  1. I was watching a video earlier of a Defender restore that led to some random retro searching. In doing so I turned up some strange titles, many that I had long forgotten. This one, however, I can honestly say I don't remember. An eyeball with a fedora (I suppose) which is obviously an attempt to grab some of the Pac-Man crowd.
  2. Yep, I follow the RetroFE scene too! One of the things I love about this hobby is that while some are sitting on the same thing, others continue to push it to the next level. I believe those that truly love this hobby continue to press on for that reason alone, and the resulting competition it creates among the elite frontends benefits the community as a whole. It's a win win from my viewpoint and something I fully support!
  3. I like the idea here but this one is just a bit too realistic for me. Looks like a cab that's spent a lot of time in a corner tavern with lots of beer and cigarette ashes swiped across the screen. Also, my setup is running on a 49 Sony IPS, which I believe will lend itself much more towards the bezels Krakerman has contributed mostly due to size alone. I appreciate the share, however, and will gladly give anything you suggest a spin! You have advanced my knowledge of working within this aspect of visuals greatly already. Thank you!
  4. Somehow I don't doubt this a bit. I guess I'm going to have to finally try groovyMAME!
  5. Wow, on the same page.....I had this monitor for years at work until it finally got blindingly bright and unusable.
  6. Pretty cool stuff, from what I'm reading the desire to return to crt for retro gaming is becoming contagious. https://imgur.com/r/crtgaming/qR6QH
  7. CRT, it's in the game! Pretty cool side by side, albeit a bit dated. Turn your volume DOWN
  8. Given my space constraints, this is most likely what I'll have to accept too (unless I can boot Vic from the garage), but man I miss the days of the XBOX on the Hitachi 55 RPTV.
  9. After I posted that I found a 21 flat screen Trinitron in nearly new shape for free on Craigslist, right down the street from me. I would have grabbed it but the guy answered my email fast and said it was already gone. There is a 32" just ten minutes from me that looks to be in good shape too for $25. I just don't have that much space and I bet it weighs 150lbs. The black 21" has a curved screen but no component inputs. If it did it would make an awesome cab monitor. Threads like this are the reason I have my IBM P260 (which is an FD Trinton) monitor still in the closet. As you point out, however, it's flat as a board!
  10. I can see why. https://www.reddit.com/r/retrogaming/comments/3cmn11/considered_a_500_xrgb_mini_converter_but_instead/ Roadtrip!
  11. From what I understand Goodwill doesn't even take them anymore in most locations while others still do and sell them on the cheap. That would be my first place to look for a bargain, or craigslist.
  12. I remember those days of just a handful of videos, no commercials and most importantly, no BS reality shit! http://loudwire.com/iron-maiden-introduced-metal-to-mtv-anniversary/
  13. Don't you recall back when CRT's reigned? Invar shadow mask was basically the norm, sort of like the TN panel in today's LCDs. Then you had the Trinitron varients, Diamondtron etc that used the aperture grill that was most easily identified by the two tension wires that ran horizontally about a third or so of the way in on both the top and bottom of the screen. I read somewhere that someday in the future we will realize what a loss the CRT really was, but by that time it will be too late and that the prices of what little stock remains will skyrocket. The funny thing is that their exit wasn't all so dissimilar to that of the arcade machine. They were old, heavy and out of style. In almost exactly the same manner they have been hauled off to the landfills without so much as a second thought by most.
  14. Saw this one on Sunday at the relatively new Cinemark/Tinseltown in a comfy recliner I guess I see why Regal is updating their theaters.....but matinee prices are Cinemark are half that of Regal.....$5.76 vs $10.20. My preferred theater for sure now! With the possible exception of the 2nd, I've found them all enjoyable flicks, but this one I thought was really good and really kept your attention the full 2 1/2 hours. Recommended
  15. Pretty cool stuff: (for a quick overview see the rendered presentation in the NY Times article) https://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/infrastructure/a22539919/the-hoover-dam-changed-americaand-it-might-do-it-again/ https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/07/24/business/energy-environment/hoover-dam-renewable-energy.html
  16. IPS screens have a chevron shape. IPS screens also suffer from ghosting more than TN panels, so it could be they look better for old-school arcade games too. In conjunction with HLSL, it could make for a much more realistic experience.
  17. Cool. I assume you've finished all your updates, everything looks great! Your videos have matured as well, thanks for putting forth the effort to share this with all of us.
  18. Please let us know if aa fresh install. Thanks
  19. I really like everything about this table. Is the "We have a visitor" at startup still present?
  20. Walmart Exclusive
  21. Must not be a deal hunter I guess. I used to frequent Anandtech "Hot Deals", and Fat Wallet, or Slickdeals (who happens to be featuring the Walmart deal at $299 any cab). In case your not aware, there are unwritten rules when it comes to finding and jumping on a deal, like never calling to confirm a deal is for real and not just a price error. Oh hell no, everybody just orders in hopes that it goes through, and I couldn't tell you how many times it did when I was deal hunting. Regardless, there was always some clueless dip that would post "I called the store in Lexington store and spoke to the manager......" which was the death knell of many a deal. Another rule is don't order multiples, "I just ordered 25", as this was sure to raise flags in the event of a price error. Typically it was acceptable to order two however and so "N 4 2" ........
  22. Ready in minutes, not years! This is a win win!
  23. stigzler, your comments have me thinking there are things you haven't exactly been open with us about N 4 2
