Hello Adultery, I am using An ArcadeVGA 3000 (AMD) with 800 x 600 resolution, but the same exact thing happens in 640 x 480 also.

Thanks Tom! Please note that I am using Windows 7 64 bit. Thanks again!

Hi Tom, SSF.exe is the executable Thanks again for your help!
-
Exactly the same as mine. Sounds like it's repeatable between our systems. Its almost as if when ssf is running before gameex is started it makes an exception for ssf, but if not it kills it somehow. Is it something with the gameex background? That seems like something newer. It wasn't there before in my older version when ssf worked. Just trying to look at all possibilities. It would certainly seem like "something" is being handled differently by GameEx in newer versions that is causing SSF to be killed.

Hello Tom, Thank you very much for replying! I did as you requested, and receive the same GameEx killing SSF result (ini and log files attached) I also tested with just running SSF alone (no batch files, DTools, etc), and also received the same GameEx killing SSF result (ini and log files (NoBatch) also attached. The really strange thing about this issue, is discussed in the other thread by Zyon. If you first start SSF (without GameEx running), then start GameEx, then close SSF, then try to run SSF from inside GameEx, it works! But after closing GameEx and restarting, SSF does not work again and is killed. I don't know if this will help track things down, but as I've mentioned in this post previously, in older versions of GameEx SSF worked fine. Thanks again for all of your help! Hello Draco, I have updated GameEx to the newest version (14.44) and am still experiencing the same exact issues with SSF being killed by GameEx. My updated gameex.ini and log.txt files are attached as requested. Any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! log.txt GameEx.ini

Hi Adultery, Yes, please see my reply to Zyon above (using newest GameEx version, btw) If my Cab's video specs matter, here they are: Windows 7 64 bit (fully up to date) ArcadeVGA 3000 video card (AMD based) Betson Imperial (Kortex) Tri-Sync Monitor (resolutions up to 800 x 600), connected via VGA Also note that I have my Cab connected to my TV, using it as a second monitor via DVI SSF is also killed in similar fashion when attempted to run it from within GameEx on the TV I appreciate your continued help trying to resolve this issue!

Hey Zyon, If I start SSF windowed first before starting GameEx windowed, SSF still remains running after starting GameEx windowed. If I start GameEx windowed, and then try to start SSF windowed, SSF gets killed. If I start SSF windowed, then start GameEx windowed, then close SSF, then try to run SSF from within the windowed GameEx, SSF works! To futher this, if I go to full screen with GameEx and SSF, they also both still work! If I exit from GameEx, and then restart it, SSF no longer works and is killed by GameEx as usual in regards to this problem.

Sounds good Draco, thank you!

Draco, please note that in my thread I also tested without batch files, with the same exact results. Thanks!

Noticing the number of threads dealing with SSF (besides my own) and GameEx killing it with Windows 7, I would be happy to test each and every version of GameEx to see exactly which version this issue began. We know that SSF worked fine in the "13.x" series, so if someone can point me in the right direction as to were I can download previous versions I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for replying! As requested, I have attached my gameex.ini and log.txt file for GameEx Version 14.43 to this post. Thanks! GameEx.ini log.txt

Hello Tom, The last 2 versions of GameEx (14.42 & 14.43) still kills the emulator SSF regardless of how you launch it in Windows 7 as detailed in this post. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
-
GBBBS are you also using Windows 7? I believe most of the other people with issues with SSF were using Windows 10.

Hello Tom, Thank you very much for your reply. I only update my Arcade Cab once every year or so. The version of GameEx that SSF works is 13.08 If you can provide me (or point me in the right direction), I would be happy to test each version going backwards to determine exactly which version this issue began. i already know this issue is present in the last 2 GameEx releases. From what it appears from other people posting regarding this problem with SSF, it would seem to be one of the most recent versions. Thanks!

Hi Adultery, It was definitely not my intent to tell you to f..k off. I was just trying to highlight Tom's post requesting the files that I posted, and quoting it was not working so I copied and pasted his request into the post. I do honestly appreciate your's (and everyone's) help, and if I have offended you in any way, I sincerely apologize.

I do not know why you have an attitude, and clearly I am not an expert regarding anything. Your last post mentions that you cannot replicate this issue, with is certainly understandable. Tom, requested that i post 2 files, which I did. He has not yet replied, and I am still waiting for his reply. I honestly have no idea why you seem to have an issue with anything i've said. I love GameEx, and I've paid for it a long time ago, the only real frustration is having to keep hearing that the problem is not GameEx, when every single test has confirmed that it is. I honestly do not feel that I've replied in a condescending manner, but if my posts have come across that way, I am very sorry, and I really do appreciate all of the help I've received here over the years. Regarding batch files, I do have examples listed in this post, but it already has been confirmed that this same thing even happens with SSF when run without batch files, and that batch files open and run other emulators just fine I do agree with you regarding choices and I have reverted back for now. Hopefully this can be resolved sometime in the future. Thanks again for your help!

I am still waiting for Tom's reply regarding the files he requested that i upload. (which I did above). Tom Speirs Administrator Owner12,155 postsGender:MalePosted 19 November 2015 - 03:53 AM If an older version works and the latest does not. Please provide \data\runitgame.bat from both versions.GameEx simply launches that file. Cheers. Tom. I think it's pretty clear that after all the testing that has been done, that something is different in newest version of GameEx, and it seems to just effect SSF I am using Windows 7/64 and If you use an older version of GameEx SSF works. If you use the newest version it does not work. The windows 10/Dtools issues (mentioned in other posts) regarding SSF are unrelated to my issue.

Hi Tom, Sorry to bump this post, but have you had a chance to take a look at the 2 files I attached above as requested? Thanks!
-
We have established that batch files are not the problem here, as they work perfectly fine with other emulators inside of GameEx. In addition, when SSF is run without batch files, the same exact thing happens when run from inside GameEx. His issue appears to be a Windows 10/DTools issue, but I would imagine if Tom updates the runitgame.bat file and SSF works again, I would bet the batch files would work with SSF and Windows 10 also.
-
Judging from your previous post, if I was running Windows 10 I wouldn't have an option. I have no plans to update Windows 7 anytime soon, and we have already seemed to have proved that this problem has nothing to do with Windows 7, DTools or Batch files. Thanks!
-
Yeah, I agree. For the hell of it, I also set up batch files to test run zsnes and magicengine (using DTools to mount the PCE CD's), and both worked perfectly in the newest version of GameEx
-
Hi Tom, I was not allowed to add the .bat files, so attached them rar'ed together I really appreciate your help! Thanks! runitgameBATS.rar

Thanks again for your help! I did as you suggested and mounted an image outside of GameEx I changed the command in the config to SSF.exe Exaclty the same thing happens. SSF opens for a second or two, then closes. There is no batch file involved. I have attached my ini and log to this post. This process also works perfectly outside of GameEx. Mount an image, click SSF.exe and everything works fine. For some unknown reason with the newest version of GameEx, it loses focus/kills the emulator. The one thing I definitely do not agree with is that this is a windows problem. When I install an older version of GameEx, everything works again, windows is unchanged and exactly the same for both the older version of GameEx and the current version. Thanks! GameEx.ini log.txt

I truly appreciate your help Adultry, but it almost seems like we are trying to prove that GameEx is not the problem, when by process of elimination it would seem obvious that some change within GameEx is causing this problem with SSF. My config for SSF has worked for many years and many versions of GameEx Everything works perfectly outside of GameEx Everything works perfectly with an older version of GameEx When absolutely no other change other than updating GameEx is done, SSF no longer works. The batch file still lanches the emulator, and the emulator actually opens up, then after a second or two, GameEx closes it down for no apparent reason. All of my other emulators still seem to work fine, but none of them use a batch files If someone would be able to provide me with previous versions of GameEx (or let me know where they can be downloaded), I would be happy to go back version by version to find out exactly which release this problem started with if that would help. Thanks again for all of your attention to this issue!
