  1. @Tempest: The easiest way to ensure your file doesn't get written over is to make it a read-only file.
  2. Not really... When I wrote the configs I was using bliss32.exe I think because it's a GUI version. Now I know my way around command line better I switched for the most part, but I never use that emulator so I never revised the config. I will fix that problem though! Sounds like all I need to do is change the command line in the config, but I want to make sure there's no command line switches I need to add (like overlays). .:EDIT:. I just sent the updated ini, so everything should be fixed soon.

    Speakers

I personally use 8 ohm speakers in my marquee. They're just like car speakers but use 8 ohms instead of 4. I have the sound card hooked up to an external amplifier, and I can control the volume from the receiver/amplifier with a remote. It sounds great, especially with the subwoofer I put behind the cabinet. I also rigged up a panel so I can hook up my PA speakers to it if I wanna blow some walls down. All this was done with cheap parts at your local Radio Shack for under $25 in cables and wire. How much you spend on the reciever is up to you.
  4. I can fix the command line in the INI without much issue. However, I use bliss32.exe instead of bliss.exe so I'll have to get it running first. I'll get back to you on this one.
  5. @ Shawnopp: You just don't understand the whole story. That's all. You're turning this into something personal and it doesn't have to be. I love all you guys, Nologic included. There's been a falling out over something, and you're throwing stones at Ben and Tom for doing what had to be done to preserve order in this forum. You can resent everyone for what has happened, but I feel it's time to forgive and forget. If you want to lay the blame on the two coders who make GameEx a working app, that's up to you. Please don't point fingers at people until you can see and understand both sides. @ Everyone else: Let's not forget why we're all here, and that's our love of GameEx. No one of us treats Ben or Tom like they're gods, but we have a job to do here: Preserve order. This forum rises above this kind of drama time and time again. The honest truth is this: Nologic hurt the community when he pulled his scripts and artwork, it was all his decision. It didn't have to end like that, it just did. We all decided it's his last wish to pull his stuff, and we are honoring that wish as a way of respecting him for what he gave us. There was no legal obligation to do so, but we did it anyway. I respect Nologic a lot, but he has to abide by the rules just like Brian, HK and I do. He crossed the line, made some personal remarks, and he was banned indefinately. When he was asked to plead his case and got even more pissed about the whole situation, it just got totally out of control. We gave Nologic every last chance we could... I tried harder than I usually would to make it work on the sole basis that we're friends. He wanted to leave, and that's just all there is to it. He decided that before the attempt to reconcile was offered... He had his head set and there was nothing anyone could do to change that. I, for one, respect the decision that was made because I know the whole story. Once Nologic has had some time to cool off, he'll understand too. Everyone else needs to accept the fact that it happened and move on. For that reason, and because I hate to see the morale around here sink like the titanic... I'm locking this thread. Thanks for understanding, everyone.
  6. Honestly, I just got the Super Joy Box 5 a little while ago. This supports four PS2 controllers, and all four work fine. You should look into that, it wasn't expensive at all.

    Emumovies Help

I didn't realize the official DIVX codec had problems... I use it, but on Vista. My movies show just fine... but wait. Now that I think about it, I used DIVX to make my own movies. Nevermind me.
  8. I use IRC to keep up with PSP developments and get programming help on occasion... Oh, and to bitch at TOSEC. Heh heh... Kidding.
  9. I love GameEx because of the feeling I get when it's all set up, but mostly the nostalgia and remeniscing with my friends when I show them how to breathe new life into their old favorites. There's no better feeling than that! If I am chosen to win (which I doubt), I'll be giving away my license on CHQ when I relaunch it (which will be sooner than you think!) It'll kinda be like a grand re-opening of sorts.
  10. What, no love for TehSkeen? http://www.tehskeen.com/ Dark Alex is also the man, so I better offer him props too: http://www.dark-alex.org Let's not forget about Exophase: http://www.exophase.com Of course, there's ConfigHQ which is at the moment recieving a hefty behind-the-scenes update (which reminds me... I was gonna ask Tom for an interview for launch): http://www.hfc-essentials.net/gameex And, saving my absolute favorite for last... Mame list issue

Not sure about MAME but in other emulators you can remove the text in brackets... If I had GameEx with me here at work I could help you further. Unfortunately I don't, so you may want to look in Advanced MAME Settings and see if you can find this or a similar option. If not, you'll have to edit the MAP file directly I think. Not sure about that...
  12. SMS DB works okay for me too, and my setup is very similar to yours. What resolution are you running GameEx at? What theme are you using?
  13. Wow! Very cool! I just saw it in Demo mode and now it all makes sense. Very nice feature!
  14. Hello! I was digging around in my artworkgameex folder, and I happened to see '88 games had some GameEx generated artwork. I know this game doesn't use a bezel or an overlay, so I looked inside the zip and found this png file: I've run the game to see the overlay GameEx made, but it doesn't show up. What is this for and how does this work? Thanks!
  15. Not sure if it helps you out any, but here's how mine is set up: -skip_gameinfo -triplebuffer -nowindow -joy -video d3d -filter -cheat I need to remove the -skip_gameinfo option since I used HK's compiler to build MAME and the intro screens have all been removed anyway... Hope that helps ya!
  16. Of course, a log file would be helpful if that doesn't work...
  17. Sweet! Just what I was looking for! Thanks, HK!
  18. Each one is for a different console. Look for the one called PC Games.
  19. I do now! Never even noticed... I was playing SFIII - 3rd Strike just a few minutes ago... Is there another one I missed? Or is this a different one? Can't believe I didn't notice that! It's still on the Live page! .:EDIT:. Wow! I'm missing two SFIII ROM sets! Awesome! Wonder what else I'm missing out on?

    Bezel Question

You can use mine, I think they're more or less the same (except the purple background is removed to suit my cab better). Just extract them to your GameEx program folder and overwrite the old ones. Also be sure to set up a new folder for the Artwork directory under MAME Settings in GameEx. You'll want to point it at an empty folder instead, or the old bezel will pop up for any games you may have run before. Hope that helps!
  21. It's in GameEx. I think it's the third page in Advanced MAME Settings. .:EDIT:. Yeah. Advanced MAME Settings, third page, second option down. It reads 'Dont Filter These Roms'. Here's my list with Tetris Grand Master already included: pacman;splatter;tmnt2;tgmj;sfiii;sfiii2;sfiii3You can just copy that line exactly and you'll see it when you update the MAME list. You can add others by seperating each ROM name with a semicolon: ; <---semi-colon Hope that helps! .:EDIT:. Updated to include the SFIII sets - I think you need the CHDs for those though...
  22. The way most of us do it is to select an empty emulator setup. Make a folder that contains .lnk files (or shortcuts) to your PC games. Point GameEx at your shortcut folder and IMPORT the PC Games INI. You rename the videos to match the shortcuts you made, and point GameEx at that folder. If you wanna go all out, you can also put cover scans, disk scans, and whatever else you got. Just make sure you name everything appropriately! GameEx will then launch the shortcuts you made as an 'emulator', and your game should run fine. However, if you need to use the CD to launch the game, it gets a little messier.
  23. You sure its not the GL renderer causing you greif? I had to change to D3D when I was having this issue. Try running a D3D game and see if everything works or not.
  24. Exactly!
  25. Hello! I was looking to add some extra authenticity for my kids to enjoy my cab, so I want to invest in some coin doors for my WIP cab. Good idea or no? Is there a way that I could get them set up so it makes a sound when a quarter is dropped in? I don't really want to require quarters to operate the game, but I do want the effect. You know what I mean? Like, say, my kid can drop in a quarter and hear a sound when it happens, but that would have nothing to do with actual credits themselves... It'd be like a glorified piggy bank without any actual incentive to add quarters. Here's the type of coin door I will be looking at purchasing: link Only difference would be I wanted a four coin door instead of a two. The space is already there (it's an old refurbished NBA Jam TE cab). Ideas? Criticisms?
