So you can't just encase a line of code that makes your wrapper force a ZiNc game list? That was gonna be my next question...

I have to agree and recommend a refurb for starters. Mine's been a playable WIP for at least a year now, and it's still costing me an arm and a leg. The internal parts (wiring, installing the board / speakers / switches / etc) is the easy part. I just think the carpentry sucks. Little things will really add up on you fast - extra buttons, coin door (as you mentioned), bezels, marquee (if you like a custom one that'll be about $200 for an attractive one), have you seen what they want for a friggin trackball? Sheesh! I got the cab I'm working on for next to nothing, but the project's well over $700 already... And that doesn't count the external hard drives and such. Your first cab is definately a learning experience, that's for sure! I bet Emph is right - keep in mind after you build this one you're gonna want to build a better one.

Here's the diagnosis... I got hyper athlete to run at full speed with no problems (other than lack of sound which I'm okay with). However, I still can't get Powerful Baseball or Wedding Rhapsody to play at all with either renderer. Maybe 5 minutes isn't long enough to decompress the CHD? I can't say. But Hyper Athlete has a CHD too and I can run that like nothin. What do ya think?

FileSend is down or something. I can't get to the download.

Love the new Folders feature of GameEx, but I wasn't crazy about how they were displayed. So I went and made some one-dimentional folders, meaning all games are in the root folder so GameEx displays the folder name as the list name. (ie 'Quiz Games.ini' is displayed in GameEx as 'Quiz Games' and so forth. Make a folder somewhere for these, open up the Configuration Wizard, and set a path to the extracted zip under Basic MAME Settings. Finally, you need to update your MAME game list. Then... Viola! You have some new folders. Included in the zip are: Casino Games Fighters Platformers Sports Shooters Racing Games Casino Games Maze & Puzzle Games There's 16 folders all together, including a MAWS Top 100 MAME Games folder and a MAWS Hall of Fame folder. If things go down where I have the ability to do so, I will then make some more MAME 'M' logos for the individual folders to suppliment the existing set... I think that would make GameEx really pop, don't you? All the games are current for MAME 0.111 and should work just fine. If you think I missed a game, let me know. Enjoy! .: EDIT :. I made some icons for these folders. They won't show up in GameEx (yet?) but I thought if on the chance that changes I'd show you what I meant by folder icons. I also have a matching MAME icon set (same font and outline)... Just in case.

I know the folder icons aren't supported, but does GameEx look to a png in the logos folder to display like it does for the other lists?

Tried the standalone for Wedding Rhapsody and Powerful baseball and got an error... did I miss another readme? .:EDIT:. Never mind. I got it running now. Seems to be taking a long time to load... but I'm assuming this is the CHD. I'm trying it out now. .:EDIT #2:. I can get Powerful Baseball to launch properly, but then it goes to a black screen. If I kill Zinc_Launcher.exe in the task manager, it falls back to GameEx. After exiting GameEx, I find ZiNc running in the background... which leads me to believe that the game is running but I can't see it. Not sure...

Amen to that! I can't wait to load in my folders I made for MAME32 oh so many months ago...

Completed Feature Requests (Moved)
Adultery replied to jr9770's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
@ Evilforces: I can imagine the bad things that would happen as a result of this feature, Evil... My wifey gets mad at me for something and 10 years of ROM set collecting goes right down the toilet. I gotta vote against this personally. -
@ NOLOGIC: Nice find Nologic. I was using 3.7.8 for a while, but there were issues with trying to disable that using the script that I run to kill it. I rolled back to the last stable version I was using (3.7.4) but it seems the bug was addressed and removed. Trying it now. Thanks again! @ EMPH: I don't know what PPJoyKey is... Is it a keyboard-to-joypad converter of some sort?
-
My fault. Everything's peachy.
-
Awesome! Will they be following the MAME32 standard as far as icons go? Meaning within the mame folder you create you can also specify an icon...
-
By the by... I still can't get my Tekken titles to launch. I used to be able to launch them and not move... Now I can't get them to launch at all. I get a "ZiNc.exe - Memory can not be 'read" yadda yadda yadda" window.
-
It works AWESOME! Thanks a heap Nologic! This is so great! Thanks a million!
-
Can you get GameEx to send the ROM path and ROM file into the wrapper? Or am I confusing my logic here? .: EDIT :. I have loaded it as a standalone emulator for now, but a fix to this issue would be awesomeness.
-
I'm lost here. I'm trying to set this up with GameEx and launch it under the MAME menu for Advanced MAME Settings. I am unable to do this?
-
Is there a command-line argument to drop the Winterbast plugin and load the keyboard on a game-by-game basis? I don't wanna move my CHD files over until I know this will work,
-
Cool! I hated that game so much, but it's cool to get to know the steps taken to create it. The thread is way better than any stuffy old interview.
-
You have games compressed into individual .7z files? I think that feature is only set to work if GoodMerge is also enabled... Maybe I'm wrong?
-
.: EDIT :. It's come to my attention that Vimm's Lair is down anyways. Try going to replacementdocs.com instead. They have Vimm's manuals and a ton more! Systems included are... PC 3DO Amiga Amstrad AppleII Atari 2600 Atari 5200 Atari 7800 Atari ST CD-i Commodore 64 Dreamcast Game & Watch GameBoy GameBoy Advance Game Gear Game Cube Genesis INTV Jaguar Lynx Macintosh N-Gage NES SNES N64 DS PS1 PS2 PSP Saturn Sega CD Master System Tiger LCD TG16 VIC-20 Virtual Boy XBOX ZX Spectrum Pretty comprehensive collection if ya ask me!

You and me both buddy!

I just snagged GameEx 7.51 and I see there's a game manual viewer plugin, so I wanted to offer a link to a massive collection of game manuals you can all play with. Have fun with that! Vimm's Lair - Game Manuals

If I was to try to figure this out, I'd need to also launch joy2key and terminate it when zInC exits (I think... Not positive however.) The problem seems to me that the Namco System 11 games have a completely different setup and need their own controls. I mapped joy2key so it supports the S11 setup on the keyboard, but without a LaunchBefore= and LaunchAfter= for zInC in the MAME menu, I can't do this. I'm sure there's a way to make a bat file that loads both, but how do I launch the killjoy2key Auto-IT script using the bat file? So... Long story short is that other than setting up zInC as a seperate emulator, I can't get System 11 controls to work properly.

I've got it running correctly... Give me a sec to look into this. .: EDIT :. I just played Rival Schools to make sure everything works and it does. I have a controller.cfg set up and zinc.exe is running without any command line arguments. Here's what it looks like: [general] ;file to output controller messages and errors output="c:\wbout.txt" ;indicate if controller will fail or not if a config error occured noerror=1 ;the order of controls : ; ZN1 : 6 btns ; S11 : 11 btns + 2 special btn (see below) ; KN1 : 2 btns ; RZ : 3 btns ; codes are : ; k'hexcode' for keyboard (see dik_code.txt for a list of keys) ; j'joystick number' followed by b'button number' for button or 'up', 'down', 'left, 'right' for pad ; examples : ; k1f for key S ; j2b3 for joy 2 button 3 ; k0 for no key ; combos : ; you can define up to 32 combos ; combos are available for every player ; syntax is : ; d down ; u up ; r right ; l left ; s start ; b1 button 1 ; .... ; bn button n ; , is the separator for each frame ; ; to map an input key for a combo, put ;c'combo number in combo list'=code ; see below for examples [combos] ;hadoken from left 1=d,,dr,,rb3 ;hadoken from right 2=d,,dl,,lb3 [all] ;F3 test=k3d ;F2 services=k3c ; for S11 works well with tekken2, souledge ; seems btn1 to btn8 do nothing ;[player1] ;coin=k02 ;start=k06 ;right=kcd ;left=kcb ;down=kd0 ;up=kc8 ;btn9=k20 ;btn10=k21 ;btn11=k22 ;btn12=k2e ;btn13=k2f ; S11 keys are : ; 1 ; 5 ; rightarrow ; leftarrow ; downarrow ; uparrow ; btn 1 to 8 : none ; D ; F ; G ; C -> tekken 2 kick 1 ; V -> tekken 2 kick 2 / souledge block [player1] ;example for ZN1 player 1 with joy1 ;useMM=1;allow player 1 to use WinMM joystick instead of DirectX coin=j1b10 start=j1b9 right=j1right left=j1left down=j1down up=j1up btn1=j1b4 btn2=j1b1 btn3=j1b7 btn4=j1b3 btn5=j1b2 btn6=j1b8 c1=j1b5 c2=j1b6 [player2] ;example for ZN1 player 2 with joy2 coin=k03 start=k07 right=j2right left=j2left down=j2down up=j2up btn1=j2b1 btn2=j2b2 btn3=j2b3 btn4=j2b4 btn5=j2b5 btn6=j2b6 c1=j2b7 c2=j2b8 ;example for KN1 with joy1 ;[player1] ;coin=k02 ;start=k06 ;right=j1right ;left=j1left ;down=j1down ;up=j1up ;btn1=j1b1 ;btn2=j1b2 ;example for RZ with joy1 ;[player1] ;coin=k02 ;start=k06 ;right=j1right ;left=j1left ;down=j1down ;up=j1up ;btn1=j1b1 ;btn2=j1b2 ;btn3=j1b3 I'm not sure how I mapped them, other than I tried the setup in the configuration for your joystick. Like on my Playstation controller, I figured out b1 was the square(btn1=j1b1 or if it's second controller btn1=j2b1), and so on. I don't use the GUI so I don't know if that's helpful to you or not, I just feel that zinc.exe automatically loads the controller.cfg and renderer.cfg by default. If you don't have a controller.cfg you can copy mine, save it as controller.cfg from Notepad and change your buttons accordingly. I hope that's helpful. .: EDIT #2 :. I did some research and it appears there's a glitch with Namco games in 1.1 - I hadn't noticed before, but none of my Namco's are running properly...
