  1. Merged sets "borrow" from other titles in an effort to conserve disc space. I'm really not sure how prevalent this is with CHD's though. Merged = Borrows multiple files from other titles (least amount of storage space required) Split = Less so Non-Merged = No dependency on other titles (most amount of storage space required) Say NFL blitz shares a common file with NBA Jam that is located in the NBA Jam folder (which you throw out). In a merged set scenario, NFL Blitz becomes non-working. This is hypothetical only.
  2. This topic comes up frequently, and to my knowledge, there isn't any easy way. Most systems struggle with CHD's to at least some degree, are you sure your portable can handle them? This fellow put together a fairly extensive guide doing this in RA which may work offer some insight. Given the overall limited number of CHD's, respective to the ROMSET anyway, it may be easiest just to hammer through them and pitch what you don't want. They're merged in most cases though, so make sure you don't pitch something you need.
  3. My theme is the gaming in general......which eliminates a lot of boundaries in that respect!
  4. Ah, was worth a shot!
  5. I started collecting retro metal signs a few years ago, and while I can't say I've ever seen this one, I immediately thought you Atari heads here. A bit pricey IMO, but cool! I'm not sure about this one as I haven't seen it before, but Hobby Lobby has been having many retro signs like this over the years, which they run on sale every couple of weeks for 1/2 price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ATARI-2600-ARCADE-GAME-METAL-SIGN-Quality-VINTAGE-LOOK-VIDEO-PINBALL-AMUSEMENT/272980307223?hash=item3f8ee4ed17:g:2wMAAOSwCMFaMCTN:sc:USPSPriority!37932!US!-1

  7. Yes, set the path in the Advance Mame Settings
  8. The AT&T / Time Warner deal seriously brings to question just what is going on. Somebody needs to be passing out some member berries stat. https://www.theverge.com/2018/6/15/17468612/att-time-warner-acquisition-court-decision
  9. In the interest of clarity, please open a new thread for additional support topics. Thanks!
  10. Oh boy, the final trilogy would have been ugly if Lucas hadn't sold!
  11. The first part of the system pack is downloading at 10 MB/SEC, which is an improvement as I recall from my previous downloads.
  12. Today I've noticed increased latency while accessing the forums. Basically, it's drawing things out, which I can't say I've seen in a while. I didn't post about it earlier as I was on via wireless N, but now I'm not and I see the same issue occurring. This is on a 115 down 25 up connection, so not the best but not bad either. This isn't a huge deal, and so if it's a trade-off for the benefit of others I don't think it's a deal breaker. I have not had the opportunity to test downloads yet. FWIW, I dump everything upon browser close so nothing is cached.
  13. I wasn't even aware of this until you posted it. I've got two sets of the 20th-anniversary set, because the center of one is cracking out, but had no idea about the HD release. Apparently, it didn't play well, forward to incorrect scenes etc., due to a quality control issue. I wouldn't think this would affect gameplay in Daphne, however. Apparently, the Blu-ray release has an even better transfer (but doesn't work for this application).
  14. Same here! I just don't see this being accepted by the market, then again I'm an old fart who doesn't easily adapt to change.
  15. My how time flies, another year gone by, another notch in the controller! If you've been around here for any amount of time, and if you're reading this you most certainly have, then your no doubt acquainted with Draco. His tireless efforts in the forums helping others down the path toward resolution are unprecedented. Please join me in wishing Draco a very Happy Birthday!
  16. https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/ubisoft-ceo-next-game-consoles-will-be-last/ Going by the average cycle of 8 years we've still got a few years on current gen. That puts next-gen EOL around 2028 ish. Perhaps not so far of a stretch. Still, I believe consoles like the Switch will define future console designs. I just don't see casual gamers wanting to payout sub fees for an occasional escape from reality.
  17. I think this would be great for those with space constraints and work well for so many old arcade titles that have vertically oriented screens. For me, I'd rather a conventional pinball playfield, but I still think this is really cool. VP Cabs seems at the top of their game, I like their innovative and out of the box thinking!
  18. Obviously, you're entitled to your own opinion, however discussing ways to enable/disable or defeat features within other manufacturers coding work is not something we desire to have the PinballX forums associated with.
  19. Since this thread has already derailed to Atari I may as well post this here. This about sums how I see the VCS.
  20. I agree, but Nintendo proved the market was there and so others are following. Had their "classics" been flops, none of this happens. It spawned a new generation of consoles, retro or otherwise. Atari is nothing but a name now, and certainly not what some of us older gamers remember it to be. MHO anyway
  21. Well If you want to look at it that way then they are all copying Nintendo. Atari is some drugged up concoction that was almost certainly born off the coattails of the NES classic and SNES classic success. We don't know what it is really yet except for an old name many hold dear. 2600 released in 77 Intellivision in 79 Colecovision in 82 NES in 83 Each was an advancement from the previous although, in my opinion, the CV represented a defining moment in consoles as it very nearly matched the arcade. It also had the best controllers for the time period.

    déjà vu

What's old is new again, it's seemingly all coming back! Saw this posted by I_Did https://www.intellivisionentertainment.com/ http://bit-tech.net/news/gaming/retro/intellivision-picked-for-a-console-rebirth/1/ I certainly played my share on this console (thanks to my neighbors)
  23. My personal review. Is this movie perfect? No, but in no way is it the train wreck it has been so publicized to be. Coming in around the 7/10 mark seems about right to me. It's a long movie with a decent story that all starts a little slow but comes together well in the end. It obvious with this one that there are pretty much no boundaries in the Star Wars Universe. I hope they make more of them because I think he will mature into the Solo character almost in a natural way as he ages. They couldn't have picked anyone that would have checked all the boxes here, but I feel he played the part well. They nailed Lando, no doubt about it! In a nutshell, I liked it immensely more than TFA and TLJ, both of which I thought are cheap knock-off remakes with only slight story changes. Aside from Rogue One, Solo is the most out of the box thinking this series has seen. With this installment, my list looks like this: Empire Star Wars Rouge Return Solo Ep1 (thought it was the worst until I saw 2 and 3) Ep3 Ep2 TFA and TLJ tied for last
  24. This is pretty amazing, I wasn't aware of their existence. I wonder if they are effective for people who have optic nerve damage from optic neuritis, as it cases color perception changes of varying degrees with each recurrence.
