  1. Yes, if you have the correct datfile for the rom set version, it will match up perfectly. BUT, if you don't know what version you have, you would be guessing and checking. With 122 full versions and many 'u' builds, you would have to check quite a few times to get the exact build (unless you knew when you downloaded it).
  2. Glad you got it going!
  3. I think you need quotes on your rompath: RomPath="D:\Games\Sega Saturn" You definitely need quotes around the path for launchbefore and launchafter: LaunchBefore="C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe" -mount 0,"[RomPath]\[RomFile]" LaunchAfter="C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe" -unmount 0
  4. 3) Change your mouse icon to one that's not going to be seen. For example, there's one that comes with the instant sheller app that is just a single black dot. You won't notice it if it does show up. 4) I don't know an easy way to figure out what version of the rom set you have. I personally would just go to one of the locations that roms are available and resync your rom set (assuming it's torrentzipped). I can't go into any more detail without taking a chance of violating the rules here, so I'll just leave the rest for you (it shouldn't be too complicated if you've gotten this far )

I didn't realize you were planning on hooking this up to a PC monitor, I thought you were looking at a CRT TV (either RCA or SVideo connection). I've heard that those schematics work (I've seen them before), but as I use a TV, I haven't tried them. Unless you are good with building circuits (or want to be), you might consider seeing if anyone sells these first AND find out if 2 guns can work with a single circuit. It would kinda suck having to build 2 of them. If I were using a PC monitor, I might consider the LCD Topguns since you don't have to debug the circuit after you build it and it don't work
  6. I seriously doubt that the video memory is the problem. MAME doesn't require much video memory since it's primarily rendered in software. As long as you can run directx, you should be fine. For the more demanding games, you would be much better suited looking at your CPU first and system memory second. I didn't realize that you had things working the way you want on any machine. Knowing that, I would consider copying the MAME.ini file from the working machine to the non-working one (making a backup of the original. In fact, it would be best if you copied all files in your MAME directory to the other machine, but that could be a LOT of data. If you have the same installed version of MAME and the same MAME.ini file, you should get things going if you use the same command line.
  7. Just a thought, but when I had an error that was pointing to GameEx as the issue and Tom was not able to recreate it, it was a script running in the background that seemed completely unrelated. If you have anything else running on the system at the time (even if it doesn't seem like it's related), try turning it off/killing the process and going through your steps that typically cause the error. It doesn't sound like that's the problem here, but it's worth a shot. Good luck!
  8. If you don't like how things appear in GameEx, you can always build a map file. So you could have "mk.bat" and with the map file GameEx would display it as "Mortal Kombat".
  9. I would highly recommend trying the official build of MAME to get things set up and then switching to FX after you get everything working. If you do it that way, you can eliminate any problems caused by your build first. After you get the vanilla version working, we can see about switching to your build of choice. Also, are you using the same version of MAME as your roms? I see that you are using version 0.120 of MAME FX. Are your roms also 0.120? If you try the vanilla build, try to get that same version, or consider updating to the new version which would be easier to get a hold of.
  10. I can't think of too many times where launching a program at startup wouldn't be better setting it up as the shell, but that is a very extensive set of directions on how to do it the other way. Thanks.

    Mame list issue

You shouldn't have to, but that's the only setting I know of that controls bracketed text. Maybe someone else has another thought.
  12. SWEEEEEET!!! I configured my CP on one computer and then moved it to the other assuming it would look good at a given resolution....it didn't. Now I just need to resize the image and move EVERYTHING at once (I was dreading getting everything lined up again Thanks for the update!

    2) GunCon2 light guns can be hooked up to the PC really easily IF they have a USB connection on them (some do, some don't) AND they don't require extra power. My guns came with a USB port (which was a requirement when I was looking) but they also had a laser feature I thought I would be using (I don't) that makes the gun require power. The problem is that it gets power from the Playstation plug. So, I built a circuit to convert 12v power from the PC to 9 volt (as I recall) that the gun needs and hacked a pair of PS2 extension cables. My suggestion is using Namco models that have USB and no need for power if you want to go the GunCon2 route.
  14. Upper left would be wrong resolution (or centered and small). Upper right is weird since I don't think Windows ever does that. I guess the only thing I can suggest is checking out the log file (post it here if you want someone to review it). Perhaps it will say what GameEx is doing.
  15. Glad to hear you got it working! Have fun

    Karaoke

I don't use karaoke, so I can't really help. However, why do you think it's a lost cause? There are many, MANY people here who have successfully gotten it to work. My first suggestion (after searching the forum since there were just 1 or 2 similar threads in the last 2 weeks), would be checking to make sure you have the karaoke codec installed. Go to the Configuration Wizard and go to the karaoke section (you can go directly there by selecting 'custom' and selecting karaoke settings) and check to see if it has a link for installing the codec. If it does, you don't have it installed.
  19. You can disable things in GameEx only in that the command line can be edited. But, I personally edit my MAME settings in the MAME.ini file and keep my command line for MAME in GameEx pretty bare. That way I know where things need to be changed rather than having to go between 2 or 3 places. If you are asking which is better to use ROMS or CHDS, the answer is that you don't have a choice. In the case of games that have disk images (originally compressed hard disks but now compressed hunks of data), you need both the rom (the stuff stored on the chips on the game board(s) and the CHD file. In order to play a game with a CHD, you simply put the file in a directory of the same name inside your MAME roms directory. As for the game list problem (listing version numbers as well as categories), this is an artifact of the catver.ini file. I'm guessing the problem is 1 of 2 possibilities. 1) You have your catver.ini file in the same location as your custom MAME32 lists so it's reading that file as well as your other lists. 2) Your catver.ini file is malformed and so GameEx is having a problem reading it correctly. For example, maybe your catver.ini is in MAME32 format. I think GameEx requires it to be in the old MAME format. Let us know how things work out.
  20. I guess I figured that would be the first thing to try Anyway, glad you got it going!

    Mame list issue

I thought from his first post that vquzz had that option enabled, but now that I read it again, I'm not sure. I have that setting enabled and have no bracketed text.
  22. First things first...are you a registered GameEx user? Playing DVD's from the hard drive is a registered user feature, so if not, you will have to take care of that before you can play any DVD's from your hard drive. I don't know what format GameEx uses, so I can't help there. I think it just uses built in codecs for DVD playback, so I would assume you have to have the Video_TX and Audio_TS directories. Alternately, you could use a program (Daemon Tools, Alcohol, etc.) to mount the ISO image first if you don't want to convert formats and ISO is not supported.
  23. As long as MAME detects it, you should be able to use it. I guess you are saying MAME doesn't detect all the commands from the remote?
  24. Yup, that's part of the problem. You have an older version of MAME32 (v0.109) and new rom and chd sets (v0.122). When I say vanilla, I just mean the official build of MAME that the MAMEdevs release. You should be running MAME 0.122 or MAMEgui (formerly MAME32) 0.122. As for the artwork, it depends on what you want to do how you set it up. If you never want to have bezels displayed, you can either delete the artwork directory (or the path in MAME.ini) or you can set either each game to not use artwork, or disable them in MAME.ini. I personally would disable them rather than deleting them, but that's just me.
