I installed PCSX2. It looks promising. I've got a bit of a headache tonight though so I think I'm gonna go to bed early. I don't have to be at work tomorrow until 4:00 pm so I'll have all day to play around with the settings and stuff. According to the website, all the games I have are playable, so that's promising. The videos they have also show high quality playability so I'm eager to see if It all works. Thanks for telling me about this. I'm so upset my PS2 didn't survive the fire, even though my PSX and Xbox 360 did. Oh well. It was a piece of crap anyway. It was a 1st generation that suffered terrible reading issues. It hated reading CD based games but loved DVD's. And for some reason my memory card got corrupted and I couldn't save games anymore. Hehe, maybe it's for the best that there's a good "alternative."

Sounds like you might not have it setup correctly. Please post the ENTIRE log, and a copy of your setup.ini so we can look and see where it might need tweaked. Also.. I've never heard of Plex. For my media sharing needs to my dad's Blu-ray player in the living room we use Serviio. I've not tried setting it up in GameEx though. I'm curious about Plex. Is it similar to Serviio? Dad's Blu-ray player tends to have issues with transcoding some high def stuff so I'm wondering if Plex might be better at it.

Well I'm afraid about that. I have 2 systems, but my primary one isn't as new. It's only an Intel Core2Duo E6600 running at 2.40GHz. I have 6gb RAM. I run Windows 7 x64. Video Card is an EVGA GTS 250 with 1gb ram. The new one is a laptop that's Intel I7 but I can't install stuff like emulators on it because it's not really mine. It runs some things fine, but others not so well. For instance, it looks like PSX (PlayStation 1) is running fine with no issues. However, N64 is still a bit hiccupy. But that might be limitations in the N64 emulator. I can run some GameCube games ok, but others not so well. Again, might be a limitation of the emulator. But it looks like games not heavy in 3D are much better; Smash Bros and Mario Kart are fine, but Star Wars Bounty Hunters, Jedi Knight 2, and Metroid are really slow. I haven't tried running WII. Actually I recently discovered I can run Atomiswave and NAOMI games. While the emulation seems off, the speed is actually fine. I lowered the resolution on MODEL 3 games and can now play Star Wars Trilogy with no speed issues. The only problem is where emulation isn't correct. I know the PS2 is a bit more hefty. When the PS1 was out, the N64 was too, but N64 emulation isn't good yet. So I'm just curious about the PS2 since it's newer than the N64.

I can confirm that those 3D models work. When Tom posted the link to them I remembered I haven't set mine up yet. So I downloaded them. I created a folder under MAME called 3D-CABINETS, extracted the file into that folder, then pointed GameEx to that folder under the option for "3D Cabinet Path". Those games that have the 3D cabinet show up flawlessly when GameEx is running.

Hey all, me again! I'm just curious what the current state of PlayStation 2 emulation is. Just for fun I pulled out my old phat PS2 to play some Baldur's Gate on it. To my dismay, it looks like the old boy bit the dust in the fire we had. So I've got a fair amount of PS2 games (about 20) that I can't play anymore without buying another console. Granted, you can probably find them pretty cheap USED online. But I'd like to know how well the emulation is going right now for this system. I fear it's probably not up to par just yet, but I was hoping. Just let me know if it's worth trying to install a new emulator on my system. I really wanna play Baldur's Gate. Hehe.

Well since we now got an official thread for this game, I felt I needed to submit a newer higher score than what I had on the old thread. So here is my newest one.. Used HARD as per rules. Initials used: HAN Reached Level 6 ("Flies") Score: 42030
-
I'm just glad to post a score. I'm sure it'll get beaten. I just don't wanna be left out of the running. Heh.
-
Man I don't know how you guys do it. I been playing and playing off and on and I finally get above the 4k minimum score to make it onto the game's table. Then I played more and actually got to 1st place on the game and it took out my last score. Anyway. After probably an hour's worth of playing total, the best I could come up with is around 8k. I don't know how you guys are in the +15k range. I suck. Used specified required settings. Reached level 2. Score: 8100 Initials: HAN

Just an idea.. should we perhaps remove the "Hi-Score Competition" part of the thread titles now that we have the dedicated forum? Seems a bit unnecessary now. Just have them like.. Game of the Month - Galaga Poll of the Month - June Donkey Kong Mario Brothers Centipede As we get more and more games in the forum, it just seems more cluttered having all the extra words before each game. Anyway, this is just a thought. If you decide you agree, just let me know and I'll edit my threads to match.

How low are you willing to go? I could always use more controllers since I (for some ungodly reason) seem to wear mine out pretty fast. Actually, I just noticed you're somewhere in Europe. I should probably look elsewhere, since shipping would probably cost more than the agreed upon charge for the items themselves. Oh well.

Looks good to me. Glad we were able to get an "official" version of the game rules to use for this.

This is awesome news to come home for work today and see. I'm glad the big bosses were able to come to an understanding and agreement on creating the new forum for our needs. They did what we asked, now it's up to us to make full use of it. On another note.. I'll try hitting that apply button and report back if it doesn't work.

Hi-Score Competition - A question for Draco1962
hansolo77 replied to GimmeClassics's topic in GameEx Hi-Score Competition
Wow, gone for 1 day and come back and see a shiny new forum! That's awesome. Thanks a lot to the moderators and admins for doing this. I really think it will help promote the competitions having them all centralized in their own place. It'll also help tremendously with keeping the apparent "spam" of many threads down to a minimum. So I, too, thank everybody who was involved in the final decision making. -
Good Job ClassicGMR. It's still a goal worth shooting for. I haven't been trying lately cause I was setting up my Atomiswave and NAOMI emulators. But I'm off again tomorrow and I'm gonna be playing some more!
-
Interesting concept, although I really have no use for it. GameBase seems to work sufficiently for my needs. Thanks for the info though, always nice to know old systems never die.

I still drool when I see a pinball cabinet like that. I want one sooo bad.
-
Yeah now I just need to find out if there are any other emulators I still need to get for roms I haven't played yet.
-
Ahhh didn't see that. I'll have to make the change and see how it looks on a new submission. I still need to submit a score for Donkey Kong heh. -EDIT- I unchecked the "Autoselect Snapshot Size" but it didn't allow me to change the resolution. Oh well.
-
Yeah but we don't get the fact files.
-
Yeah it took me like 30 minutes to type it out. I thought you had a support thread somewhere with all those maps though. I just forgot about it when I needed it most heh. Thanks for doing that though. It's got me a little closer to nirvana now.
-
Yeah I never really spent much time in understand map files. But I figured the problem I was having was directly related to the fact that the default config in GameEx used a generic DEMUL map file that listed games from all different machine types. But the command line inserted a specific BIOS and the default map wouldn't be of any use there. I actually got to get going to work, but I think I solved 2 of my problems. I fixed the map for Atomiswave so now it correctly lists just the games that are of that system. Another thing I fixed was that the default config in GameEx is setup to use 7-Zip/GoodMerge and it was unzipping the roms before launching. That also caused DEMUL to prompt for the game since it didn't know the file GameEx was sending it.
-
I hate to say it, but if the problem is outside of GameEx, and in MAME itself, we don't really support it. There is a MAME website for support there... somebody might be kind enough to help you but I wouldn't expect much. Something I can suggest.. are you having this crash on one specific game, or is it ALL games? Try playing something simple like Pac-Man or Galaga, an old game that won't use a lot of system resources. You might just have an incapable videocard.
-
LOL!! Holy crap! I just went through and figured out how to make map files, and manually typed out every single game and rom name for Atomiswave. Now you post that! hehe Oh well. Thanks for helping me find that though. I was fearing the NAOMI part.

The worst part is if you suck, it takes a long time for the game to start up before you actually get to play. I hate waiting for stupid Kong to build the stage.
