  1. He is running XP SP3. It is possible that there could be an issue with recent "hot fixes" for XP SP3 that were initiated 6/16 per this TechNet article. Not that all hot fixes should be held suspect, but I have seen where a hot fix applied to a file that was previously installed incorrectly or not at all will cripple functionality of another application. This would probably be reaching as diagnosing OS issue without direct access to the system is problematic and vague at best.
  2. A reinstall may not be a bad idea. It appears from what you have posted that there are permissions issues preventing you from updating registry entries, etc. I am not sure that there is much anyone can do to resolve those types of issues as it then becomes a matter of troubleshooting the OS and not GameEx. If the reinstall does resolve the issue or you find a resolution in troubleshooting the OS, please let us know as this is something new to us and will help us to help steer someone else towards a resolve of their issue.
  3. I'd like to know what process logger you will be using as I have had a few hiccups on my end that I would like to investigate. If I can think of anything else for you to shoot down as a possible cause I will post it! The joys of troubleshooting from the 2nd person perspective!
  4. OK, one other thing - are any files being loaded from an external or secondary hard drive? If an internal secondary drive, make sure that there are no settings in Windows that would cause the drive to spin down after a certain amount of time and that indexing service is disabled for all drives. Both of these will cause latency. Not sure how you would control spin-down on an external drive. I may have better luck pissing on a spark plug, but wanted to make sure that was ruled-out as a possible cause.
  5. I'd be curious to see if there are any events showing in the diagnostic logs on the PC at about the time GameEx is loaded. There wasn't anything notable in the log file.
  6. Well, you have to change that - or at least setup an HTPC with GameEx! Welcome to the GameEx forum! Very cool remakes indeed! So when will Black Widow be completed?
  7. Are either of you using the "Pop-up Descriptions" option? If so, you may want to try disabling this option via the Setup Wizard under Display Settings to see if this speeds things up.
  8. I know you meant to hit the "C" instead of the "G" in spelling my name, right? I re-read his explanation and do not see this as possible without more extensive reworking of the Setup Wizard and GameEx as well. I offered a partial solution that would have all the Playstation emulators under one grouping. That is not to say that it might not be possible to meet closer to "half-way" by having GameEx display the emulator name as a selectable option under each emulator group so that it may display in the game info next to the Play Game option.
  9. Could this bug also cause the map files not to rebuild correctly for the other emulators? Let me know if you need anything else!
  10. Awesome - seems that this started roughly around 11.82 onward. Were you also able to replicate the issue with the order of data in the gameex.ini file for the emulators?
  11. Sprudel - please refer to the "How to ask for Help" link in my signature. You may want to zip together a copy of your gameex.ini and log.txt files and upload them in response.
  12. I think he was seeking clarification. If I understand correctly, you can use the ipac directly with whatever version of MAME you are using or "outside of GameEx." It is using it "inside" GameEx that you are not able to use the sticks. withing gameex\config path you can find the gameex.ini file. Under the gameex\log path you can find the log.txt file. Pl;ease zip these together and upload here so we can take a closer look.
  13. With the exception of telling you what emulator is being loaded for the game, using Emulator Groups does this for you.
  14. The numbering appears to be consistent between the custommenu.ini and gameex.ini but there are still other issues. My belief is that the issue is not with the custom menu but the gameex.ini itself. I've uploaded my latest custommenu.ini and gameex.ini files along with a screen image. I have also included a copy of the db I created. For whatever reason, it is not pulling the db name, just the "rom" name into the display. Additionally I have noticed that there are discrepancies in the way the information is ordered per emulator within the gameex.ini file. Could this be the cause of some emulators not opening upon clicking on them within the list or loading their logo files when highlighted within the list? When I review this gameex.ini file it is not clean and appears corrupt. Why would data pertaining to the Weather Icon be intermixed with the emulator data? Should not the data order be identical for each emulator? example.zip PC Z-Code Interactive Fiction.zip
  15. So far testing is going somewhat OK. I am having problems getting some emulators to access the category that were working before. I noticed that the Use DB Name option is still missing from the Advanced Emulator setup. My guess is that it has something to do with whatever is not allowing GameEx to recreate the emulator map and cache files if they are not showing in the Data directory. I had cleared them out previously as they had errant information once the emulator number sequences changed and they were not being overwritten when accessed afterward. I am at a loss for the moment.
  16. Anytime! Glad to be of help for someone today! So when are you going to submit the WOPR theme for competition? It is an awesome adaptation of the movie images and feel!
  17. Will take me a little time to test thoroughly but will get back to you with my results - thanks again!
  18. All is fine with your theme.ini settings. I think the issue is a change in the Unselected.png file located \Gameex\Themes\WOPR\Media folder. I recommend loading it into an image editor (Photoshop or GIMP or other editor that will allow you to work with layers and opacity. I loaded Default Dark Gloss as a Version 4 theme as it has the same color background for unselected list items. I then loaded the Unselected.png file into GIMP, added an alpha channel to the image (under Layers options) set the opacity % to 0%, saved the file. It now shows as the black background instead of dark blue. Just in case you do not have either of these programs, I am sending a copy attached to this post.
  19. Be glad to try to help. Can you provide me with a copy of your theme.ini file? Also, if you can screen capture may be helpful as well. If you are using a Version 4 theme, there is a setting under Options within Theme Editor that you can disable color key to allow for transparency.
  20. Since Safe Mode assumes Admin rights are enforce, I still feel that you may run into problems in the future. What OS are you using?
  21. Sounds like it isn't a matter of file or app open. Try right-clicking on the install.exe, if you see Run as Administrator, left-click that and try again. You may also want to zip and upload your gameex.ini file.
  22. Done - thanks for looking into this. I have confirmed that there are no apparent permissions issue preventing the update of the CustomMenu.ini file. GameEx (2).zip
  23. I put the menus manually to where they should be (within the Custom Menu App) after running the sort (By Category) with 2.4.1 (first spoiler entry). I then performed a sort via the Setup Wizard by Emulator (no change as noted in second spoiler entry, yet changed in gameex.ini).
  24. Here is my custommenu.ini before: Here is after sort by emulator: Doesn't match what appears in the setup wizard and appears the same as the original. Image matches with GameEx.ini as far as I can tell, however.
  25. I am not all that good, either. Just enjoy it as an alternative to explosions, zombies, evil hoards, etc.
