see attached, thanks again. CustomMenu.ini GameEx.ini log.txt
-
well after posting my question i realized i should have also mentioned i know about the setting you are referring to and it is also set to NOT hide. So that's why this is so frustrating because it's just not found anywhere inside the menus.
-
i'm using a custom menu configuration and do not see anyway to add the "update game list" pick. Oddly enough at one point i do recall seeing it somewhere but now for whatever reason can't seem to find it or how to force it to show up.
-
solved my own problem.... the second monitor was unplugged... apparently this will cause the errors.... wow what a lot of work for nothing... my bad.
-
updating this issue... went so far as to revert back to a disk image taken at the beginning of the year and the issue still persists.... still getting error message above when launching gameex if the mm plugin is loaded or if i try to configure the plugin inside gameex.
-
getting an unhandled exception error when attempting to run this program or configure within gameex.... odd was working for many months... didn't update gameex or the plugin... however went ahead and grabbed the latest version of the plugin but doesn't help.... any ideas... tried searching for this but come up empty See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: InvalidArgument=Value of '1' is not valid for 'SelectedIndex'. Tom, believe i discovered what was causing the behavior described... i found a single logo file in .jpg whereas the rest were png... converted said jpg to png and removed the jpg now appears to have fixed everything.... have tried to break it several times and looks good.
-
I'm seeing random behavior whereas when browsing the selection wheel all of the sudden logos will show up incorrectly for the game. The way to reproduce is to start scrolling through the list and then backup and suddenly a game logo will be shown more than once in succession, one being obviously the wrong logo for the game... as example frenzy logo shows up twice, one being correct and the other incorrect which should be the frogger logo. If i choose a game then go back the logos show up correct again.... but as soon as i start scrolling a little bit the problem comes back. It's as though the program can't keep up with matching the rom name to the logo matching name. Any ideas?

Hello Tom, i've already tried the simple mode but the problem is the interface i took the time to setup the way i want it also changes.... more specifically, the backgrounds go away and the wheel style selector is replaced with a simple list.... among other differences.... can this be changed in "simple mode"?
-
I am a registered paying member with everything setup the way i want, custom menu, theme, with one exception can't figure out. Interface mode is set to normal. Changing this mode removes most of my custom stuff. I would like to remove the top menu displayed in mame games that show things like "by category" "by developer", etc.... basically don't want the user (aka friends) from getting into those menus by going left or right.... only want them to go up or down, or back button.... realize i could adjust joystick settings so left and right don't work or do something else... but would rather just not have those top menus all together. Going into those menus can get folks lost if they don't know what they are doing. Trying to idiot proof my setup. is this possible? thanks.
-
okay well guess i should go ahead and outline my problem because based on additional testing i'm even more confused. Here's the situation in detail. I changed the button mapping inside Track & Field then rexported the layout image using the batch export tool, the new png image appeared to show the new mapping correctly. However, when i did the same for Asteroids, it does not. By default Asteroids in Mame uses the joystick to rotate left and right. I changed this to buttons and also moved the fire, thrust, and shield to the player 2 buttons to simulate how the actual game is. The new layout image shows the joystick is still used to rotate and the fire, thrust, and shield is on the wrong buttons. I've tried to play around with the controls.xml file but can't seem to figure out what i'm doing wrong.
-
Without getting too far into my problem i'll keep this simple for now with the hopes of figuring out the bigger issue. After editing the controls.xml file, as example putting the number 1 at the end of the value section for a particular game, ... <label name="P1_JOYSTICK_LEFT" value="Rotate Left1"/> then saving said file then re-exporting a layout image, the value still shows "Rotate Left".... as though the change made in the xml has no affect. Any ideas? Thanks.

I know how to find settings and i know what you're talking about,... that is not the issue. I have that setting set to "NO". I'm walking away from this for a few days but when i come back i will send the ini files. btw... reddog, you can try googling "temporarily disable and not use a database for the emulator" and "gameex" and you will find immediately what i'm referring to. Google is your friend :-) Thank you.
-
okay... so guess the problem is i do not see this function anywhere now for some reason after a complete uninstall, reinstall, and updated my list. after searching i found a comment about "temporarily disable and not use a database for the emulator" in order for this to appear. Upon further searching for how to do this i've come up empty. So next question i is what do i need to do to "temp disable and not use a database for the emulator"... whatever this means? thanks again.
-
okay, admit easy to misunderstand each other. Let me ask another way.... there was a selection i've seen in the past which allowed you to automatically create video snaps for all roms you have, it would warn you this might take 2 days, etc. Does this feature still exist or was this featured removed at one point. If it still exists where is it at? "hide create snaps" is off but don't think this has anything to do with making "video" snaps.
-
i think both of you think i'm describing a pick "inside gameex"... that's not what i'm saying. I said " inside the start menu" within gameex which has nothing to do with the wizard. In other words, in the program folders inside GameEx, inside the "Utilities" folder, there was a pick which read something to the affect of "create video snaps"... then you would be warned this would take a couple days, do you want to proceed, etc, etc. thanks.
-
I've seen inside the start menu within gameex a pick for "creating video snaps" but after an uninstall re-install of latest and greatest i do not see this pick anymore. Can someone fill me in on what the deal is with this missing function? thanks.
-
appears i solved my own problem by purchasing "the key".... once registry keys were applied problems disappeared. I realize this is not intended behavior but fyi to Tom. tthurman, never said anything about an "S" drive... must have me confused with someone else, looks like your post was removed.

Getting a windows error at 49% during updating list. see attached, also attaching gameex logs and configs. after hitting ok on this error then continues on to verify data (55%) and just hangs for infinity. Please help.... stuck. GameEx.ini log.txt

having the same issue as describe here except in my case i'm using 12.54 and mame64 0.175. Probably will just pay for the gameex upgrade to avoid this and potentially other issues i'm guessing. Life is too short. :-)

just tried to pay for the 1 year pass but got an email from paypal saying "your automatic payment did not go through". says to contact Spesoft to pay what your owe. I've never in my life had payment be rejected and have rarely used paypal to do anything but receive payments not pay out.... for what it's worth. edit.... also btw what's the deal with "amount to be paid each time" business? appears you are trying to setup an auto pay every year? What am i missing? Sorry,... just reading verbatim what's on the paypal message. thanks.

I was a paid user from a few years ago. Last version i have that i can "register" with is 12.54. I only use GameEx for MAME and Daphne. Don't know if it's worth mentioning buy just recently went from Mame .133 to the latest version of mame. Has there been anything done which stands out as justifying making a new purchase so i can "register" with the latest version of GameEX by way of either performance or features and if going from MAME .133 to the latest has any bearing? I realize i could go through all the release notes but am hoping someone can give me the cliff notes version of what might make me want to pay again to go latest knowing i just use this for Mame and Daphne. I've got the latest version of GameEX running but at first glance haven't found anything that stands out but i could be missing something. Thank you.

okay, so first off, no there is nothing in the launch on startup or exit, so regarding why there is reference to media center in the logs is still a mystery. secondly, i hope everyone can forgive me after i tell you what the black screen issue was all about. I was using Logmein to remotely control this new mame machine and it was only until i got home that i realized the issue was the graphics was more than the logmein driver could handle (I guess), either way when i got home no black screen and gameex was waiting for me to play.... sorry. one more thing, so do i mark this thread as "solved" and if so how do i do that,.... sorry as well.... been several years.
