I don't mind the extra steps. Gimme GUI!

Wishing you the best! Mike

I would probably look at some of the existing DBs we have available as a model for continuity and consistency.
-
Mike - that is awesome! I do this kind of support for a living so probably should have asked "when did you last reboot the machine?" I will be adding this to my "list" from now on for here. We all learned something positive so no harm, no foul, no time wasted. Again, welcome!

And may as well rekey the car and the house so only one key needed for EVERYTHING! j/k as always!

Check out this font and let me know what ya think. SInce the font is not solid lines like most others, it should appear transparent in that it will have spaces through which the background will appear. -
As Adultery says - Awesomesauce!

Dang, dude. How much power is that beast sucking up?

Draco1962 replied to mesk's topic in Social Club
I still need to finsh the first two Assassin's Creed games before I start on Brotherhood (got it, tinkered, but need to go back and learn the basics). The only game I have really been playing as of late is "Break Out the GIMP and Create Another New Theme" (CAUTION! SHAMELESS PLUG AHEAD). I have a small mokcup of what to expect in the Themese thread on the Pinned Topics subforum. Let me know whatcha think and any feedback/suggestions welcome! -

Cabirus - sorry about that, will get Tom to delete it so I can upload a new file with the theme.ini included. In the mean time, please download the attatched theme.txt , rename it to theme.ini and install. (My original post alos has the file attached). Adultery - Glad ya like it! I can't lay claim to other than being a good scrounge on the web! All - Let me know what ya think of this for a theme and provide some suggestions as to layout etc. it is a partial mock-up of the 1920x1080 of a theme I am working based upon the RTG4 PC Game "Sins of a Solar Empire." The intent is to give it the feel of HUD displays from a battle deck terminal. The Scroller text Text will display in the upper left border. The window displayed will be the Program List with list 1 and 2 in the spaces provided below. There will be 2 other windows similar to the List window; one with Program/game Snaps and flyers/cabs.the 3rd, smaller window will display date, time, and weather. Each major app/emu category will have an icon assigned on the respective list window in the upper right (and, of course will show in the Snap window). Of course, the control panel at the bottom does not function, but will have program/emu icons showing for some of the contents within the main category, etc. Needless to say, this will be a grand undertaking as I will be creating many custom menus, buttons, snaps, etc. Likely I will create the menus for the major systems and let the snap display the specific Game System icon. This will cut down on the turnaround time considerably. theme.txt -
From what I have seen, the Happ with plastic internals is probably the easiest to manufacture a shoot that will accept any denomination and detect it to trigger a coin insert response. Why couldn't my dad have made me a piggy bank like this? I'd be a gazillionaire by now!

Upo, you may just want to do a web search to see what you come up with. It sounds like you may have a coin comparitor. This would require some sort of modification (for some, it is a simple as inserting a coin into the comparitor like the one you desire to use and the comparitor detects coins passing through based on the coin you provided as a template. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any way to do this and, likely, you may have to check with the manufacturere's site to see if they can provide a means of making such modifications to your hardware.

Mike - thanks for answering. We have to ask these questions as some of us have gone down the path only to find out that the OS was being run on another system (Linux or Mac) or a virtualized environment and there was no way to remedy those types of issues when the conflict imay be caused by the true OS or drivers that are other than Windows or, a pirated copy of same. We will continue to see what we can determine. What I would like to ask you to do for right now on the Media Center PC is go into the Advanced Configuration for GameEx and, under Display Settings disable Hide Desktop by changing Hide Operating System to No, then save the change. Let me know if you see any error messages or prompts (from GameEx or otherwise). Another place for possible clues may be under Event Manager. Note the time you tried to run GameEx and review the event logs to see if anything is notable for that same time. Let us know if anything is pre-loading when you launch Windows and, if so, what? As you can imaigine, it is difficult to diagnose another's PC or software issue when not involved with the setup or hands-on in front of the PC.

LOL! Um no, If I had a TIme MAchine you would not see me here as I would have absconded with the winning Megamillions numbers and been wealthy enough to pay the neighbor's kid to do all of this for me while sipping Tequila Sunrises in my infinity pool overlooking the Pacific in Maui.

True enough - but still think it could be it's own rule or or an expansion of 5 (got a grip on this thread like a pitbull with rabies!) which I would be comfortable with. Even if it isn't, I think that is going to generate one of the first questions with which I will answer the question: "Have you contacted the program's author(s) via forum or directly for the permission to perform the act you are requesting?" followed by "Can you provide us verifiable proof that this is acceptable with them? Do you mind if we contact them ourselves to verify this is valid?" and lastly, "If you have permission to do XYZ, then why don't you ask them how to do it instead of coming to a fourm for another programmers work of love and fun to ask how to do it?" I could go on and on (and you know it!)... Kidding aside, I know that some emus authors don't care or even go so far tas to show you how to do it. Since Chris a a freelance programmer, I definitely understand why he would not.

Not a problem and glad to help! It would be nice if we can delete or suppress the contact links off of their profiles so that a: They are not getting the traffic counts or worse by those accessing their spam sites so that curious users are further protected from their own actions or that the individual continues to profit from their contact via GameEx.

Was not aware of what happened there and there lies the answer! I don't have as much problem with the load screen (just ifgured it was part of the program and "lived" with it" I suppose). To be honest, I did not even give it a second thought but I can understand the author's concerns about his software being hacked or modded in such a way. Are there any similar issues with other emus that we should be aware of so that proper direction can be given to those that ask? Might be a good thing to add to the Forum Rules and , perhaps, between rules 5 and 6, such as "Do not ask how to hack or remove emulator start, donation request, or 'nag' screens or any other functionality as the emulator is property of its respective owner(s) and such questions should be directed within their forums or to the author(s) for their comment or permission." This would remove any doubts as the question asked would hardly fit withn a grey area of the rules currently present. As usual, my two cents!
-
I'm not so certain I like your response, Mr. Celly! Would be nice if it could be setup to display a "Now Loading" screen of one's creation to at least unify things if not able to mute the display entirely.
-
What coin mech are you using? You might try a web search based upon the mech you have installed.
-
I have a similiar problem with FPB. I wonder if one of our Autoit or other script gurus could create a loader that will suppress the display for the program or if one of the existing loaders could be adapted for the purpose?
-
I noticed the same thing. Because of some of the changes from the first set of files to the next, I was wondering if he might be just tossing stuff in the paths to see if we were awake and "really" looking at things when we ask for them. Not that anyone would intentionally toy with us that way. MikeP - did you purchase your copy of Win XP Media Center? I ask because you noted that you just installed it. That version of XP was only available for Media Center machines as part of an OEM purchase of a pre-built media center PC (although some retailers skirted that avenue by requiring the purchaser to buy a motherboard or a hard drive along with their copy). If you obtained it through other than the channels above, then it is possible that the copy you have is not clean or complete in some way that it is interfering with the proper function of the program. Anything you can provide here may be helpful to us. If you are running the OS on a Linux box (via Wine) or Mac OSX (via Bootcamp),or within a virtualized environment, that would be good to know as well.

I trust ya! To be honest I don't have much knowledge of it as I do not use that feature myself and the neighbors with dogs thank me for it! I haven't seen much talk about it in the forums, but maybe Tom or someone that has can shed a little light our way.

We were at the beach Everybody had matching towels Somebody went under a dock And there they saw a rock It wasn't a rock It was a rock lobster

Mike - will be glad to address your issues, however, I don't think you will find an author that does more "out of the box" testing of his programs than the one for GameEx. I had tinkered with this program and a few others including "kicking the tires" on the respective forums for almost a year before making the leap. Trust me, you will not find better than Tom when it comes to supporting and testing this frontend, nor will you find a better forum for support. In addition to the author, myself and a few others have multiple machines from which we attempt to recreate the issues the forum members run into in our best effort to communicate a resolution or workaround. Yours is defintiely outside of the norm for an initial install. My guess from what I am seeing is that the issue is not with GameEx. While it should work with XP Media Center Edition, there is something else going on here that I can't quite put my fingers on just yet. I would recommend that you install it on another PC (say, one running XP Home or Pro) to see if you run into the same results. I have a laptop with XP Home installed and just ran a new installation (GameEx has never been installed on this machine and it is a single core Intel P4 processor with only 512MB RAM. Absolutely no probelms - hits the nag, waits for a few (normal) then right into the program from there. I understand if you haven't the time to mess with what I am suggesting. My guess is that you will possibly run into issues with whatever program you choose, if not on install, further along, until you make the time to resolve whatever is causing this issue. Regards, Draco
