I'm reading through his blog now. Looks like the case 3D printer files are available here. Moreover, he's selling Kits here. You do have to do some assembly, buy some parts, print the case, but no soldering. He keeps selling out! Tempting. Check out how clean it is!

That...is... AWESOME!!! I wonder if he made an instructible or something to document that build. The cart slot is off the chain! I like how you can change the game on the fly too. I imagine this was a PITA on the software and troubleshooting front. It may be more than I'm willing to take on ATM. Something to think about though. Ok, now that makes me want a 3d printer. Man, I find little plastic parts and doohickeys all the time that would make a 3D printer very handy. I agree with Han about the finished look. My friend has an early makerbot, the ABS wire layering type don't give a smooth finish. The layers are still rounded (rough/bumpy) where the outer layer was laid. You have to sand that if you want smooth faces. Then you have to paint and stencil the logos. It gets to be a lot of work. There are different kinds of 3D printers which give far better fidelity, but you pay for it. It's inticing, to be sure.

Yeah, all the stores around say they're out and Nintendo just sends them more without any indication when they will arrive (so they couldn't tell me when I could expect them back in stock). No, biggie. I just ordered my Pi3 and a few peripherals to get the RetroPi portion setup first. I can always stuff it in the case after everything is humming. I've not messed with this before, so it'll be an interesting build. Hell, I could probably stuff it in my original NES (just sitting in a box in my closet yellowing away indifferent to the world) without removing its stock function either. I like the form factor of the classic better though. Besides, I had designs on making the original NES a mini-ITX GameEx monster (But I'm remissed to gut a working stock NES).
-
Looks like there might be enough room under the board to place a pi3. I may need to relocate the main board. That may be difficult if I can't find a way to move some of the ports (HDMI and power). I would prefer to modify the case itself minimally. Of course, I need to get my moddy little hands on a NES classic first! Then I'll have a better idea what is possible in that surprisingly spacious little case.

You can get 35% H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) Gel for teeth whiting, mix that with some Oxy-clean, and UV lamps aren't that expensive. I might try this with some old plastic controllers I have. If it can be carefully applied to the parts I want, I wont have to worry about the laminated sticker portions of NES or SNES controllers being ruined. Good to know.
-
Yeah, I'm thinking I'll get one and put a pi in it. I like it as a case for that kind of project. However, If possible, I'd like to retain the stock functionality and add a switch (maybe I'll hide it). Sounds like a good winter project, or perhaps summer if I don't get around to it. It should be doable.

For me it's the Logitech MX5000. I've had it since 2006 ish, and although it still uses bluetooth 2.1 instead of the new unifying Reciever (RF I think) The damn thing is still better than anything I've looked at since. The mouse started giving me the double click contact bounce problem, so I had to get a M705 (sever downgrade from the accuracy of the laser in the MX1000). I'm probably going to give up and get a new combo one of these days, but I got it for less than $100 originally (great deal) and never looked back.

That's pretty sweet. I'd like that on my cab with aimtrack lightguns.

...for bloody cuts. I'm sure this isn't it, but I thought it was funny.

I like MESS, when possible, I had trouble getting nestopia to work with my unique PS3 controller hack. But I don't use that anymore. I'll try it again and see if I can get it working. Thanks for the suggestion.

Similar story for me. I've been working for 10 years at the same employer. The first few years they strung me out for 10-12 hours/week of part-time at $8/hr (This has kept pace with inflation and the minimum wage to stay about $1 more than the minimum), but these hours have decreased steadily to about 2-4/wk (barely worth the gas and mileage it puts on my car). I still do this job, just to keep my foot in the door (It pays for gas). About eight years back I got some additional hours seasonally from another department, and thus it came from a different budget fund, so I had to fill out 2 separate time sheets. Then about six years back I was offered a Half-Time (20 hrs/wk, 175day) seasonal contract. That actually paid about $15/hr with step increases every year for 15 years + prorated benefits (I pay 50%, so for me my group health insurance does not meet the minimum standard of the affordable care act = Obama care). So once Obamacare came along, I could finally afford health insurance. I kept my other seasonal work, so then I was filling out 3 time sheets. About 3 years back I was laid off. Actually, I was bumped by a senior employee who was laid off. So it was nothing I did. I took the opportunity to go back to school and finish my degree (which I did in 2015). During that time I took the vacancy left by the layoff of the employee who bumped me, So essentially we switched places, except she was contracted (in my old job) and I was Part-Time at a much lower rate than they were paying her (Contracted in her old job). Yes, I'm a man being paid less than the women in my field. Good on my employer for breaking stereotypes? Regardless, I had my hand full working 100hrs/wk between school and 3 jobs (same employer, different departments, different budges and thus pay rates for each). When I graduated last year, the person who bumped me retired and I got my old job (the contract) back and kept the other 3 PT jobs. So now I currently work 4 jobs (same employer, different departments, different budges and thus pay rates for each) amounting to just under full-time. Why just under you ask? Because if I work a combined 926 hrs/year in my Part-Time jobs, they have to offer me a full-Time contract (which they don't want to do). I've been there now for 10 years, and they still don't want to give me full-time work. I make about 22K/yr (6K of which I save for a future I hope will be there). To make a long story short, my employer has found a way to separate my job duties, and pay me accordingly. If you were a head chef for a restaurant, it would be like they paid you minimum wage for the time you spend washing dishes, $15/hr when you were cooking, and $19/hr when you were actively managing and teaching the cooks. Of course this would add up to huge savings, if it were legal. Maybe it would be if they separated the dishwashers, cooks, and management into departments paid from separate funds. Then made them apply for their jobs separately and keep track of their time on different time-sheets. What follows is emotional rambling and frustration, aided with the help of a hangover. So take it with a grain of sentimental salt: This is why I play retro games. It takes me back to when things were fun and easier to deal with.

Tempting, if only for star tropics. I can't find an emu that will handle it (any suggestions). I bought it for the wii's virtual console, but transferred my wii VC games to a defective wii U (Bluetooth controller troubles) and forgot to transfer back before returning (I didn't re-buy). There's probably a way to get them back, I just haven't looked.

He'd have to do something impeach worthy while he's a sitting president, you can't impeach for actions prior to the presidency. Now, if he has to do time for fraud and/or sexual assault I wonder how that would work. Can he pardon himself? You wouldn't think so, but then we live in the reality where Donald Trump got elected president of the United Stated of America. So you can throw reason out of it. The sesame street of american politics always presents 2 bad choices for Americans (if you define "American" as the majority of it's population, and not the top 5%). The oligarchs who wield the most influence in America though, end up with someone better that they would otherwise (in a true democracy). The true purpose of the two major party primaries are to weed out candidates, not to select the most qualified Even then it's for show. By the time any candidate has gotten that far, they have already been compromised by years of either begging for money or screwing people out of it. It pays to be rich, then you can string the politicians out like the addicts they are, for your own agenda and not those of interest to the majority population. #NoConspiracyHere #ThatJustHappened Here's an interesting stat: 42% of all American workers earn less than $15/hr. Is there any wonder why Donald Trump doesn't want to raise the minimum wage? Just saying... The United States is in the grips of political cival war, there's no other way to put it.

Sigh... My profile pic Also applies! This is why we have a 4 year (8 max. heaven forbid) term of presidency. In the mean time though, I guess I'll be uninsured again. It does however make for good political satire. So there's that to look forward to! Question: Is there any kind of Medical / Psychological screening for potential Presidential candidates? I've taken psychology and I'm pretty sure Trump checks all the boxes for clinical narcissism: Apparently, I'm not alone. (Link) Shouldn't the president be declared (by a documented professional) psychologically fit, before the nuclear codes are handed over? IDK, seems like a reasonable precaution, but what do I know.

Damn, why didn't I think of that! Crap. I'm locked in now for 2 years at $70/mo when it could be $40/mo with just the 25Mbps internet option. Then I could get any one of many modems that are compatible, an ooma VOIP (If I really want a home phone, not sure there is an advantage anymore), and a good AC router. That would take care of it nicely. That's what Ill do when the time comes. Too bad I didn't think of that sooner. Thanks for the reminder though.

Nope, it redirects to a webpage that no longer exists when I try to play it. It refuses to play until I renew my licensees, which I can't because they went under. Musicmatch Jukebox was like iTunes, just before or around the same time as iTunes. They kept track of purchased music linked to your account, just like iTunes. But if you transfer the music to another device, other than the one it was bought on, it would have to have the liscence renewed to play. The PC I bought them on in 2004 is long gone, and so is Musicmatch jukebox. Thus, no liscence renewing, no more music. Grumble...

Well, I just set it up again. This time it worked. There is no battery backup in the Arris (now it's a modem), but I have it and the WRT54G Gateway on a timer to power off for 15minuets at 4am every day. This is equivalent of pulling the plug when things lockup, but as a preemptive measure. I don't seem to have drops anymore since I started doing this years ago. I'm hoping it doesn't wipe the bridge mode setting on the Arris modem. Hopefully that is actually handled on Capca$tles side, as I was unable to log into the gateway settings (10.0.0.1) until I activated it. Actually, I think I'll try pulling the plug now and see (I'll edit back momentarily)... EDIT: ...And so...the leased gateway is reactivated and the Arris TG862G is for sure going back. Damn! Ok, so as I feared the reset wiped the settings, it reverted to a 3in1, started back in un-bridged mode, started broadcasting it's ssid, booted my Linksis WRT54G out of it's gateway role, disconnected my switch, and refused to re-establish contact with DNS server when I plugged back into it and re-set it up in bridge mode. It basicly refuses to be a modem by default. There is no way I'm going back to having WIFI drops, and intermittent gremlins, due to the router needing a power cycle, if the Arris is just going to revert to unabridged mode and refuse to behave when reset. This is going to be a regular occurrence if I keep it. $120/yr is better than that headache. I'll have to find another telephony modem, preferably one that does not have any router function. Any suggestions, that are compatable with concast?

Well you have me beat. I only go back as far as NN myself. I got me in some Mech Warrior 2 on our Win 95 machine, when I wasn't playing sim city...lol.. "Man, I can write like 7000 papers, this thing is totally worth $1500." 4GB HDD, 800MHz processor, those were the days huh?

IE is (or was) broken, it stopped working and forced me to chrome. Chrome seems like a privacy trap, I have since completely abandoned it. I feel like Firefox is the safest in terms of built in privacy protection. Especially after installing Ghostery to block trackers and setting my home page and default search engine to DuckDuckGo.com (Which doesnt track searches). I have gotten used to DuckDuckGo and it works very good, maybe not as good as google, but I rarely need to search google to find anything DuckDuckGo can't find. This combo works well for me. I HATE edge. The only thing I like about it is that you can pin bookmarks to your start page. That is cool, but otherwise I'm scared of it. Privacy concerns.

The market is a market, no people willing to buy = no market. DRM kills the market for legal music downloads IMO. I'd rather buy it on amazon to get a physical CD I can Rip and have DRM free mp3s. The only songs in my collection I can't play, are the ones I paid for on musicmatch jukebox in 2004. Musicmatch jukebox no longer exists, neither does my legal music aparantly. I can't update my license if the site 404s on me now can I? Maybe iTunes will be around in 10 years, maybe not. I'm not repeating that mistake again. Grumble.

So my network currently is simple: What I tried to do was this: I think it's important to set the Linksys WRT54GS in router mode, completly disable the WIFI, firewall, and DHCP or it will fight the linksys gateway. I wanted to have another WIFI connection on the opposite side of the house (not repeater, a second SSID but same network). I guess it makes sense that is not possable without a repeater, requiring dd-WRT (which I have on a WRT54G for that purpose) but it always locked up and would have to be hard reset. So, if I try again with these setting It should work, right?

I'll check out 1-3, they sound interesting. 4's not really my thing, but to each their own. IARL sounds very interesting, but limited if it can only connect to freeware archive games. I'll check these out, thanks. Update: My internet has been whack since I activated the Arris TG862G. I've been working hard and have had little time to devote to the home network. So it has been down for the last few days while I relearn how not to setup a network. Fore example, unless you want to physically isolate another network on your network, keep everything in the same domain, 10.0.0.1/10.0.0.2 instead of 10.0.0.1/192.168.1.1! I ran into that one when I tried to print and couldn't find my network printer. I vaguely remember running into that one before, but network problems are like that. You forget how you did it the first time by the time you need to remember again. That wasnt it though, apparently this combo gateway has terrible wifi. I kept getting connected/disconnected. It is recommended I place it into bridge mode and connect a router for wifi, but I would rather avoid that expense, and the Crapcast leased gateway works fine. I haven't bought a router since my linksys WRT54GS (and a couple more from goodwill to play with dd-WRT), which is acting as a switch now. I suppose I could revisit that idea and get a good AC router. I'm so tired of trying to make it play nice that I reactivated the leased gateway, which is what I'm currently using, and have the Arris back in the box ready to ship (The full refund is approved and waiting return). Now I'm thinking, maybe I should give it another chance in bridged mode with a Linksys WRT54G as the Gateway. My issue before was the switch (HTPC, PS3, XBOX) lost connection when I tried that. While the wifi connected devices paired and had internet, the switch could not connect. Now I'm wondering if the switch had the same domain name or not, or was properly configured as a switch. I don't know. It works now, with the leased gateway, the way I want it to. I'm resistant to screw around with it again.

Which adsons do you recommend? I've been focusing more on converting my DVD collection than the addons, though I did try an NBA app that never showed any actual games. Seemed rather confusing and daunting at that time, so I shelved it. Maybe it's time to revisit with some choice apps recommended by my more kodi experienced peers.
