  1. Sure make one! I'm considering my top ten right now of course they will all be shmups till i find the drive that has the whole set on it - it's under something, somewhere... If only mame ran DeathSmiles - i would destroy you guys on that maybe... hopefully. Definitely something to consider if it takes off - never used it but after a quick browse it does seem to be all about anti-cheats - good call -EDIT- haha @ Draco!
  2. +1 to this - and thanks for reporting back your findings! Great work.
  3. Hmmmmm OK, the only other advice i can personally can give is try a different renderer or try the .cdi (dreamcast) version. Failing that you might want to try the Makaron emulator as people have had far more success running Capcom Naomi titles through that. You can then use the "Group" feature in GameEx to put MVC2 back into your Naomi list Have a little patience though as someone else may chime in - i've not used Dreamcast or Naomi for a few months so i'm a bit rusty
  4. I'm with you on this! A little friendly rivalry does make score attacking much more fun I get tired of beating myself (no i don't mean self harming ). If you are willing to organize something for us Exer's i say go for it! I mean there is always that possibility people could cheat, but honestly if it's just a friendly competition to enhance our gaming experience, and people still feel the need to cheat then i suggest said person(s) have personal issues and should maybe consider talking to someone about them I could record my runs if people took it too seriously but i think a screenshot of the hiscore table would suffice. Either way, cheaters or not, if you want to start something then count me in! I only have shmups on my system at the moment though heheh
  5. Hi kannadav, Try this: Go into your nullDC Naomi> LST directory and find "Marvel vs. Capcom 2.lst", copy this to where your mvc2 image is & rename it the same, then launch using the .lst file. This is all i have as i'm not using nullDC at the moment but if this doesn't work i'm sure someone with more experience with it will have more options to try Good luck!
  6. already ahead of you buddy i know i've yet to make my debut as an artist on these forums, partly coz i'm quite shy but mainly coz i'm a perfectionist lol but i've quite the experience trying to create good looking boot screens using only 16 colors you think something looks good until you reduce it to 4-bit depth lol i was even thinking about making another guide at somepoint involving InstantSheller and creating the "Boots" hehe we'll see huh.
  7. You can use any boot screen you like! It must be 640x480 and 4-bit (16 colors) it's important you make sure first! (if it is not just one of these requirements you could mess your system!) Once you are absolutely sure it is 640x480 and only 16 colors, then name it "boot.bmp" and overwrite the one in the IntsantSheller folder, then run InstantSheller again
  8. Hi bearzilla, InstantSheller will only use the boot screen (the 640x480 one) then boot straight into whichever application you select as shell. This is the intended behaviour and therefor does not use the "load" screen as it is part of Windows. The animation or "loading bar" (which is what the script file you downloaded is likely for) is not used either - most likely because it would obscure the view of your custom boot screen, and everyone's will be different, ruining the effect of disguising Windows in the first place InstantSheller is intended to be exactly that - an instant shell with no bells 'n' whistles, to just get the job done. If you really want a loading animation and the second load/login screen then you will probably have to do things manually using guides around the net. Be warned though as InstantSheller is deceivingly simple to use, what it actually does under the hood can be dangerous if attempted manually without knowing exactly what you are doing. If you go this route, read, research and do it all again 3 more times before even contemplating it Daz
  9. Hi buster, Try using GameEx's own launch settings: In the SetupWizard go to Tweaks/Performance, find "Launch on Startup" and enter the path to your volume app Good luck!
  10. Hi lamerjack, InstantSheller is intended for systems that will not likely be used as a desktop very often (if at all) and therefore the changes are permanent. You'll need to run it again to get your desktop back. This is what "shelling" (in basic terms) is - removing the UI so effectively GameEx becomes the OS
  11. Hi GC , Most (modern) GPU's will have a "keep aspect ratio" setting somewhere, which will keep all programs/software at 4:3 ratio - IF they are set to 4:3 natively. For instance with ATI cards: Launch Catalyst, go to the monitor section> Attributes> Select "Enable GPU scaling" > Select "Maintain aspect ratio". Nvidia cards will have a similar setting. Bare in mind this won't keep a 16:9 program within the 4:3 boundaries - it will just make sure things that are supposed to be 4:3 stay at 4:3 Of course if you really wanted to keep widescreen software within a certain boundary (ie a bezel) then you could always use the built in "trim" settings on most monitors. Not very practical though in my opinion. I'm also interested how Mr Gildahl does this. But that's my two cents till we are enlightened Daz
  12. Hi Twinbee, the only error i see in your log is your MAME path seems to be incorrect: 22:52:51.5 8/4/2013: MAME Path is: C:\Emulators\Mame32 22:52:51.5 8/4/2013: Cannot Find MAME Path: MAME Disabled You may want to double check your paths. I'm not sure why this would stop GameEx loading entirely but after finding a similar issue someone else was having where incorrect paths were the culprit, it might be a good place to start In post #6 of that thread the OP reveals that somehow two GameEx.ini's were on his system - might want to rule that out too.
  13. I would like give some info regarding Touhou Project if i may. This is a tricky one to categorize as Touhou 1-5 are actually only available for the PC-98 and therefore require an emulator (usually Anex86). Touhou 06 to present are just normal .exe's though and can be launched like any other PC game (using .lnk's etc). That info may have made things more complicated, but at least now you know
  14. I missed this when you first posted! I am now enlightened though and i have to say bravo for fitting all that in there! The top panel grill actually looks pretty cool since you did a good job of it. And congrats for getting featured
  15. Hi zeenon, for your information "mingw64-w64" is for compiling 64bit MAME so you are correct in using the 32bit version. Did you remember to do #7 this time round? and before you did #8? I know i'm just pointing out the obvious but we've all been here - we think we have done it all correct, but still get errors Also as Krakerman said, always start with a fresh folder structure each attempt, (re-install/extract everything) to avoid leaving any rogue files by accident. If it makes you feel any better it always takes me 2-3 tries - and i've been doing it a few years lol!
  16. Great blog Sir! So much detail, so informative - and your cab is a beeeeauty! I would be a very proud man indeed to be able claim that as my own. Thanks for sharing with us Gildahl
  17. Try enabling audio in preview videos: Go to Audio Settings in the Setup Wizard, change "Enable audio in snap/preview videos" to Yes. OR change this line in your GameEx.ini: AVIAudio=False to AVIAudio=True then File> Save.
  18. I also believe, and i've dabbled with Custom Menu's quite a bit, that what you're asking for at this present time cannot be done. You'll always need a top level Menu, unless you select "Gamelauncher" from Interface Mode - which will just give you one massive list with no control over it. Damon asked a very similar question recently and nullPointer's response is probably the best that can be offered at the moment. As for #2 question i back Draco's reasoning The only problem i can see that you may have is spinning that wheel as fast as you can a genuine spinner! (you may wanna keep your digits clear while attempting such a feat! )
  19. Capcom's Panta Rhei Engine Showcase - Deep Down Gameplay Demo Rumored as a PS4 launch title is Deep Down. Again this is all real-time, only here we have actual gameplay! Check out that fire being generated - WOW! http://youtu.be/VXAa5TCrUfM Watch Dogs Gameplay Demo I'm not sure which engine this one uses, i'll have to do some more digging but either way it will be released on PS4 (and probs 720) and is actual gameplay from start to finish. Enjoy! http://youtu.be/FcMRkyoHKeA So that concludes my teaser, i hope it sparked some interest in some of you. I may be back with more
  20. Hi folks, While i think we are all retro gamers here to some degree, it's why we are here, some of us are still young enough (just ) to still be enthusiastic about new tech and are eagerly awaiting the next generation of (console) hardware to be released. I bracketed "console" because the PC equivilant has been around a for while now. Well, the future is nigh people and it is both good news for console gamers getting fed up with 8yr old tech & PC gamers - you'll soon be able to push your super GPU's and justify the price tag you spent on them The new engines are looking impressive and i personally can't wait. This post is just a snippet of what i have found and so i am sharing with you, in the hope that one day i can no-scope snipe you in the face on Halo 7, or laugh hysterically as you eat my dirt in Gran Turismo 10 Enjoy. Unreal Engine 4 - Infiltrator Tech Demo This is a scripted real-time demo of Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4. Bare in mind this is a scripted sequence and practically no calculations are being processed. Nonetheless it is still being generated in real-time! http://youtu.be/8v3GA9jSasQ Square Enix's Luminous Engine - Final Fantasy Tech Demo Again, another scripted sequence showing off Square's new Luminous engine. As before this is being generated in real-time!! http://youtu.be/3QO9HyGEoYI cont...
  21. rtkiii has already gone ahead and made his request - why not head on over and give your +1 (click on "Like This"). Of course nothing is guaranteed as it is solely that - a request, but you never know, if enough people like an idea it may get some attention. It can't hurt to show your support for an idea, maybe even make your own post elaborating as you did here These kinds of things will just get lost in the general forum as staff (quite rightly) concentrate on troubleshooting & helping people with problems
  22. Sounds like a great idea! I'd back this You could then spawn lists for categories like say "Top 10 Shmups" etc. It may have even been mentioned before for all i know but just in case, you might like to head on over to the Feature & Enhancement Request thread and make your idea formal - before it gets lost in the vast ocean that is the general forum
  23. I've said it before and i'll say it again (and again and again...) +1 to Xpadder! While i wouldn't disagree with Krakerman, Pinnacle is a great mapper and it does have a pretty GUI - but that is all it has over Xpadder - eye candy, sorry Krak . Xpadder can do pretty much anything you want it to and once you have your initial profile setup it takes literally seconds to map all your buttons. Another thing to consider is pricing: Xpadder - £4.99 PGP -£16.40 (roughly, it's actually $25 on their site with no option to show GBP) PGP does have a trial though as Krakerman said and Xpadder does not, but at £4.99 you can't go wrong trust me on this. I believe in supporting the little guy too which is another reason to go Xpadder if you feel the same Of course this is all just personal opinions and preferences and in the end it's entirely up to. One more: +1 to Xpadder! -EDIT- and of course! as Draco said - Adultery's plugin makes Xpadder setup within GE child's play!
  24. Hi GC, i might have noticed something - it may be nothing, but it seems from glancing at it that you have a rogue empty menu in your CustomMenu.ini: [ROOT]Title=MameItem_1=1,Mame,3,MAMEItem_2=Item_3=Item_4=Item_5=Item_6=Item_7=[MENU_2] }THISTITLE=ARCADE Item_1=Item_2=Item_3= }BITThis might be causing the weird "seeing the same screen twice" thing. Try commenting-out that whole section to see what happens. I may be way off here lol but it can't hurt to try right
  25. Hi dave38 and welcome! That disclaimer was probably for a particular release of the drivers. I remember around that time, before i even joined GE that AMD released a particularly bad set of drivers that caused problems with many programs and games, not just GE. I have an HD5750 and GE runs perfectly smooth on highest settings, I'm sure there are many others here using ATI cards too (i can't be the only one surely!). I would say go for it!
