  1. Let me refphrase that then, too much work, and it would have implications on performance. No, that's not what needs to be done, and it has nothing to do with language, more the way it's written. It would also be impossible to code GameEx in Access. It also does not use any formal database but something I have custom developed, this would make the application far too slow otherwise.
  2. PS. I realise it's not what your asking, but it's the best I am offering
  3. I was referring to this, specifically the last sentence: Q: The Game list won't update, or does not update correctly. For example, I see no categories or years. A: This maybe because you are using an old version of MAME or a derivative build such as MAME Plus. GameEx has only been tested with the newer versions of the official Windows MAME, MAME32 and AdvanceMAME. Get the latest official version of Windows MAME or MAME32. Once the Games list has updated correctly, you can probably swap over to your derivative or older build.
  4. Hi, See the FAQ about updating the list with a newish version then switching over.
  5. Hi Franckle, I just wanted to say, I hope you don't mind, but you would probably get much more support and interest in your submissions from all users including French, if you did not watermark the images. Thanks, Tom
  6. You should be able to select ANY font installed on your system. Do you have more than 5 fonts installed? It's not my 'choices' it's whats installed on your system. Or at least it should be.
  7. You can also use videos for the logos. On my system, when I select Laserdisc games i get an animated video from Dragon's lair show. It also plays a small MAME movie when I select all MAME games. It's certainly cool. Look on the home page news for more info. Save this dragon's lair movie as daphne.mpg in the logos directory: http://www.lottery.ca/DigitalLeisure/DLintro.mpg
  8. Hi, This has come up before. I don't plan on doing such a thing for the moment. The ohter alterantive, is add the games that you do like as favorites.
  9. Hi, Sorry the answer is no just for the moment. I would like us all to work and live together as one community. In addition I would not be able to moderate it as I don't know French. If GameEx gets a 'LOT' bigger I'll look at it again. If you have an update to your language translation, please share so other French users can beneift.
  10. David, Can you cut and paste a new reply about your cabinet. I just wanted to clean up the topic a bit before pinning it, so had to cut and paste your post as a reply. Repost it under your user and I'll delete the reply I did. Thanks, Tom
  11. Look out for the 'Best' Clones and 'Originals only' features in the next release. [They will both be turned off by default, and the Originals only list will be exactly that, with no 'best' game feature. To have the 'best' game you will need to update the list with noclones. not 100% as you asked for, but hopefully yourll be satuated ] I don't see anyway I can do hacks. As far as I can see there is no way to differentiate these from clones. Although I do like your other ideas and will be implementing them shortly. Thanks, Tom
  12. Yes, I think I can do similar logic fairly easily, as I already store whether each game is working and working perfectly. Just need to make sure it does not make the update process much longer. It's long enough as it is.
  13. I have to go with ToonCes that I did not think this was possible. It's certainly a feature I would like too. If anyone has any more info on how to do this, please share. From what I hear MinWah is off sunning himself in Australia, and to be honest I am not really in contact with him anyway.
  14. I just wanted to say: I am really happy about how well the new forum is working out. Deffinitly worth the $$$ in my opinion. It's been live less than a week, and we've had tons of great posts, people signup and visit. Thank you all for contributing MUCH more than before. I just hope I don't blow away my bandwidth, I did not expect nearly so much success!
  15. Yes, I think JoyToKey is your answer. I have a direct download on the GameEx site. I think its in the FAQ section. I don't use it but others have reported positive results.
  16. I am improving on GameEx whenever I have time, so in the future I think it probably will have complete skinning, but this is no simple task and is a while off, if it happens at all. There is no tutorial for theme.ini, but it uses exactly the same commands as GameEx.ini. You can use ALL commands. It acts as an overide if the commands are present, if not it uses GameEx.ini for the settings. If you open up gameex.ini in notepad, you will see that it is incredibly well documentated, so you should be good to go I understand about not being artist, I am not either, although can be pretty handy with imaging software. It may be enough for you though just to replace the background images with stuff you have found on the net. If its just a general wallpaper type background, you should not have to worry about resolutions at all. Hope this helps, and if you doa anything cool, please share.

    Atari Jaguar

To exit, try setting MAP keys to true. That should do it.
  18. There will be a seperate favorites sections for emulators and MAME I am afraid, its too complicated to combine them. I am glad the batch settings were useful, I'll think I'll add that to the FAQ. I am aware of the snap resizing. Thanks, Tom
  19. The Theme uses smaller text because it uses Arcade Mode, or is at different resolution. Could you explain why you think being able to change the test size is needed please? Thanks. Tom
  20. 4th March 2005 - Version 3.42 of GameEx available When GameEx is windowed it will no longer be on top of all other windows when it does not have the focus. Added new setting to change the font used for titles (top of screen). Loading screen is no longer hard coded and available as a PNG file for themes.
  21. You can add them to the MAME options in GameEx, so that ther'll be consistent with MAME, MAME32, and if you update your mame directories. Look the MAME 32 help file, under MAME Documents, Usage and Configuration for the required settings.: Basically to improve you need to do some or all of the following. Turn off the resampling, lower the sample rate, and adjust the latency to a higher value.
  22. Yourll probably get performance issues when the connection is open, but when not in use, the MAME tweaks I suggested should do it. As I said more that VNC is using your CPU and system utilisation in general I think rather than a conflict.
  23. Probably was not VNC exatcly, probably more utilisation in general. Try again and look at the MAME sound setting if it happens again. Especially Audio Latency, Resample, and Sample rate. I get these problems, even without VNC, on my MCE pc.
  24. A script would be the best solution for automic downloading. Its obviously something I would not make available (even though I could develop it) due to the reasons I stated. I have a low res monitor too, probably in worse state than yours! I use UltraVNC when I need to 'administer' the cab. I suggest you look into that. To be honest what your really asking for if you think about it is an Operating System that can be controlled by arcade controls, and used on a low res monitor. All this is just outside the scope of the gameex project I am afraid. Might be my next project though!
  25. In addition, as your machine is obviosly networked why dont you use VNC to access it from another machine, rather than view it interlaced. I think the problem is more bulletproofing GameEx from your kids rather than new features and I am happy to address this with you. If it takes you a bit longer to update GameEx when you get new roms or a new version, I am really not interested, sorry.
