  1. Just in case you're interested: Band-IT
  2. Weird, I've already got the 3/4" birch plywood in the garage for building mine. I've built about everything in my office out of birch or red oak plywood, and use band-it edging to finish it off. For the pedestal stand, I'm thinking black T-mold though, the band-it edge looks good, but it's time consuming. I use low gloss tongue oil (really wiping varnish) or semi gloss polyurethane for my finishes. I've nearly moved completely away from poly, it's just such a bitch with to deal with, all the way down to the clean up, where as tongue oil is wipe on, wipe off. After tons of measurements and considerations, I'm aiming for a control panel height at the top front base, of 38". This drops my star wars yoke 1 1/2 inches below the arcade height, but I think that will still be fine. I'm just over 5' 10", and have tested this on cardboard boxes to no end to see if it feels right. I finally came to the your conclusion, feels good standing up, and should be okay on a stool too. Anyone else reading this, don't go there! I purchased a sheet of mdf for the bottom plate, but man, just look at that stuff wrong and it chips. I've always hated mdf, and that was the last straw for me.
  3. Wow, that mount fits the bill for sure, and at a great price!
  4. Again, assuming a similar designed pedestal, another option I was considering was mounting a smaller display in the area the speakers are on this one, then out-rigging some desktop speakers. This kinda takes away from the clean lines though. You could always incorporate one mounting beam into the cab, and another exterior to it to allow for use of two of those mounts.
  5. I'm to frugal to let go that sort of cash on a mount, to me, those are kinda pricey. Check this one Imagine running an horizontal support beam, in this case across the area the speakers are mounted in that cab I linked, or a few inches below it to ensure it remains pretty much out of sight. Use the clamp to get it nice and firmly clamped where you want it, then take 4 number 10 screws with washers and also screw the mount to your support beam. The picture shows the holes I'm referring to, and by doing this you're pretty much guaranteeing it isn't going anywhere, and saving some cash too. If you're looking at using a PC monitor, rather than a TV, I would really lean toward some of the 27". For the small premium, it's a lot of extra real-estate, plus if you got one that swiveled, all the better. Swing it around have have a small pinball playing field, not to mention the bonus for just regular games In MAME. This is the downfall of my planned use of my Samsung 40". Anyway, some unsolicited thoughts.
  6. To me the one in this thread has so much more character, but you'd have to build it, and modifiy it slightly for the shelving. Guy did a super job, and his Tank Stick looks like it belongs there, fits like a glove. I can tell from your comments that you have the same idea as I do for the one I am currently designing. I finally got enough built on my yoke control panel to figure the height of the overall pedestal, now if I can just find time to build it.
  7. You can keep an eye out for a cab down your way on ebay, I see them often times for good prices. I found a Hydra machine about a two years ago that I really wanted for the yolk. The machine had been to hell-n-back, and had rust problems. The seller wasn't interested in discussing it, other than sure, I'll sell you the controller for the same price. I think these people many times just want them gone, and don't give a flip about you, or your questions. That, or people selling old arcade cabs are just rude in general I'm completely with you on that pedestal, if I looked at it once, I've stumbled across it a thousand times. I just can't get past the look, it just doesn't do it for me. Perhaps graphics would change that, but the monitor shelf, eh, I dunno. Everything else I've found is outrageously overpriced.
  8. I don't know the exact details, but it stands to reason that the reg key has some mechanism to prevent you from simply reinstalling it. If it didn't, a good chance one key would get out in the wild and be abused. If you reinstalled it on the same OS, I'm guessing all would be golden, but switching from 8 to 7 could have been the difference maker. This is purely speculation BTW. Tom regularly checks the forums so I would give him a bit to see this post and respond. He will fix you up in short order! Remember, he is in the UK though, so keep the time difference in mind.
  9. The second monitor setup sure looks sweet, and in the end, if you really want the marquee/controller display options, it sure would seem to be an easier path. I'm with you on the "Golden Age" titles, but you know how this hobby goes, eventually you'll delve into uncharted water, and discover games you never knew you loved Either way, It will be interesting to see how it works out for you. Please post some updates as you progress in the Gamer Rigs forum.
  10. Your not alone stigzler, I'm just as guilty of this myself!
  11. Let me get this straight, you spent months building a phat rig for the house, now your hooked on driod games, want to find a emulator for windows so you can run this on said rig, and what, leave this on attract mode? Sorry, but after your "I never play games" post, I couldn't help myself!
  12. Peanut Butter Jelly Time

    1. DazzleHP

      DazzleHP

      You mean jam :P:P:P:P

  13. Yeah, and Leisure Suit Larry
  14. I understand, but as stigzler once responded to a similar post I made on another project: I feel the same applies here, uberpubert unselfishly decided to start a project that would benefit the community, not only here, but for retro gaming in general. You decided to give back by helping out, and that is something I feel makes this community of gamers so great. There will always be tweaking, and making it "a little better", and in time that comes from the guys that just do it, as is evidenced here. These efforts are often times more appreciated than it seems on the surface, so by all means, keep up the good work!
  15. Greatly appreciate the quick attention to this. I was able to get my forum fix quickly and easily while in the waiting room this afternoon!
  16. Sierra Games returns! I remember back in the day it seemed just about every game was a published by Sierra title, everything from Half-Life to Trophy Bass. Hopefully this will bring a bunch of cool indie games to the masses.
  17. Yeah, but that attract mode looks dead sexy running on your cabinet!
  18. Wow, how cool is that !!! Just when you least expect it, someone gracious with their time and talent shows up and gives you a much appreciated hand.
  19. Judging from your forum title, it appears you do. <edit> sorry, good chance I miss-spoke Orlin. Hopefully you kept your registration email, for backup of the key if nothing else, and can refer to it to see if you make the cutoff date. I should have rechecked Tom's post, as it is quite clear on this.
  20. Dude! Not to speak out of place, but given you're "Dazzle", I think your already good to go! They have ways of getting in touch with you! ........... Given that GameEx has been actively supported for so long, what 10 years almost(?), it's cool to see that such a reasonable pricing model has been released with a new version on the horizon right in front of us. I can't imagine what's moving and shaking behind the scenes to make this all come into place, but never the less, thanks for the effort involved in making this happen!
  21. Man, I completely forgot about that! The one guy that could believable pull that character off
  22. Knoxville Based on our travel to St Augustine, you'll be right in our neck of the woods on the way in, and out. Downtown Knoxville, is experiencing a rebirth, one that doesn't revolve around UT. If you happen to be coming through you might want to catch glimpse of it, Market Square and the neighboring blocks are alive these days. Let me know if you do!
  23. My wife and I just read about this, and both of us are shocked I can still remember the Mork and Mindy Pilot/Series, almost like it was yesterday, and recall an article about him being a big gamer, Counter Strike at the time, I believe. Sad news indeed! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9g1yRXF8I8&feature=player_detailpage

    PCSX2 Peeps

Sounds like I need to be testing out my wireless 360 controllers! They couldn't have been more plug and play as far as the install process, plug em up, and away they go. Tom pointed out this in the deal of the day thread I posted. I installed the new one on my 8.1 (GameEx) box Friday, and the driver date was I believe March 14, but I didn't try any games yet.
