  1. Yup, that's the one!
  2. 2) Yes, using the network drive could (probably will) cause you to take a long time to finish the update depending on how Tom has things implemented. If GameEx generates a list of stuff all at once, the latency of the network drive will only be a problem once. BUT, if you have GameEx set up to verify roms, then every rom will have that latency. As a result, you could be looking at thousands of seconds in delays depending on your network's performance and the number of roms you are checking. 6) If you don't set a specific resolution for GameEx, it will use whatever the desktop resolution is. If that is changed by another program/game, GameEx may resume with the wrong resolution. If you have everything set up in your other programs so that it's not changing resolutions at all, then this feature may not be all that useful to you.
  3. You can remap keys with AHK pretty easily. Give that a try.
  4. Unless you have a custom compiled version of MAME and have disabled the RAW input system, then you can't use a script to interact with MAME.
  5. The only solution I can think of is getting a version of MAME that requires holding down the exit button(s) for a bit longer or has a confirmation dialog. MAME+ has a confirmation, but I'm unaware of any build that currently has a delay. For someone that knew the MAME code, this is a very small change. For most people, this is something that would require a script to accomplish.

    wow

I use Fusion for all my Sega stuff. I don't run NeoGeo Pocket, so I can't help there.

Oh, didn't see the fast reply text box. That's a little better anyway.

No. Where's the quick reply option?!
  9. You can map buttons in MAME to exit however you want (multiple buttons, etc). For the other emu's, you should check out the Advanced Emulator Configs section of the Setup Wizard or the Advanced Config utility. You can set up multi-button combo exit configs there.
  10. Hmmm. Sounds like a database problem perhaps. Try updating your MAME list maybe?
  11. AdvanceMAME is specifically designed for people running on TV's and arcade monitors who want a bit more control over the way things are displayed than the old standard MAME could. I haven't seen an update in years, but I can't say the project is officially dead (effectively it is though). I don't recommend you using AdvanceMAME unless you have a good reason to. I would also suggest using the standard release of MAME over MAMEUI just because it simplifies troubleshooting and, since you are using GameEx, there's no real advantage to it anyway (MAMEUI is just standard MAME + GUI...which you will never see/use).
  12. I don't think the map file should contain the file extension.
  13. AdvanceMAME hasn't been updated in years. If you are using a current romset, you are likely going to have problems running loads of games. You really should use the same version of roms as your version of MAME to avoid problems.
  14. Those are all different naming conventions, so you should be able to use any/all of them. If GameEx finds an EXACT match, it will use that item to draw data from. Assuming it finds a match, you should be good to go!
  15. Yes, without the extension I think.
  16. So you want more than one image for a game (e.g., box art, screen shot, title, flier)? With a V4 theme, you can have two images displayed at one time. But, I don't know how GameEx picks what goes in each spot. If you want more than one displayed staticly, you could make a compilation image. I don't know if that would work for what you want to do though.
  17. If you want everything in a single list, then yes. Check out the mameemumap.ini file. You can set up the extra roms that misfitmame supports in that file and it should work ok. The only thing is that you may not get any information displayed in the game info screen for those new games. You should have your artwork and such displayed though. Well, actually there are 2 ways to use the mameemumap.ini. You can set up the file to point directly to the other version of mame OR you can set up a second emulator for misfitmame and then point the ini to that emulator number. If you use the second option, you can have a database that contains information for those new roms. I think you should use this method just to make sure it will look good.
  18. You can have GameEx display as 1 window or full screen. GameEx is not a multi-window/dockable application.
  19. Find the database you are using in your GameEx directory. Open the database in Access. Add a new record and enter the information you want using the same conventions as the existing data. It should work just fine.
  20. For question 2, you can use an Advanced Emulator Config to map your quit button to kill the emulator. You could also use a joystick combo if you prefer. For question 1...I don't use that emu, but you need to make sure it works in the emu before trying it in GameEx. If it doesn't work on it's own, it won't work when you try it with GameEx.
  21. GameEx is building a database of all of your media (music, movies, roms, pictures, title screens, etc, etc, etc). If you have a lot of content and it's not local, then it will take a long time to build this database. I don't use GameEx for media in my cab, so I can't offer specific help there. However, you might want to upgrade your 100mb wireless router to something faster if you want to improve the performance a bit (during file copying). It probably won't help for streaming since you should still transfer faster than it's played. I would suggest launching GameEx again and letting it go for several hours. If you are concerned that it's not doing anything, you can monitor the log.txt file to see if anything is getting written to it. After each completed step GameEx will write information to that file to help in debugging.
  22. MAME32UI is the same code base as MAME. There would be no advantage to using that in a cabinet. MAME64 would get you some performance improvement IF you are running a 64-bit OS on a 64-bit PC. This won't get you more games, just help run games better. If you want to play games that MAME doesn't support, you need Misfit MAME or something similar. One of those versions will allow you to play PONG and a few extra versions of SNK titles that aren't in MAME. I don't know how many games aren't in the main stream release, but you could give it a try.
  23. Different ini files won't make for different favorites. HK did make a plugin that would make different versions of GameEx launch on startup. I'll try to find the thread. Ok, here's the GameEx forum thread: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=7497 And, here's the details on HK's site: http://headsoft.com.au/index.php?category=...&page=login After reviewing the description on HK's site, it appears that this won't require multiple installs of GameEx, so this is a really good solution to your problem BIM.
  24. Maybe a Mod can move this to features requests?
  25. GameEx is complaining about a problem with a database for some reason. There are 3 files that contain the database cache that Tom often recommends deleting when there are similar problems. Unfortunately, I don't recall which files these are. The other thing you can do is to turn off all of your emulators, web stuff, etc. to make sure you can get GameEx loading. Then, turn stuff on one at a time (or in groups) to narrow what the problem is. If you think it's a config issue, then one other option would be to rename the gameex.ini file and try using a backed up version. If you look in the c:\program files\GameEx\CONFIG directory, you will see some backed up versions. One of these indicates that it's a backup made after the last update (I forget the file name). Just be sure to make backups in case you need to go back!
