I would just like to add my disgust @ M$ - i was an xbox fan years ago but slowly and surely M$ has destroyed all respect i had for them. @Hansolo - they are ignoring you, and they will until you threaten them in some way. I had my account hacked a few years ago (someone was online using it 24hrs a day) and it took 2 months for them to even bother with me - and that was only after i sent them a nasty letter threatening all sorts of compensation claims It's a shame because the xbox is/was a great medium - its the company behind it that blows! And don't even get me started on DLC that should be free that they get away with charging 1200points for! ARRRRGH /rant Anywho i will still play a few Live Arcade titles such as PB-FX2 and in the process of re-doing times with my new tag on Trials Evo. If anyone who plays Evo wants to add for competitiveness go ahead and add me: shmuppafromhell My old tag (in sig) is still in the top 1500 after not using it for 8 months tho so, if you just want someone to make your own scores look better - i'm probably not the guy

[GUIDE] Using Custom Menus
DazzleHP replied to DazzleHP's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
For what (i think) you're asking i would just use the built-in filters of GE in the main MAME menu ie: Go to MAME> all MAME games> By Category> Fighter / 2D It only takes a few clicks and will list exactly that - all 2D Fighters in your MAME set However, if you absolutely must have a Menu item such as you describe then you will need to look into Rom Auditing and creating your own set - which is far beyond the intended purpose of this guide. Some links to get you started should you decide to plunge: clrmamepro - command line rom management, do your research! RomCenter - does pretty much the same only it has a GUI and therefore much easier to see the damage you are doing to your set before you do it RomLister - good for creating custom sets quickly and here is a guide. I would advise in all cases, to work on a copy of your rom set when new to this - accidents happen, and often when it comes to auditing. Thanks! That's exactly how i have it set up, and a launcher in XBMC to launch GE -
+1 to everything nullPointer said and once you have you compiled your own (i have a feeling you will ) make sure to create a folder called hi in the main MAME directory ie: \MAME\hi as the highscore patch requires it. Good luck and of course many people on this forum will gladly help out should you come to any hurdles - i still do

Hi there, I think the silver font you mention is/was a feature that Tom may have been trying out and still remains - it will always show a gradient font for game info etc when selecting PURE WHITE for your font (FFFFFF) so if you really want white for your font change the color to something just off - try FCFCFC. This should remove the gradient (silver) font and make all white and nobody will know its not "pure brilliant white" (well except for everyone reading this lol)

All themes are located @ ...\GameEx\THEMES -each folder in that directory is a single theme. "Default - Default" is the one GameEx falls back on i believe so make sure to keep that one and you also might want to make sure it is selected in setup (using the wizard outside of GE may be wise for now as you are having problems with the theme picker)

There is no Steam section in the emulator portion of the setup. Steam will appear in your list once you have set your username in the Steam config section of GameEx, providing both the following are true: 1) The "username" section must be your actual username, not your screen name/gamertag/handle etc but the ID you use to login to Steam. 2) You have purchased at least ONE game from the Steam store, it can be any game and while the Xmas sale is on you should be able to grab one for less than £1/$2 Once both of these are true then Steam should appear in your list with all games present and from that point on you can use Steam to launch all your PC games through GameEx (use "add non-Steam game") Hope this helps and Merry Christmas
-
There was an issue with GameEx losing focus when using the XPadder plugin, Adultery however kindly fixed it in a recent update Please grab it from HERE and let us know if it resolves your issue. Oh and Merry Christmas! -EDIT- And to answer your question, the plugin will launch your .xpadderprofile(s) without the hassle of using .BAT files (the old, cumbersome way) Go to Start>Programs>GameEx>Configuration>Plugin Manager to point the plugin to your relevent Xpadder profiles

Merry Christmas to you all, And i'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the Mods, the Admins and the regulars who continue to make sure this is the best forum and community on the net. May the following year be kind and prosperous to you! HOHOHO

Hi there, I guess utlimately it would depend on what it is you intend to emulate - for the real retro consoles (ie SNES, Genesis etc) your current setup will probably be fine but if you eventually want to emulate the more modern systems (PS1,PS2, Dreamcast, Gamceube) I would go for at least a dual core with a semi-decent GPU and a fast drive. My specs: 2nd Gen i3 @ 3.4 4GB DDR3 @ 1333 Radeon HD5750 1GB GDDR5 @ 4600 Barracuda 1TB @ 7200 I can run most GC games at a steady 60fps and quite a few Wii games too. Same with PS2 and Dreamcast. Emulation for these consoles is faily new though so, for moment, you'll get troublesome games for each no matter your hardware Good luck!
-
Hi there, in regards to your background problem please refer to this post. It may well solve your issue too
-
Glad you got that section sorted! No need for anything too drastic just yet - we'll get you there You're right there is definately a DX issue there though that shouldn't have any effect on your mouse - DirectInput would, i maybe wrong tho as unfortunately DirectX is beyond my scope i'm afraid. My advice would be for now is check you have the latest DX for your OS and it wouldn't be a bad idea to install your latest video card drivers. Someone with more expertese may know what the errors mean: 23:14:08.1 12/4/2012: ERRORS DETECTED: EXITING23:14:08.1 12/4/2012: Error in the application.23:14:08.1 12/4/2012: at Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.Device.BeginScene()23:14:08.1 12/4/2012: at Direct2D.Direct2d.Device.BeginScene(Boolean Clear, Color ClearColour)23:14:08.1 12/4/2012: at GameEx.GameEx.mainform.c(Boolean A_0)23:14:08.1 12/4/2012: at GameEx.GameEx.mainform.dx()A few questions if i may: You are using a tankstik correct? does it have the trackball? AFAIK the trackball emulates mouse input so this may be effecting your real mouse - have you tried using it? GameEx may disable the toolbar if no mouse is detected though i'm not sure on this. Also do you have 3rd party mouse software installed? Ie a driver disc software of any kind or do you have a bog standard mouse? If so you can try re-installing such software or remove it completely and make do with basic mouse input. As for your videos glitching and such it may well be related to the above DX issue.

What would it take to start one? I have nothing but time for the forseeable future so i'll put myself up first for the task I'll probably need some pointers to start with but i am a very fast learner and have some experience with MySQL so not a total DB noob. Live GE Scores is something i think LOTS of ppl will like and what other FE has them?? I'm not naturally competitve but when i see someone knock me down a few places on a leaderboard then i become all "oh no you di'int! IT-IS-ON!!!" I'll be more than happy to contibute to this anyway i can so i'll just put that out there for y'all to ponder...
-
Sad to hear this some sort of GE live scores got me real pumped! I have no qualms about backin up my own hiscores before using the plugin and cheaters never bothered me in any game - in actual fact often times i wouldn't be half as good at a game if it wasn't for cheaters as i try that much harder to beat them legit As you said it's nothing to be taken too seriously but could possibly spark some interesting competitions and rivalries

That is correct - if you choose Steam as an Item Type the Emulator/group/App section will be unselectable (greyed out) as Steam is it's own self contained item, just like MAME Actually, on this one very rare occasion Draco made a booboo ^^ he meant CustomMenu.ini - but as he works so dam hard on these forums we'll keep that between us If you would please upload CustomMenu.ini that would be great (its in the same folder as custominput.ini) you can upload straight to the forum using the full reply editor - but i have a suspicion the Menu's are not at fault here - rather your Steam config. In regards to that can you check your Username is correct in Steam config. It must be your actual username - not your screen name/tag/handle etc but the username you use to log in The fact it is unselectable within GE tells me there are no entries in your steam list. Please report back your findings.

Wow that really is some impressive animation! Thanks for share! Jealous.

To use CHD's you need to drop them (each) into their own subfolder within your main MAME roms folder (the one with all the zipped roms). I'll try to give an example that may help explain it better: For argument's sake lets say all your MAME roms are located in C:\ROMS Inside this directory you have kinst.zip (the killerinstinct rom) but as you know you also need the CHD. So you create a folder inside this directory with the same name as your rom: C:\ROMS\kinst Then drop your CHD into that folder: C:\ROMS\kinst\kinst.chd You need to do this for each CHD that your roms require. The CHD must also be unzipped/unpacked/uncompressed as a CHD is already compressed - "Compressed Hard Disk" image. The main roms stay zipped but the CHD's must not be For this you need the .DAT files for your particular version of mame - there are lots of places to find them and i think GameEx even installs the latest for you. Once you have these files you need to point GameEx to them in MAME config.

Loving this one Sir Draco! And i agree with ClassicGMR - some Floyd ambience would top it off nicely ofcourse we would have to do that part ourselves by ripping our own CD's - which shouldn't be a problem if you're a fan The only thing i think that would make it ever-so-slightly better and i don't think is possible is have the walking hammers animated in the bottom right corner! I think i asked sometime ago if we could have MNG as overlay and it's not possible? I suppose a GIF overlay would do it - but if your'e like me you probably steer well clear of GIF's of any kind

Hear, hear to that! Congrats!

I'm liking the 4.24 down to 2.62! That's quite a nice ratio and could probably save me around 100gb Thanks for sharing the info! What are you using to compress to .isz may i ask?

They are awesome! i want an iPhone just for the minicade now lol!

[GUIDE] Using Custom Menus
DazzleHP replied to DazzleHP's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
I got a sticky - wahoo thought i'd better add some tags while here, seeing as i forgot You're most welcome -
There is an option in MAME config section "Only existing roms" - change this to Yes then load GameEx - go into MAME and choose "Update List".
