  1. As far as arcade gaming goes, the timing was about as close to perfect as it could get!
  2. The following summer brought the Worlds Fair to Knoxville, and with it some amazing arcades. Anybody venture into Knoxville during this time? Even the tokens were cool.
  3. HLSL Wouldn't you need runtime?
  4. Donkey Kong was released. I'd hate to think how many quarters I spent trying to save that princess!
  5. Okay, so after some reading, the description of the ones at BB shows: "Special-edition matte silver color and premium button design offer high-performance play" and a little further looking shows that was a 2010 model. These are actually going for more over at Amazon, around $90 I think is what I saw. Seems the batteries may be getting a bit suspect depending on where they've been stored. Amazon version shows as released in 2012. Not sure how acurate the BB description is, but I went with a pair fom Amazon. The scary part is the PC wireless adapter, apparently these are in short supply, and dsicontinued by MS. They don't show at their store, and the ones at Amazon are either out there knockoffs, or apparently sourced elsewhere. I ordered what I best could determine was the actual prodcut, but it appears getting a PC version of the controller that includes the reciever is the most sure bet. Anyway, I wasn't aware of this, and would have waited until I actaully need them to find this out.
  6. Okay, so this one would be considered better than the standard PC version, even having to shell out a extra $20 for the wireless PC adapter. What a coincidence that we just had been discussing this in Mike Fishcake's thread! Now to get one or two?
  7. $39.99 Free ship $54.35 at Amazon Seems like a decent deal, and at least some of the reviews like the transforming D pad.
  8. Honestly, I'm not even familiar with some of these systems, but that doesn't stop me from checking this thread just to see what you're up to next!
  9. Well how odd is this? I actually hit a few after posting, and many were people. I know how much you love the people seraching! The trend I've noticed is many of the people names are pin devs, not all, but a good share of them for me have been. Getting back in the groove after some time out has slowed me a bit too, but there is only so much of these more intense searching sessions I can take at one time anyway. As you've pointed out, a lot of this turns into a enjoyable reading assignement. I think I could just about write a research paper about this now.
  10. Weird!!! When I quoted this the link reappeared automagically! Anyway, as i was going to say, I always though there was a certain PC version of the 360 controller, that is until I really looked one up weekend before last.
  11. Probably just slow updating DNS I don't know if TW is as bad as Comcast (nah nobody's that bad), but anyway Comcrap used to have the most unreliable DNS servers I've ever seen. A combination of public DNS address from Google, Open DNS, and your ISP as a third alternative, if at all, should keep you well covered from situatuions like this. Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 my .02
  12. Good info for sure, thanks for the input!
  13. So you've got two PS controllers, one white, and the black one pictured earlier in the thread. Do you have any others, and do you find a specific advanted to the PS controller over say, the XBOX 360 one? This is an area I haven't given much thought to, but something I need to consider at some point down the road.
  14. Yeah, the head room thing was the problem for me, being in the cramped confines of a HTPC case. I went with the Xigmatek Loki due to its short height, but it appears it has since been discontinued. They may have replaced it with another model in the 134mm/92mm fan height range though, and I have no problem recommending them, just don't expect a rebate if there is one. As nullPointer mentioned, overclocking can have an impact on cooler choice. If overclocking, I would recommend a tower style heatsink, as they move the heatpipe air away from the CPU, and towards the case ventilation for optimal flow. I've had best cooling results with ThermalRight heat sinks by far, but Cooler Master and Xigmatek's have proven best bang for the buck without question for me. Seeing Draco's satisfaction with the Cooler Master, it would seem little has change with the quality of their products. The last one I used was a Hyper 212 Plus, but it's pretty huge!
  15. At first when stigzler was commenting about "taking time reading about these developers" I didn't give it much if any thought, I was on the hunt. During this stage though, nothing is just right in front of you, so you have no choice but to do some reading. It's nothing short of amazing some of the background a lot of these guys have. I present to you a article about Douglas Adams, I'm sure you've heard of his book, but did you know the rest of the story? You guys from the UK have a decided advantage most likely, but computer game development, really! Glaring ignorance for sure on my part, but I was really surpised by this one!
  16. The second wave of searching, while progressing much more slowly, is going better than I expected. stigzler's site is great for showcasing these, and it's pretty cool to see the collection now that it has grown quite large. If you haven't done so in a while, you should check it out. Things were pretty slim pickings intially, but after the last couple days, I have renewed faith that we may actually be able to find a fair amount of these throughout the second wave. I think getting used to searching for the more obscure devs took changing to different search phrases to start paying off. One of the pin companies I ran across today was from the 30's!
  17. This last leg is tough, but just look at the ground we've covered! In due time this will all come together, and much of the work already done will allow for a more efficient path to completeion. Good chance most of the efforts in this will go unrecogonized by most, well except for here, but it will be a good feeling to know I was part of something others can use and enjoy, not to mention the fact I finally contributed something somewhat selfless to the community as so many before me have done. I've certainly been the benefiicary of stuff like MAME EXTRAS, which I'm certain is a massive effort on the part of many unsung heros in this hobby. I'm using your theme.....!!! I've been working this and my control panel to stay focused on someting other than EVO's release/announcement, whatever it is. I typically only do wood working once a week with the guys at "board meeting", and tonight I made some more progress. Summer will be gone before you know it, and still have painting to do on parts I haven't even made yet. Safe to say we all got a few more plates spinning than perhaps we should! We'll get there! Thanks for the sticky Draco
  18. Interesting, can't wait to see that in action! I've been looking for something similiar to that, something I could put at the edge of a 1/4 thick piece of plexi, so the light would radiate through the entire sheet.
  19. I think one last run through the list isn't a bad idea, and it looks like you already are well on the way! Spending countless hours looking for what may or may not be out there though, perhaps not such a great investment of energy. I think your correct, Community GameEx will represent the most comprehensive collection currently available, perhaps ever available considering the age of some of these devs. One thing is for sure, no one site has what we have collectively collected. nitsubishu would have fallen under my letters I must have just missed it along the journey down the alphabet, and it's probably not alone, which is why I think a quick rerun might not be a bad idea. We have a number of logos (a lot, if not all of them mine) that got saved as they were on the page, i.e. with the pasted spreadsheet name. I browsed through some yesterday and tried to correct some of them. One, Kronos if I recall, I saved correctly, and the correct one is in there, but so is one named as it was pulled from the web page. In something of this size and nature, it's just going to happen, especially with me involved! Everyone involved has put in a serious amount of effort for certain, but undoubtedly your consitant persistence has been the driving force getting us where we are on this, great job man!
  20. Cool! I'm taking some stay-cation time after today, but almost certainly I'll still poke around a bit on this.
  21. Well the easy part is over for sure, it pretty much goes without saying that from this point forward it's going to be much more difficult. Just so everyone is on the same page, per our discussion ealier today, I will start looking for what games each developer produced, and link that in the notes section. I've already done this to a great extent, but places like Mobygames just list platforms and game titles in a rather incoherent manner, while giantbomb has a miniture box art list, but seemingly it's not as detailed. Bear with me though, I sort of created my noting system as I went, but it remained solid for a good 3/4's of it. The earlier letters I worked may lack the continuity of later entries. I see this upcoming task being a large chunck of the "longhaul project" Draco refrenced earlier. We won't be mowing through devs as before! I honestly think we are going to have to just dig in and see how it goes. I power searched the last week until my eyes were bloodshot, and I didn't run across loads of good box art along the way. In the end it may prove to just be far to difficult to pull off. We'll see! OH , that blue Shogun looking dude in the latest collage, it isn't a logo! I like Gravatar and all, but since it follows you, what seems fitting for one forum, isn't as much for another. I'll spare everyone the boring details, but while rethinking my avatar selection, I found that today, I thought it was cool, but didn't mean for it to find its way into the logosource folder. It has been removed from dropbox BTW. In the end I couldn't pass on the flying fist of ultraman!
  22. Can't believe people put effort into coding that, but oh well!
