I can't get past the song title, this vision of a flying Camry just won't go away!

Finally made the jump to the 21st Century and bought a Smartphone

Hard to resist those Steam sales! Early on I recall dad coming home with a "bag phone", and ironically, these things are still available. Makes the Wallstreet phone seem not so bad! -
Yeah, no doubt about he DVD drive, and the HDD, I've seen them run for a while after a good shock, and then suddenly fail. Regardless, your point is a good one, pending what happens with my attempt getting returned, I may be stuck with it. In that case I'll part it out to the old one when time allows. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, and in all honestly after the last couple weeks I've had, I wish all I had to worry about right now was something as insignificant as this.

Yep! I wasn't really looking for more games, but It came with games too. My main goal was looking more at the console condition than anything, hoping I would find someone who took care of their stuff, but didn't want it anymore. If it hadn't come with the games the damage would have been much worse, as they served to absorb the impacts during shipping, at least on the two sides they were on anyhow. Considering this is a Penneys box, probably with clothes shipping in mind, it's near amazying the two sides of the console right up to the exterior ofthe box didn't get it a lot worse. This I atribute to USPS shippng. No doubt they are slow as hell sometimes, but usually things are in good shape when you get them, at least mine are!

Yes, somehow the hard disk survived, but the DVD drawer doesn't operate properly. I know this was a rather common problem, especially with the old ones, but this one is newer than mine, which was a late 04 model, I never had that problem. Regardless it wasn't mentioned in the details. All it said was "One of the very first Xbox generations. Works amazing and can satisfy your gaming needs. Has Xbox live! Comes with 18 games, two Memory cards and a Black original controller." I was aggravated to say the least, and got tired of messing with it, and didn't have a paper clip handy, so I put it up and snapped some shots. I realize the drive head was parked, but still, that took a shot to break the corner off like that.

Well, I examined the items, mainly the console, but I was almost certain it was banged up just from the lack of packaging. I didn't hastily unbox everything like a kid at Christmas, so it wasn't much to place the items back in and snap pictures of how it arrived. I knew when I saw the box that it was barely large enough for everything, so I snapped a couple of it before I even opened it up. This was priority mail, I can't imagine what it would have looked like if it shipped via UPS.

Yep, ebay! After years of pretty much no trouble, I just had problem with another seller without a return policy. I tried to reason with him, but he flat out told me to "open a case", so I did. I lost! I purhcased a new, unopend item, which was defective, and the company that made it wouldn't deal with me at all because I wasn't the original buyer. What I learned is, if they list no returns, and the item isn't as described, I'm going staight to open case, if I lose so be it! Trying to communicate ended up doing nothing but dragging it out longer. I do think this is the one pictured, everything was in there, games etc., it was just a piss poor excuse for packaging by someone who didn't care.
-
No return policy! I admit it, I took a gamble, only 9 feedback, with one being neutral. Everyone starts sometime though, right, and the pictures of the unit looked almost new. It's 2005 build, and I'm sure it "was" in good shape prior to shipment. I don't need another paper weight, so I opened a case. We shall see, and if it doesn't go may way, I can always rob the power supply from it and give it a go in the old one.

Nah, you don't get to be most hated company, without doing something right, er, wrong?

Crash and burn! This arrived yesterday, in a JCPenney box, no packagaging, well unless you count four deflated air packs, and some wadded up Walmart style plastic bags Everything was basically just squeezed into the box, right up to the cardboard! Loose, controller just sitting on top of the console, I'd say you can likely imagine what shape it is in! I just don't get it, why wouldn't you even attempt to package it with at least some chance of surviving the trip? /end rant

I actually have no issues with Origin, other than it's very bland, and well there is the whole EA thing!!! I recall when Steam first rolled out, and man talk about rough around the edges, it was horrible, but now it is polished and praised. I grabbed the plants/zombies game as soon as it was announced. Good laptop game for passing time, if you find yourself in that position. I've got all of BF3, but was turned off of the CoD style release schedule they adopted with BF4, so I took a pass on 4. BF3 is pretty good, but BF BC2 was better IMO.

Being that I wasn't around when you left, but instead based on the warm welcome you've recived from everyone, you must be an exceptional member of the community that was truly missed. Welcome back!

Coming from the one who brought us guy on a buffalo, you knew going in it might be a little, um odd! Happy Birthday KRC

Cool, thanks man!

So I had a little time to start into this today, and got to the part about MAMEUI. Previouslly, using Mr. Do's method, I simply used the 64 bit version of MAME. Is it necessary that I use MAMEUI to launch? I would prefer to keep things as lean as possible.

You can get by with the gas grill if you soak it in milk first! Just sayin!

You shot first damnit! Happy Birthday man!

I'm really not that big of a console person, and have no desire for a XBOX One, I'd rather play on my computer. I really just wanted to retain use of what I have, and this is a fairly reasonable way of doing just that. Your new avatar is cool BTW!

Man, I don't have time to play the games I already have! Must resist..... Thanks for the heads up nullPointer, I thiink.

doh, didn't think to look there! Thanks!

That's a bummer

Getting ready to compile 0.153, and I haven't done this in several years. Last time around I used the method over at Mr. Do's, but thought I would use HK's compiler. Since this is inline with this topic, I thought I'd just ask here vs. starting a whole new thread. mameinfo.dat and history.dat are release specific, but what about the others? Okay to compile using the fixed history.dat? I'm curious to as to why the high score diff wasn't mentioned, or is it already included in one of the others?

I wasn't familiar with "2N", but a quick search shows it's just another command rate value. with older ram this was commonly 1T, with the higher end stuff, 2T with generic. What he has had you do is loosen your timings to acheive the overclock, and you boosting the voltage .5 over what he recommended has apparetnly made it stable. Some of what I am reading indicates the APU's are RAM hungry, and whomever is guiding you through this apparently knows this, and has given you insite as to how they got it working. I'm guessing, but I bet you could get it to run at 1600 by playing with the voltage too, but that would result in a lower clock, and it seems you got what you want. EasyTune by AMD? You mean the one that came with the board? I believe EasyTune has clocked your memory higher than what the poster suggested. Take a peak in the settings. You're probably okay, but if you got any concerns with cooling, keep a close eye on it. If you're still on stock cooling, I would still consider a good aftermarket cooler. I've had good luck with ThermalRight, but this is on a Intel platform, and there are lots of other good ones out there, some with a lot more bang for the buck than others. Seems you've found a good place for AMD support, I'm sure they have some cooler recs. I'm curious if this overclock yielded the results you were going for, please let us know!

Hmmm, 1866 is the max memory frequency your board supports, and that's overclocked. If it booted and ran at all then it seems odd that it wouldn't at a lesser speed, especially one that is stock for the memory (1600). What values did they give you?
-
That is what it is setting the frequency to in AUTO, as the SPD on the memory is providing this information to the motherboard. There is no harm in bumping it to the advertised speed. You can toggle through AUTO to Manual (or similar) and adjust to the multiple to get to 1600. I would rely on the memory, but it could be you have a revision that is 10 instead of 9. In reality, you'll probably never be able to tell the difference. If you still have the RAM documentation, and it clearly indicates 9-9-9-24, then that's what I would do. Any problems revert back to 10. Check the below links for info/description. Knowing the value to input is all you really need to know. If the BIOS is asking for something you don't have a value for, probably best to let the memory SPD handle it (which is what you're doing now). You can still change the multiplier to get the higher frequency. http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/serial-presence-detect-SPD http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/64
