  1. Great score man! You knocked GC out of the point scoring zone And liking your own post?? I guess it's ok to love yourself if you're that good *Updated OP, DB, RSS.
  2. *Updated OP, DB, RSS!. WOOP YEAH BACK IN THE GAME! oooo 1000 posts too!
  3. If you want to see absolutely all of your roms you will need the following in MAME Settings: Only Working Games = No Allow Imperfect = Yes Verify = No Only Existing = Yes Use Game Filter = No Change these to "Gimme": No Adult Games No Mahjong Games No Casino Games Load GameEx, click Update List
  4. Stayin Alive?
  5. Sounds like Beat Hazard with more features and complexity - good! Thanks for the heads up i'll definitiely check it out
  6. They are maintained by the non Mame Dev community so they are scattered all over the net they are not too hard to find though as you can imagine they are popular files the top 4 i listed i would say you should always have, the bottom 2 are less important but will add to your MAME experience. Once you have them (wherever you like, i usually put them in the MAME directory) then go to MAME Settings in the Setup Wizard and scroll all the way to the bottom to set each of their paths
  7. It should indeed play if you have Snap Best Match enabled. Using your example try renaming the vid to match your rom/archive exactly. If it then plays you may have found a bug (you'd be the first to report this though). If it still doesn't play then i would guess you have a codec problem. Try installing the recommended Shark007's Codecs - it resolves these kind of issues 99% of the time
  8. It's a great program ain't it? I started with HK's Compiler too - MAME compiling can be a bit intimidating to first timers. I do it manually these days, simply coz i can and i like to know how things are done. There's no reason why anyone can't use the Compiler forever though That's a big jump you made there! Don't forget to update all your support files and point GameEx to them too: Support files: mameinfo.dat *history.dat catver.ini nplayers.ini command.dat controls.ini *As you compiled .153 you may aswell save yourself some headache and grab my fixed version from the download section Also, you updated your romset to .153 too right??
  9. No log.txt so can't see potentially important info You can try changing Hide Desktop to No (Setup Wizard> Display Settings), but that is just a shot in the dark. Your problem may lie deeper. To help us out can you confirm the following: Do the offending games work in MameUI outside of GameEx? If no, do you have the latest DX for your system installed? And do you have the latest drivers for your GPU installed? Yes to above but, still get black screen - does your romset match your version of MAME? The two must be in tandem, as one, peas in a pod, Romeo and Juliet, OK i know enough analogies when i seem em but you get my point. Admittedly i've never experienced any black screen issues except when: 1) My firewall kicks in and i can't see the prompt (again it would be persistent, not with some and not others), and 2) When i fail and enter a wrong path somewhere EDIT - Aha! Found another setting that may have some influence. Try changing: RunFullScreenInWindow=true to RunFullScreenInWindow=false using Setup Wizard> Display Settings> Full Screen Windowed = Disabled One of the assortment of options will help you out surely Yes, Yes & Yes dammit! - Run GameEx, as soon as you get a black screen through MAME, quit, then post us your log.txt
  10. For what it's worth i've only noticed this happen on themes with custom emu backgrounds/modules enabled (ie Krak's). I've made 9 themes so far, 4 of them with custom backs and all 4 seem to do what you decribe. Doesn't help you much i know Just enlightening ya
  11. Is it only a black screen when you launch vertical games? If so try changing: Setup Wizard> MAME Settings> (scroll down) Use Bezel = Don't Use Bezel Failing that reply back with your usual GameEx.ini and log.txt - instructions
  12. Check you have installed and updated DX11. It's easily overlooked on a new install The black borders may sort themselves after DX update but you are correct to use the GPU scaling. As for the BSOD i would check your virtual memory and power management settings.
  13. As Adultery said. Unlike other emulators, your MAME build will depend entirely on your romset. Your MAME vers, and all its support files should match your romset version always. So, in short, if you update your romset, you will need to recompile MAME and get updated versions of the the support files to match. Support files: mameinfo.dat history.dat catver.ini nplayers.ini command.dat controls.ini hiscore.dat For this reason i choose to skip a few versions of MAME each time. If you're not too bothered about keeping up with the latest you can keep the same set for (potentially) years. But if you start mixing versions of anything Mame related you're in for a big headache!
  14. Have you tried using Del or Esc instead? It's usually one of those if not F2 I would uninstall GPU Tweak first, then remove any drivers you installed and get the latest Catalyst from AMD. Get the card working first otherwise there ain't nothing to tweak I expect it'll reinstall fine once Catalyst is up n running.
  15. I've always needed Catalyst to get my ATI cards working correctly. Have you tried running the install as admin, and did you try to install Catalyst before that Tweak thingamy?
  16. the rich get richer - what's new? If you're not going for a career though, GIMP is still one hell of a worthy contender. More so if you consider the aforementioned price tag
  17. Heheh i used to be in the printing trade too not the repro/prepress side of things though. You should have no problem once you get to know the GIMP @null - except with the other the desired effect comes from removing layers
  18. Once you get practice on thinking in layers it'll become much easier Painters work in layers naturally so tend to transition to digital art easier than say artists that primarily draw (like i used to ).
  19. GIMP for me. No way ever in this lifetime i could afford PS Inkscape is great too if you need to create vector graphics, although it can be a bit buggy on Windows, it's never been a problem on Linux.
  20. Thanks for taking the time to write all that up. I couldn't be bothered so gave generals heheh. It was actually this game that turned me into a bomb hoarder One last tip about the bees i would like to add to your excellent post: To release them you need to hit them with the front/tip of your laser. In other words you must stop firing it, then fire it again so as it travels up-screen the tip hits them. If you just hold down laser constantly you won't free any bees and therefore miss out some nice bonuses. @GC/Han - DBM not connect for me
  21. For those with the CarnEvil bug in MAME 0.153 - fixed history.dat here > http://goo.gl/yLaTn6

  22. Me too "and-then-I-got-an-urge-to-watch-more-vids-with-crazy-random-lyrics-about," "A guy on a buffalo-OOOOOOOOOOOOOO" Ok, i'll stop now. Maybe.
  23. Hey Charles, tthurman is correct - you should open a new thread in the GameEx General forum to get assistance with your issues. I will however give you some quick pointers here but still make that new thread for any further correspondence. Firstly, although GameEx will download emulators for you and create a default structure for them, your artwork and your roms, you still however need to set everything up in GameEx manually. You will need to go through each emulator in the Setup Wizard and configure the relevant paths, command lines etc. Also you are not bound by the directories that GE creates, you can have all your roms, emu's and artwork wherever you please, because you need to configure the paths in the Setup Wizard anyway Secondly what i suspect is happening, is that you are only seeing the Demo roms. These are fake files for demonstrating how GameEx looks and functions when you have everything setup. They won't launch because they are not real roms - you'll need to obtain those yourself. GameEx has and will never come preloaded with any roms. Lastly you will need to setup MAME in the dedicated MAME Settings section of the setup wizard to get the full experience of what GE can do with it. This will also fix your issue with the rom names being displayed. Good luck! And remember to make that new thread while you're there be sure to attach a copy of your GameEx.ini and log.txt - instructions here
  24. There seems to be a few people jumping in and out of there today Your permissions were changed when you were put into the new supporting group Maybe chatroom privileges got overlooked, in which case no Supporting Member can get in there I expect an Admin will take a look when they notice the thread "he locked you out of the chatroom coz you're a noob" "the guy on a buffalo-ooooooooooooooooooo..."
