapper, so you would be blazing new trails (probably unsupported at this point). It's worth the question though!

Interesting... I've never heard of USB headphones. USB speakers (with integrated sound card) yes, but not headphones. I have the same question/comment as Adultery...do you have a sound card installed or is the one in the headphones the only one? Perhaps the codec freaks out when it can't initialize the sound component...

You need to provide the complete log file so that someone can interpret the actual error. Btw, do you have a license? Playing DVD's from the HDD is a registered only feature (playing from a DVD is not though).

I suspect it's because you have a broken rom. When GameEx creates the list, it uses the verify roms function of MAME to make sure it's valid. I'm guessing that the rom it stops on is broken bad enough that it breaks the function and doesn't finish creating the list. I recall someone having a similar problem 6-12 months ago and I think the resolution was getting a new rom set. I don't think you have to go that route, just run clrMAME or one of the other check programs to make sure your set is good.

alt+alt+arrow? Did you mean ctl+alt+arrow?
-
Also check out GameLauncher mode (a simplified input mode perfect for cabs that have only 2 buttons). For fast scrolling, use the alpha paging button. Hold it down and press up and down it goes down a full page, hold it and press right or left and it goes to the next letter of the alphabet.

Cool! I'll give this a try over the weekend.

Yes, but I don't know how. It's been covered in the past, so perhaps a search of the forum might help. Wait a minute, you said external apps... I know it works for emulators, but I'm not positive about external apps.

I suspect that Only working is the problem. If the game is listed as imperfect, that means it works according to the MAMEdevs. If it's listed as not working, that's a different matter. Try turning Only Working to All Games (or whatever the alternative is). Also, if you don't want to show other broken games, but you still want that one, I suggest adding it to the excluded filter list. Just add the rom name to the list. EDIT: I just did a quick search of MAWS and it shows that ALL versions of galaga (other than Galaga88) are listed as imperfect. Add it to the excluded filter list and happy gaming.

If you are running WinXP (it may work in other versions, but I've never tried it), you can press ctl+alt+<arrow key>. If you press down, it will flip upside down. If you press up, it will go back to normal. These buttons are absolute, not relative (meaning no matter what orientation the display is in, it will go to normal if you hit ctl+alt+up). Be careful with left and right as it will screw up the icons on your desktop. I suspect you could write a script to do this, and then map it to a CP button or something. Another option is using the tab button, but that would rotate through. I would think a single button on either side of your cab would be best and have it mapped to the appropriate combination. Alternately, if you just want this to work in MAME, there are options for each rom that allow you to set how you want the screen to display. So for games that were either upright or cocktails, they can be set to the appropriate mode. In MAME, hit tab, then select video options. You can try different ones to see what you like. This is set on a per rom basis, so it will need to be done for all applicable roms.

I thought it was C# and VB.NET, but I could be wrong.

Sounds like it doesn't recognize the gun. Also, make sure you are using a TV that the gun says it works with (50/60 Hz and not 100Hz CRT).

I couldn't find the FAQ, so I just put up the Instant Sheller link. I guess I was looking in the tutorial section though...

Use instantsheller. Here's a link to the tutorial and files: link

Well, in order to do the first one, if GameEx doesn't have a stretch setting, you will have to reencode the video to your desired resolution. There are a bunch of tools that can do it for you and since I haven't done that in a while, I will not recommend one (my choice would be years old and people would laugh at me ). I don't think there is any way to do the second part inside GameEx. My suggestion would be to either accept that you will have to use the arrows/joystick and a button, or write a script in AHK/AI to send the keys to do it, or use xpadder to have a macro to do it, or write a plugin for GameEx, or add a feature request. I don't see this being high on Tom's priority list, so you would probably have to write something yourself (with the help of the community). The best option would be a plugin, but that requires knowing a bit of coding and having a compiler. The next best would probably be using xpadder since it's easy and should work nice for you. Writing an AHK/AI script would work, but it requires knowledge of those languages. Anyway, that's how I see it. Perhaps someone else can suggest another option that would be easier.
-
Well, guncon's are designed for the Playstation, so you aren't exactly using it for its intended purpose. Thus, it won't work exactly how you want. You will more than likely need to use an extension cable to connect the gun to the tv and maybe even a usb extension cable to the computer. If you have 2 guns, they should be able to be daisy chained, so that saves one cable.

Like I said before, if you use the configuration wizard, you can enter search terms such as "weather" and it will pop up the correct page that contains the settings. As I recall, they are located in web aps or something. And yes, you can turn everything off so it just displays a background image if that's what you want I don't know about Game Launcher mode, but in the standard mode, you can definitely have videos in a box rather than in the whole background. I can't remember where that setting is though. I think it's in display settings, but I could be wrong.
