  1. Since MAME UI and MAMEFX are based on the MAME core, it doesn't make sense that they would work with a different set of roms. I don't understand why that would be UNLESS you compiled your own MAME with the u updates. Otherwise, that's very confusing.
  2. Brenry: This is one of the best fuzzy match tools I have seen. It does have certain limitations as you have found, but that's the same thing you will run into with any other tool as well. If you have one file that says batman in the title and are matching to a directory containing one file with batman in the title, the fuzzy match tool SHOULD suggest that as a match. The problem in this case is that they don't match. You can adjust the match quality if I remember correctly. If there is a poor match quality, you could then have the tool not make the suggestion.

    Awesome! Have fun.
  4. Hmmm, I'm not sure how to help with the plugin. Perhaps you could switch to using the LED plugin as it also speaks if I understand correctly. It's supposed to be a better speech plugin from what others have said anyway.
  5. Try running the "runitgame.bat" file. If it works there, then you should be good. My guess is that you fill find an error when you run that file. Hopefully it will show what you need to change in the GameEx settings. Post the results if you aren't sure what you need to fix.

You need to check the "hide/show desktop" setting.
  7. Yeah. Basically, download the installer and run it from Windows 7. When it asks for the installation path, point to the current installation. The only thing you need to be careful of is drive letters. If you have a new partition for Win7 that has different drive letters than you have in WinXP (or whatever your other OS is), then GameEx will probably get confused where things are located. If that's the case, then you probably just want to copy the GameEx directory to another location and install there for Win7.
  8. Cool! I think I can toss the Daphne loader to the curb then! "Out damn loader!!!"
  9. Yup, the easiest way is to just access the same drive that holds you install and tell the GameEx installer to work from there. Since it shouldn't overwrite any of your setting, you should be good to go with no changes. Of course, I would highly recommend backing up the directory first just in case something goes wrong. I know Tom's worked with Win7 a bit, but I'm not sure he's found everything that might need addressing. It's better to have a backup than it is to be forced to redo everything.
  10. I'm sure Tom already gets the results emailed to him, so I'm sure he'll fix that "Elite Member" status by Monday morning
  11. That should work since I remember Tom mentioning it a while back (probably some time in 2007 or so). Maybe this needs more attention by either Tom or someone that's successfully used the feature before.
  12. Yup, that's a good reason to have it set up with an LEDwiz or whatever. The other choice is you could put a switch under the CP to turn them off when you aren't using the CP. It's definitely cleaner to use the LEDWiz though.
  13. Tom has some kind of a hard coded quit button combo coded into GameEx, but I don't remember what it is. That's probably what Brian is suggesting with his suggested test. I'm not sure there's a work around for that other than reprogramming the ipac, if that's what you are running into.
  14. Sounds good. That's the easy way.
  15. Map a button or a shifted button to escape. If you don't want to remap your Ipac, then you will want to use an AHK or AI script to remap the keys to send escape. If you don't know AHK, this is as easy as: a && b :: Escape Which remaps the combination of a and b to send the escape key.
  16. If you want them truly to remain lit at all times when the CP is in use, you might consider wiring them directly to your power source (with appropriate resistor in-line) rather than going through the LED controller. There's no reason to waste a port if you don't need to...unless of course you have plenty left over that is.
  17. I just meant with the FE. P2 is looking at the screen upside down. If you have them set up to select a game, they would potentially have their directions reversed relative to the screen due to the perspective (their up looks like it should move down on the FE). I was being a little obtuse intentionally.
  18. P2 is upside down?! So when P2 uses the joystick, does it move the wrong way on the list?
  19. Nice machine. A bit out of most people's budget IMO. But, if you can swing it, then a nice choice.
  20. NoLogic doesn't frequent the board any more. I think you will have to find a loader from someone else or make your own as these files are not available any more.
  21. Tempest means button 1 in GameEx (there are 4 typically used for select, cancel, volume, paging) which is button 1 on your game pad or the "1" button on your keyboard by default. You can change this to another button/key if you enable custom inputs and configure them to something different.

    Batch files

A loader is just a script that runs a program in a more complex way than the FE can do on it's own. A batch file is a script. So, to answer your question "do I need a script to load a batch file", no. The batch file is the loader, you just need to tune it to fit your needs. If you can't do something with the batch file, then you might consider building the script in AHK or AI so you have more options.
  23. If your list is in MAME32 format, you can change the icon name in the first couple lines. I haven't tried doing that, but it should work.
  24. You would. Typical... Nice choice for token sales.
  25. Damn, 4000. I should retire! On the other hand, I could provide some useful information to someone. pffft, not likely.
