  1. > what is a grue? The grue is a sinister, lurking presence in the dark places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale. Time to brush up on some text based adventure gaming my friend! I recommend starting with some Zork! ... Or you could just take the shortcut and check out the awesome documentary Get Lamp. It's a super cool film that I think any gamer would likely enjoy (IMO), but is essential viewing for fans of text adventures (particularly so if you were around during that era).
  2. Absolutely amazing work you guys! What a fantastic capstone to a remarkable project. Thanks for all of your long hours, hard work, and single minded determination. This will be a great asset to the community.
  3. Hi centurion60 and Welcome to the GameEx forums! No need to apologize, your English reads perfectly (and is exponentially better than my Spanish!). In order to answer your question I need to defer back to Tom's statement: From what I'm seeing today it appears that current Lifetime Licenses have been transferred to the GameEx Lifetime Member member group on the forums. I see that you are still shown as being in the Basic Member group which means (at least for the purpose of the forums) you are not being shown as a current lifetime license holder. Please bear in mind that going forward your GameEx license is inextricably linked to your forum account, so you need to be sure that the email you registered with on the forum is the same email address you used to register GameEx. If that is not the case (or you believe there may be some other issue) I would recommend contacting Tom at the email address given in the quote in order to resolve the matter (please remember to include your most recent receipt for GameEx in the message).
  4. The decision between GameEx and GameEx Lite will largely depend on your goals and system setup. GameEx Lite is intended to be run purely as a MAME frontend. If you're only running MAME on your system, it's worth considering, but I generally like to run (a lot) more than just MAME.
  5. Oops sorry that V2 thing was a bit of a typo. Brian's instructions (and the others) actually are specific to Reloaded. (Didn't you read the whole page as suggested, you naughty boy!? ) Here's where everything gets pretty well spelled out, but seriously read that whole page, there's some good stuff there (including Brian Hoffman posting his working config).
  6. When GameEx takes back focus, is DOSBox running in the background? It might be necessary to leverage an advanced emulator config. Having said that, I believe some users have reported success with D-Fend V2 using the methods outlined here (which forgoes the use of shortcuts all together): D-Fend Reloaded (DOSBox) (be sure to read that entire page as I believe there were incremental improvements made along the way).
  7. Thanks for the heads up Tom! This was one of the crucial steps to a successful roll out of GameEx Evolution, which can only mean we are that much closer to getting our hands on the worlds first next-gen frontend. Awesome news!
  8. Here's how I do it. You're correct that the directory picker will only get you so far as selecting the appropriate directory. So from the Setup Wizard select the appropriate directory that contains the controller image you'd like to use. C:\Emulation\Assets\NES\Ctrlr\ Now open a file explorer window, navigate to the directory that contains your controller image and copy the name of the image file to your clipboard. Then just paste it at the end of your directory string in the Setup Wizard. C:\Emulation\Assets\NES\Ctrlr\NES.png Remember to add the final directory separator if it's not there already when you paste in the file name! Ctrlr\NES.png That should be just about all there is to it. Good luck!
  9. Awesome! Thanks for sharing your solution dalob.
  10. Bear in mind that I've never configured GamEx in this fashion, but the idea is that you should be able to enable the use of Model 2 using the Model 2 screen in the Setup Wizard. Once you enable Model 2 as a separate emulator, GameEx will intelligently use the Model 2 emulator (rather than MAME) when launching a Model 2 game (from the MAME list).
  11. It sounds like you're using a full map file for Model 2. When you have a moment, it would probably be best to post your settings so we can see whether you're integrating Model 2 with MAME or have it setup as a stand alone emulator.
  12. Holy smokes, that looks fantastic maxxsinner! Thanks for sharing your progress, and welcome to the forums!
  13. I use and recommend this Xinput Wrapper for DS3 over MotionInJoy. It's super easy to use, glitch free (in my experience), and best of all - no crazy unsigned drivers to worry about (your DS3 is recognized as an Xbox 360 controller). Good times my friends!
  14. Did you try adding the word pause to the end of your runitgame.bat? This will likely allow you to see more information about the error being generated. Based on the runitgame.bat you posted the modification would look like this: After adding a pause to the end of the file you would save it and double click the modified file to run it again. This will force the command window to remain open and allow you to take note of any errors being reported by MAME itself. Among other things it does not appear that you have GameEx configured to use MAME Plus. Is this intentional, or do you have multiple versions/flavors of MAME running? If it's the latter, are you running a matched ROM set for each of them?
  15. Hi jst0rm and Welcome to the GameEx Forums! Han is right on track with this one. Further is you get so far as opening up the runitgame.bat file within notepad, try adding the word pause to the very end of the file, then save the file and try running it again. This way if MAME is experiencing an error the command window will stay open so that you can actually see what the error is. The How to Ask For Help thread has some detailed instructions on how to troubleshoot using runitgame.bat in this fashion (skip down to step 4).
  16. Yes I believe that Tom has stated the Contributors, Elites, and higher will receive a complementary upgrade package to GameEx Evolution. Membership has it's privileges and all that. That shouldn't stop you from purchasing though! Remember that GameEx makes a lovely Mother's Day gift as well! Christmas is just around the corner. Have you got an aspiring retro gamer on your list? A copy of GameEx Evolution (along with an offer of expert support) would make the perfect gift! I purchased another license just because it really is an amazing deal right now, and it's worth it to me to support this amazing product (as well as our wonderful community). Heck I can scarcely take my family out to eat at McDonalds for less than $28.00 these days. Having said all of that, Tom offered the complimentary upgrade to our exemplary users as a way of saying thank you, so there's certainly nothing wrong with simply being graciously accepting of his hospitality. (But seriously GameEx does make a great gift ... like literally the gift that keeps on giving )
  17. I hadn't listened to MC Frontalot for a while and decided to put it up on my headphones today at work. Such good stuff! I have a tendency to assume that a few of the things I like fall into the realm of common public knowledge only to realize that a lot of people don't know what on earth I'm talking about. So if you haven't ever checked out MC Frontalot before here ya go. Nerdcore FTW! (Wow typing it out like that really takes me back to 2007 )
  18. Not quite. $28.00 is 25% off the normal price of $35.00 for a lifetime license of GameEx. So to clarify, the $28.00 price has already had the 25% discount applied. Well ... pretty much. The only caveat being that next gen GameEx is actually called GameEx Evolution. Although really ... we basically see GameEx Evo as being a completely revolutionary frontend, so if the shoe fits! And yes if you purchase a lifetime license of GameEx during the summer sale, that license is considered to be transferable to GameEx Evolution.
  19. Wow! Great job you guys. Very impressive work!
  20. Hi Moogster and Welcome to the GameEx Forums! I believe there are two settings which affect how music visualizations are displayed within GameEx, but TBH it's been so long since I've messed with either of them that I can't remember which of them is more pertinent to your question. Please check the following settings: The Audio Play Mode setting found on the HTPC / Multimedia Settings screen in the Setup Wizard (You'll want to select 'Clicking songs visualizes') and The Enable Visualizations setting found on the Tweaks / Performance screen in the Setup Wizard (Naturally you'll want to select 'Yes') Like I say, it's been a while since I've messed with it, but I think the combination of the above two settings will get you where you want to be.
  21. It's noteworthy that the beer may in fact be the factor that makes voice recognition more difficult ... although ... it could certainly provide the necessary conditions for a good test of edge cases ... (Sorry to derail; I couldn't help but to think of this clip. Great idea Stigz! )
  22. Well, I'm not sure I'd attempt to make the changes while GameEx (or the wrapper) was running at all. Were it up to me, I'd just start the emulator directly and adjust those settings as needed. I believe (though I'm not strictly 100%) that those settings remain persistent between runs of the emulator. OTOH if they aren't persistent settings, then unfortunately I don't believe the emulator has command line options to support that functionality as far as I can tell (unless the wrapper you're using allows for manipulation of settings upon startup). The rule of thumb applies here that it's typically best to completely setup the emulator outside of GameEx prior to running within GameEx. But ... if that doesn't work you can always improvise. To that end, I suppose you could always launch an AHK script (or similar) as a 'Launch Before' process to quickly make the appropriate selections upon startup, but it is something that would be visible to the end-user (in the event that you're striving to maintain the illusion of 100% transparency to the end user).
  23. Hi SpyhunterUK Just to verify, is this the emulator you're using for CD-i? (I can't imagine that CD-i emulators are popping out of the woodwork, but it doesn't hurt to verify) This is not a system I emulate currently but I have had a play with the emulator itself. Based on what I've seen this seems to be related to the functionality of the emulator. If I were setting this up I would likely setup an Xpadder profile which allowed mouse movement via the controller (in addition to any other necessary controls) This setting is maintained within the emulator itself. If you want to achieve fullscreen while maintaining the proper aspect ratio you'll want to apply the following settings: In the CD-i emu, adjust the following settings: Window > Select the following: Aspect + Stretch + Fullscreen If on the other hand you would like full screen with a stretched aspect ratio you would do the same as the above less the Aspect setting Window > Select the following: Stretch + Fullscreen The Constrain setting seems to be what limits the viewable window to a smaller size within the emu. Are you referring to the preview video in GameEx, or to the performance of the game itself? If the latter, does the game play as expected when running outside of GameEx?
  24. Can't wait to hear your progress Han. This is the exact reason that something like PS2Lunch or PCSX2Bonus can be such a boon. After painstakingly manipulating settings for one game, it's a huge PITA when you have to alter those settings in order to make a different game playable. The ability to save settings on a per-game basis is huge. If you decide to jump wholeheartedly down the rabbit hole of PS2 emulation I would recommend checking one (or both) of them out. PS2 is one of those systems for which I only add games to GameEx one at a time in order maintain proven playability and performance. (It sucks having broken games launchable through GameEx, and it's a virtual guarantee that guests will attempt to play that broken game if given half a chance!)
  25. I would start with the PinballX Documentation thread and the wonderful setup document maintained by zeenon (found in that thread).
