Your cpu is about on par with a low end i3 on a single core basis, is that about right? So yes, I would definitely expect it to struggle a little. If someone can give me some 4k vids to play around with I will take a look but its all about CPU speed really. Its all optimized but its just a limitation with the libraries and frameworks in use and there really is still not any better options available right now to use even if I wanted to without moving to something entirely different across the board. Definitely worth checking out the Beta I posted yesterday though. It will do 1080p 30fps playfield (only) at nearly 30fps on an Atom X5 z8350

Please attach support files in fuil and I will try to duplicate the bug.

Multiple instances of Gamex running in Task Manager
Tom Speirs replied to dschulpius's topic in General
Just for the record: GameEX_Background.exe does two things when GameEx itself is not running. When GameEx is running the process closes. Temporarily they may both be running while GamEex start up or exits but then there is only one running. 1. Keeps GameEx Online running and connected. 2. Downloads artwork. -
This is a BETA release of PinballX with installer only in the link below. I've spent a good amount of time trying to make optimizations with GameEx and PinballX and hopefully it should result in some quite news worthy performance enhancements to rendering and performance and in general. I think there ready for release but to be safe I would appreciate if a few people would try these versions and report any side effects that have been introduced if any. I am also obviously happy to hear about any successes with improved performance. PinballXSetup.zip

This is a BETA release of GameEx and GameEx Arcade Edition with installers only in the links below. I think there ready for release but to be safe I would appreciate if a few people would try these versions and report any side effects that have been introduced if any. I am also obviously happy to hear about any successes with improved performance. I can now get 1080p 60fps on a modern intel atom if videos are limited such as removing the theme background video. 720p is still full 60fps on an Atom CPU. [RESOLVED] Touchscreen option does not work (Win 10, Mame)
Tom Speirs replied to Antiram's topic in General
Couple of things: No GameEx AE is not intended to support touchscreen. GameEx is flagged as having touchscreen support but its the usual story of it depends on emulators whether its supported externally. PS: Iv'e been dragging my feet on it I am afraid but there is a new touchscreen front end solution in the works. So if you end up with another solution I recommend checking back here once in a while.- 5 replies

When it comes to 4k, yes, PBX is the bottleneck.
-
I would expect it to be slow as the rendering is not hardware accelareted. Not much can be done about it right now. At some point Ill look at moving to DXVA or similar. To be clear, its not the decoding its the rendering. There is a memory copy involved. It would be improved as CPU/RAM speed improves.

The main issue is with a real arcade monitor when using different resolutions the positioning needs adjusting for every resolution. Its hard to get a sweet spot. If the goal is just to run MAME only then yes 15khz is a good goal . These days too you are better using GroovyMAME than an ArcadeVGA. Things have moved along a bit with GroovyMAME and its associated drivers and utilities.
-
You may find 640x480 runs better. Although windows may not by default be able to use this resolution but GameEx and emulators certainly can. With a monitor such as yours and these days GroovyMAME is more about getting the exact refresh rate for silky smooth gameplay rather than the resolution itself. What you need to do is setup remote access to the cabinet with something such as teamviewer then play around as you will always have access to the desktop even if the resolution is out of sync. The out of range stuff is pretty normal for arcade monitors. If the display is otherwise working well, trust me its like gold dust. EDIT: With a real arcade monitor (Which you cant even buy anymore) there is a little work involved. You will need to do a bit of research yourself. I recommend build your own arcade forums.

Sorry Todd, should have read that before posting. Just wanted to add that its somewhat dated now and windows 10 is now fully supported for GroovyMAME. Running it myself.

[RESOLVED] Buttons wont save on cab when launching pinball x
Tom Speirs replied to sparkie's topic in General
Its the Visual Pinball auto configure setting guys. Edit: Sorry, see it was already answered. -
No worries. Yes, it works but your CRT is wasted without GroovyMAME.
-
Look into Groovy MAME and associated utilities for modern systems with CRTs. Although requires ATI/AMD cards.

Just so I am clear are you talking about playing random videos or the screensaver? Could you also please search the start menu for "about your pc", open it and let me know the full version number of windows 10?- 8 replies

Upgrade OS from XP to Win7 for my GameEx PC - Anything I need to worry About?
Tom Speirs replied to rtkiii's topic in General
As far as GameEx itself from the horses mouth - likely not. As for drivers and other stuff perhaps. -
I cant think of any reason why a 4k video wouldn't work just so you know. It will likely be slow but it should play.

Pinball Arcade Direct Table Launch with Free Camera Mod!
Tom Speirs replied to bduncan's topic in General
Yes, its all taken care of now. Just use the latest of everything and set PinballX to launch the camera mod directly as the defaults. You have to run as adminisitrator. That is the only caveat. -
You may want to look at the MAME options for audio. You can increase the latency or decrease the sample rate. In the past the -triplebuffer has also caused issues with audio in MAME. May I also suggest looking into GroovyMAME.
-
Again, perhaps a plugin. You have several running there. Some plugins do modify the emulator command line. Its not crashed it just thinks a game is still running,. Its just sitting there waiting for the emulator to exit or for you to hit the exit combo.
