  1. Refer to my previous post. It is the hi-score file that enables hi-scores keeping for some games as well as removes the nag screens. I think if you go ahead and compile 0.141 with the hi_score.txt file noted, you will be in good shape.
  2. You'd probably be fine with either XP or 7. I find Windows 7 64-bit to be faster and better at memory management than XP. So long as you turn of the Aero eye candy you would be fine on that system. The main thing I would be concerned with going the 7 route is the video dirvers for that card. Make sure that drivers exist for it (32-bit and 64-bit) before going through the trouble to install 7.
  3. I wouldn't be worried about it. AGP is usually fine so long as the aperture settings in BIOS settings meet the manufacturers recommendations. I think Tom needs to know if you are running any backgournd, vids, does this happen in windowed mode?
  4. 0.141 is the latest - no diffs for that build yet. .diff files are interim updates to the current build. You can use that source code and also download the hi_141.txt to enable hi scores and remove nag screens. You will just skip Step 5 instructions for Headkaze's compiler for obtaining and placing the .diff files.
  5. Very nice indeed! I feel humbled. I look forward to "kicking the tires" on it when released - good work!
  6. To tag on what bkenobi just said, you can simplify the compiling proce by using Headkaze's Mame Compiler. This GUI does all the command line stuff for you, you just have to obtain the MAME source and .diff files and move a few folders. If you follow the instructions to the letter and in the correct order, you can compile the most recent version of MAME or MAMEUI (GUI version) that allows for Hi Score support and removes the ever-unpopular "nag" screens. Compiling my own version of MAMEUI64 and updating my ROM sets with CLRMAME Pro helped streamline my collection quite a bit and I soon found I had a few ROMs that did not work before working perfectly now. If you run into trouble along the way, just ask and one or more of us will be there to help (just as they have been there for me on my many "first times and not getting it right." Be prepared to provide error messages, etc. when reporting any problems.
  7. Since you are using onboard graphics, I would say Windows 7 Home 32 or 64-bit with Aero features disabled to get the best bang. I enable Aero on my system since it is my main desktop PC for the time being. But I am also running Win 7 64-bit with 8 GB Ram and an nVidia 512MB graphics adapter.
  8. I had posted a similar response to GoesTheBunnies a while back. You may need to look at your Bios for your video aperture settings. It may take a little " googling" to find how this should be set depending on your AGP video card and the amount of VRAM you have on it, but you may need to adjust the video aperture in Bios to make sure that you are not opening up too much for the data pipe to handle at once.
  9. What browser/version? I have had to work an some issues for my work clients with IE 8 due to old plug-ins/add-ons. When they reinstalled IE 8 compatible versions these resolved. Keep in mind that IE has more integration with Windows Explorer from XP forward but especially in Win Vista/7.
  10. Brokeh was one of my first themes for GameEx. I would not use that a good example of someone knowing what they are doing ! I have moved on worlds away from that theme, yet have a long way to go yet...
  11. Are you running InstantSheller and is GameEX set to Hide OS?
  12. Well, Kid, welcome you to the GameEx forums! I think you hit on why we have the types of users that keep coming back. Sure, there are frontends that will give you all the pretty eye candy you'll ever want. But is the genuine support and interest there to get you through the tough spots? Besides, I can create my own eye candy! I am currently working on my 5th or 6th theme now. I have begun to master GIMP (an open source image editing software similar to Photo Shop) because this program allows me to do so and is constantly imporved upon and continues to challenge me to do more with it. I have yet to master all it has to offer. I have a long way to go before I get all of the emus I have loaded up and running. I will have plenty of hiccups along the way. And I know that I can count on the friends I have made along the way here to help me get there.
  13. Not that I am a prude, but I think ti is time to move this thread to the social club forum for OT conversations.... Wubble - some of what I have seen on GameEx Live.. lets just say that there are just some things you cannot unsee no matter how hard you try.
  14. The internal screen saver is enabled under the advanced config. If GameEx is open, then it will default to that. If GameEx is not running, then whatever your WIndows screensaver will apply.
  15. Can you provide a copy of your log file, please? Preferably right afer the crash. Thanks!
  16. FEATURE REQUEST - Update scroller for Juke Box for controlled placement via Theme Editor.
  17. And you, sir, are correct in that I am correct! The only way I know is to delete the roms using the Delete Excluded Roms program as described by Tempest "This program will help you delete any/all roms from your emulators 'excluded roms' list. Run the program, and you will get a list of emulators that you have setup in GameEx, that are both enabled AND have romnames in the excluded roms list. I think that once that is run and the excluded ROMS deleted, then there should be no surprises when the external MAME screensaver activates (had to explain that to my wife that I am not into Oriental Mahjong Porn - dadnabit Hanafuda!
  18. The screensaver in Attract mode accesses those items labled as Favorites. The stand-alone screensaver loads from EVERYTHING! There is a utility that will delete all ROMs from your filtered list - use with appropriate caution (back up as always).
  19. That is AWESOME!
  20. Future Pinball Terminator 2 Table
  21. Have you checked through the plugins available on the website? If you can install an app or emu to run through Media Portal, then you should be able to integrate GameEx in some form or fashion - likely under "my programs". I would probably "search" through their forums using "GameEx" as the key word. SInce MP has been around 6+ years my guess it has been addressed there a time or two. Having seen the demos, MP seems to be quite impressive for Open Source. XBMC looks pretty good as well, without the higher-end PC requirements for running the client/server apps. For my immediate needs, will probably stick with MCE a while until I can get the kids out of the house and free up the cash to build a full-on media center server, etc. As usual - my 2 cents (if it were real money Tom could retire!)
  22. SOme of the content it is no proble - Steam is even nice enough to throw a loader at you for most of the games requiring DosBox. I know, for example,. that Alien Swarm appears to be totally dependent upon the Steam launcher. Others are hit & miss. The GameLauncher shell is not too bad for an alternative to setting up links individually for most PC games.
  23. LOL! Feel free to misspell mine anytime! "hukt on fonix werkt 4 mee!"
  24. fRequEncy - I saw on another thread that you had been playing Alien Swarm. Are you using the Steam launcher? I know that, with a little work, you can load some games that are purchased through Steam directly as opposed to using the launcher while otehrs are wrttten to be dependent upon it. I believe the same is true or some Impulse distros.
  25. And mine...
