  1. That is some amazing troubleshooting you did there man. I think the bottom line is, use the stand-alone app, rather than the auto-scrape, which in all fairness we've promoted since the start I can do nothing but praise your veracity, and your diligence in seeking an answer to something that you may have hit a dead end, but you didn't. You pushed your bounderies, you didn't accept "no". This is what we are about. Welcome aboard Macguvyer!
  2. Wow man! that's a great insight both on how the gamebases work, and how GameEx interacts with them. I'm wondering, once you replaced the C64 screenshots with the vids, did you purge/delete the cache files associated with C64 GameBase and reload GameEx? Also, what format are the C64 vids? MP4, FLV etc?
  3. Baring that in mind, can you configure GameBase itself to recognise the vids? The reason being, that GameEx (as far as i am aware) always used the GameBase databases themselves, to get the info required, so if the vids are not configured in GameBase, then GameEx will not account for them. Effectively what that means is, if you want it in GameEx, then make sure it is configured in your GameBase. The GB functionality of GameEx really is awesome, but understand that patience rewards determination.
  4. Yes you can. Make sure the correct image box is selected in the "Layout" view, then click the "eyeball". Doing this will make whatever element is selected either invisible or visible. Sometimes however, you might want to take more drastic measures. A good tactic that has been used for a while now is to put elements of a theme that you don't want "off screen". This works well for elements that don't behave with the eyeball I'll go into more detail about that if you require, but for now you should experiment
  5. I tried to come up with a clever way of saying it, but it all ended cheesy. So, sorry: Happy Birthday big cheese
  6. Agreed on all accounts apart from last statement - OnlyRoms means (if set to true) will only include roms that you actually have. Anything missing will automatically be excluded. Sometimes it better to exclude what you don't have, than trying to include what you may have
  7. I tried to say this - keep it charged even when you don't need it MO, in all the shmups i have ever played, i deem this one of the hardest. Gimme touhou bullet hell anytime! The massive hitbox and unforgiving speed of projectiles, make this title particularlly terrifying to me. I hope one day i can join you in the 4m club, but i think by then you'll not only be first, but untouchable Keep it up man - it's great to watch!
  8. I understand what you are requesting, but at the same time am asking myself "Is it really that hard to choose a system from a list"? -Genesis - (click) -Super NES - (click) -NES - (click) -Master Sytem - (click) -C64 - (click) ... using Custom Menus, It literally is only one click
  9. Ok, i think i know what is going on here. I think you have MAME set up as a regular emulator, correct? I think it is in emulator slot one (1). Quoting your ini: emu_1_dbcacheinicreated51=Trueemu_1_enabled=Trueemu_1_system=Arcadeemu_1_category=Arcadeemu_1_emulator=MAMEemu_1_version=0.145emu_1_rating=8.4emu_1_downloadurl=http://www.gamesdbas...ownload/mame.7zemu_1_requiredfiles=emu_1_website=http://mamedev.org/emu_1_info=MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. When used in conjunction with images of the original arcade game's ROM and disk data, MAME attempts to reproduce that game as faithfully as possible on a more modern general-purpose computer. MAME can currently emulate several thousand different classic arcade video games from the late 1970s through the modern era.emu_1_titletext=Mameemu_1_startpagename=[Arcade] Arcade (MAME)emu_1_startpagelogo=MAMEemu_1_command=mame.exe [ROM] -rompath [quote][ROMPATH][quote]emu_1_romfilter=emu_1_database=Templateemu_1_configfile=[Mapping Off] Exit (Process Close)emu_1_mapfile=[APP]\Map Files\[Arcade] Arcade (MAME).mapemu_1_rompath=C:\Roms\MAME\Romsemu_1_snappath=C:\Assets\MAME\Snapsemu_1_titlepath=C:\Assets\MAME\Titlesemu_1_boxpath=C:\Assets\MAME\Boxesemu_1_cartpath=C:\Assets\MAME\Cartridgesemu_1_manualpath=C:\Assets\MAME\Manualsemu_1_controlpanelpath=C:\Assets\MAME\Controlsemu_1_workingpath=C:\Emulators\MAMEThis is, in fact not the way to setup MAME in GameEx. GameEx has its very own MAME setup, specifically designed to utilize MAME in all it's glory. It will treat MAME as "special" if set up in the correct manner Admittedly, this is not as obvious as it should be to newcomers - we should do something about that. To configure GameEx properly for MAME, load the Setup Wizard: Windows Menu> All Programs> GameEx> Setup Wizard. Choose Custom> MAME Settings, and configure/enter all your paths (mame.exe, roms, screens etc). Boot GameEx. If done correct, GameEx will ask "Update List"? Choose Yes and wait (it may take some time! In fact quite some time if you have a weak pc). When it is done, you will have a much better list, with info's, screens, and proper rom names!
  10. From your first post i'm not clear what you want - do you want the filename to display, or the database name to display? Also, you are happy with how mame is working correct?
  11. Hi there, From the description you gave, and if i understood correct, then yes you can! Using Custom Menu's No commands needed.
  12. Hi there jdogg, I know it can become frustrating learning a new program when you just want to "get it done" but i'm sure you can agree that each new program/app needs a little patience to grasp and understand how it works. As it happens (and i'm sincere in this, not just because i'm a mod) that GameEx is the most user friendly, and configurable frontend that has existed for a long time Bearing that in mind, i can tell you that you in fact posted your gameexonline.ini, which in this case doesn't help us much in understanding what is wrong, and how to help you. I have my suspicions, as do i'm sure a lot of members reading this, as to what may need changing in order to rectify your situation, but in order to do that we need access to the right files As you're new to all this it's understandable that you mistook the file we are after for the one you posted. For clarity, we would like your gameex.ini located in: ...\GameEx\CONFIG\gameex.ini Once you have found that file and posted it, i'm confident we can help you move forward
  13. It ain't fiction, i can give you a tech report, with vids if need be. I stand by my previous post. i3 + good board + nice ram + powerful PSU = It is that simple.
  14. My current build which runs an HD7870 (yes, that exact card) previously ran with same board, same RAM and the same CPU. It ran PS2 and GameCube perfectly fine, in 1080p on most games with an inferior HD5750 1GB card. I have 650w PSU (which no doubt helped) but you don't need crazy hardware to get these types of Emu's running smooth. Grab yourself an i3 - they are cheap, and the threading capabilities really will help your performance. They really are the poor man's i7 Get a half decent board to house it. Personally, Gigabyte boards rock, Asus and MSI are known to rule too. A bit of decent memory and an average dedicated GPU and you're laughing. An i3 with the right board will shock you
  15. To answer your earlier question, and put your mind at ease (i don't think anyone has yet ) - the support files will not affect the running of MAME. As long as you have your MAME executable selected, and your rom path selected in GameEx, the correct commands will be sent. This is what GameEx is good at! If the above are correct, and you are being thrown back to the menu, it's most likely rom incompatibility as nullPointer mentioned. I know it sucks, but MAME is not like any other emulator - your rom versions really must match your MAME version to work properly. For the record, i would opt for RomCenter, it's user friendly, has a great UI and much easier to get to grips with if you're new to all of this. If you're wondering, the support files that we all talk about allow you to refine your (MAME) list in very powerful ways, but i would advise to get it working first, before you even bother with all that
  16. Good call! Though i would grab yourself at least one wired for when things don't go to plan, like a battery cutting out, or signal interupt when the whole family is watching it's a good save hehehe
  17. When you run PCSX2 (through GameEx) without Bonus, does it do the same thing?
  18. Try this - Open your GameEx.ini in notepad. Find this line: HIDEDESKTOP=TrueChange it to: HIDEDESKTOP=FalseThen File> Save Boot GameEx and see if there is any difference. If so we are on the right track - if not, then we have at least ruled something out
  19. I wanna reach out, and touch the sky, i wanna touch the sun but i don't need to fly... I'm sure my grammar is blasphemy to some of you, but meh =P love the song!

  20. Some great games you've added there! I'm so glad you picked this up and made it yours. Respect. May i suggest that you make your own thread, in this forum with your latest additions and build upon it? I think it would be a great focal point for your project, and will give you a substantial amount of control over what is available to you at present. I can also pretty much guarantee that if you do so, it will get pinned
  21. I know exactly what you mean. Being a shmup (shoot 'em up) fan, i've tried long and hard attempting to get a vid online that accurately portrays what is happening on-screen. Pretty much all the vid hosting sites will crunch your footage down to almost nothing, using aggresive algorithms, not really caring where your footage comes from, or how it should be treated. The only option, to get authentic footage at present, is to download from the source. I don't know where you go from there ??
  22. Just played some Horizon 2 to test the pass-through - brilliant! And apparently it works just as well on PC using a loop-back! I must test this! Very impressed so far Oh btw, it's usb powered! In other words no separate mains/socket required! Lovin this the more i use it
  23. I know right! This is at default settings which equates to around 10mins per GB. You can compress the vid quite a bit it seems, but for a test i'm not going to - obviously Plus i know i can half it or better with no noticable to-naked-eye compression using methods that i already know hehe Now i want to capture everything
  24. So i got myself some capture hardware, it's my first time as i usually do software caps. This is my first test run... The hardware is an Elgato HD60. It's impressive right?
  25. Gigabyte boards are brilliant! Run them with a half-decent PSU and you're golden. My desktop is 4years old and i've pushed it quite hard without any specialised cooling (just big fans) and it still shows no signs of letting up. Over 4 years i've gained around 6-7 degrees, and in all honesty that's probably coz i'm lazy and i don't clean it out as much as i should I would happily give over substantial amounts of money for a Gigabyte Mobo, and wouldn't think about it.
