Troy - I have not encountered this issue myself so cannot answer. Can you provide a copy of your log and gameex.ini files?
  2. GeorgeT: Not a problem - glad you got it resolved! Adultery: I will have to try that trick - thanks!
  3. Find below my log file - I have been using GameLauncher as previously noted to launch games from GameEx and have had no problems until now. The only problem is that I am not encountering the error consistantly on this or other apps. After updating toi 11.52 lastnight, I had one instance which caused the attract screensaver to hang (I had to go into Task Manager to close it out and restart GameEx).
  4. When most people were using XP 32-bit I don't think it was that much of a problem. With more and more migrating to Win 7 (or even relegating their previous Vista machines to function as cabs or HTPCs) running 64-bit versions it will become more apparent.
  5. It depends on how the games are obtained. Some (such as Angry Birds) are Flash ports and require a loader. I know that someone had a similar issue with some of the Steam games because o f the loader causing GameEx to lose focus after finishing the game. I recently posted in another thread regarding a program called GameLauncher (found here) that I have been able to run as an external application so that I do not have a large menu of games loaded as an emulator. It seems to perform very well for me, taking up very little memory and going back to GameEx after the game is over. I am not sure if it will help you with your immediate issue, GT, but worth a try. Might help to consolidate some of your games and, along with Adultery's suggestion might work pretty nice. A .lnk file is simply the Windows shortcut for the program it represents. It contains the executible's path, compatibility mode settings (if applicable), Icon assigned etc.
  6. Not sure if you can answer this or not, but many newer PC games have their own loader files that initiate when the games launch and will cause the PC to lose focus from GameEx to that loader. I believe that Bejeweled also has a preloader involved.
  7. Does GameEx install the 32-bit version? I wonder if this might need to be fixed to allow for selection of 32-bit vs 64-bit when opting to install the eBook Reader?
  8. I noticed that the excluded ROMs list still does not show up in the advanced config under Advanced MAME settings. Also, many games that I had excluded (hit Delete + Enter in GameEx) previously are now showing up in my list again.
  9. Let's try not selecting "Treat as one PC Game" for any of the PC or other games. That option is if you have an emulator with multiple games in a list and you are wanting to isolate one game from the list. IF you are launching standalone PC games you need not use that option.
  10. You are correct. It applies it to the excluded ROMs filter.
  11. Thanks, Tom! Also updating now. Updating the game list is taking longer like it used to, had noticed before it zipped through in 30 seconds or less Mesk: Index Finger + Delete Key = Mahjong Filter
  12. Did your sub short out the coin door again or is it worse?
  13. Even more information can be found here with some exerpts (with permission) from Ralph H. Baer's book "Videogames: In The Beginning." The picture of the Odyssee from E2M shows what appears to be Mr. Baer's autograph. What a nice momento to have!
  14. Would it be possible to add an option in the ROMs excluson to use the GameEx excluded ROMs list (from the GameEx.ini) and selection option to use from GameEx Favorites?
  15. Yves - try Ranzo's suggestion and let us know if that works for you or not.
  16. Tom - Another issue that I have noticed is within the Advanced Mame settings>Excluded ROMS. I went through my ROMS one by one and cleared out all the adult, almost all of casino games and almost all of the non-working ROMs, reducing my collection down from about 8700+ to 6652 ROMs. When I checked the Excluded ROMs section of Advanced Mame Settings in the Advanced Configuration, the field appears empty. I checked my Gameex.ini file and all that I "deleted" through GameEx are there. I believe there is a cap to the max number of excluded ROMs that will appear in the Advanced Config and was able to confirm this by deleting about 4/5ths of them from the .ini file, saving it and looking in the settings and they appeared. The good news is that they are preserved in the gameex.ini file. Is there a limit, however, as to how many the .ini file can support without causing some adverse effects?
  17. You are safe to delete any of the files that contain the word cache within the filename. These files will rebuild themselves as you use the program again.
  18. Can you provide a copy of the gameex.ini file? Have you tried deleting the cached files in the \DATA directory then restarting GameEx to see if this will resolve the issue?
  19. I am running on Win 7 64-bit as well. I will try to test over the next day or so and see if I come up with the same results. In the mean time, please post your gameex.ini and log file so we can take a look at settings, etc.
  20. We all start into this arena knowing very little. Some catch on quicker than others, while some need a little more time and hand-holding (REPRESENT!) to get comfortable with the apps and the various personalities. Tom and the mods have done a great job keeping things light and responsive. I've seen more and more people attracted to the software and the forums and I believe that the word is getting out about us. What good is all the eye-candy when an SRD shoots you down for asking a question? One thing I have noticed from a user standpoint - the more I step-up my game to help others and give advice, the more I notice others doing so. We might not always be right, but sometimes being willing is more important. To all, keep up the great work!
  21. I am bumping this thread again as I have noticed in the last few days several threads started all with regards to reporting the same issues (ROM Filters not working, Lists disappearing, Video playback issues, etc.), some for the same issue repeatedly by the same user. While I understand that when we have a problem arise with the functionality of something, we tend to see that as the most important thing to get resolved at the moment. Patience is at a low and there is interest in gettng it resolved because we are empassioned about the product and want it to work right again. All I am asking is that we all (myself included) try to exercise more patience with Tom and our fellow "resident experts" in the forums. Be thoughtful of others, the next person to logon, the newbies to the forum. Is it fair that they have to search through so many threads of the same issue being reported? Is it any more fair to Tom or the mods & gurus that they should have to answer the same questions several times in several threads, or have to cleanup and combine them into one useful thread? Use the tools that are available (Search, FAQs, How to Ask for Help and pinned submission links) to seek answers first. Then look to the threads to see if the issue has already been posted and add there. Look to the recent threads that show [RESOLVED] next to the title - your issue may already have a solution! Most of the time you know that you are going to be asked to provide a copy of your log file and/or gameex.ini file. Be proactive whenever possible. Try to provide them without having to be asked. Post a screen capture of what you are encountering if a visual bug if you can. Sometimes a picture can provide much information to suppliment the text description of the issue. Alrighty, I've said what was on my mind. SOAP BOX MODE [OFF]
  22. I think we are good to label this one [RESOLVED]
  23. LOL! It's all good. We all make mistakes... kinda makes successes that much sweeter, doncha think?
  24. Is your unattached garage going through the same electric meter or does it have its own? If on the same as the house, then still part of the house "grid." You will need one module for your router to plug into and one module to plug into a household electrical outlet at each location to connect into the network. P.S. You can't have 'em! PITAs that they are sometimes, not givin' 'em up!
  25. If you have the will and the ability, wired ethernet is probably a lot better and cheaper. if you ever upgrade from 10/100 to gigbyte it is just a matter of replacing routers and switches adn upgrading your NICs on connected devices to take advantage of the increased throughput. Ethernet over powerline does have some limitations. The further away from the source, the slower the throughout can be. Works best if on the same circuit - different circuits within the same dwelling again will affect throughput. It still seems be be much faster than wireless from the results I am getting within the same electrical circuit and will be fine when used in other parts of the house. Likely will use it in the living room for connecting the flat screen & DVD (kids bought us a 46" Samsung for Christmas and a Blu-Ray player to boot) for streaming Netflix and the like.
