  1. HA! Told you so I think most gamers when asked about game OST's will choose one of the GTA's - they just so damn good! I actually like GTA III best but was "feeling" VC when i posted There are so many "unheard of's" in that game (GTA III) and they are all iconic. When i hear them i am instantly thrown back 15 years, or however long it has been
  2. Of course! But i do And you're right, but that's probs why i like 'em
  3. Using App ID's would make things future proof as they never change, but like you say - how to work them into your existing code? Your Xpadder plugin after all is literally one of the best things to ever happen to GameEx. Dare i say to make a new DB using App ID's (or use the GX one) and create some links? I'm not a DB guru so call me crazy out loud - i won't mind
  4. DiRT 2! Particullarly these two: Ignore their youthful good looks an listen: And this one: if you don't dig this you got no soul!
  5. And the winner is... In truth i've been left with a hard decision this month - i've not been acting as a Hi-Score Moderator for a while now, mainly coz i've been focused on my Forum Mod duties, but with Dennis on holiday, and Han being overwhelmed with work i have been asked to step in. Because of this i find myself in a difficult position - announcing The Punisher winner. I have made my decision, and i hope you'll agree. Han posted his score well within the time. There seems to be some discrepancy as to when YJ posted his score. This may well have been our fault, in which case i apologize for that! YJ is a great player though, and i have no doubt that in future he will win more awards! This is the first time i've seen Han "give it some" and so feel it should be rewarded (he was number 1 for most of the month) I realise this is not very professional, but i was asked to step in at a complicated moment and make a choice - i made it. So i announce hansolo77 as the winner of GOTM JULY
  6. At the risk of sounding old, i stand by the fact that most of us here witnessed first hand a revolution, a revolution that was essentially brought upon by the kids of the 70's and 80's. Us! It's all too easy to accept nowadays that gaming is a part of life, but things could have easily gone in another direction. Technology would have always advanced the way it did, but the gaming medium was never guaranteed. It was the passion of the programmers plus the demand of the players that ultimately got us to where we are today, and i feel quite proud of that If the players weren't there, the programmers wouldn't have made the games and our present tech would most likely be very different @Stigz - I don't quite understand the Facebook generation either - why would you tell the whole world what you are doing? Compulsively?! But at the same time my family thought i was nuts coz i liked to play Beach Head on C64 for hours (medic!) and i turned out OK - mostly
  7. Had no idea it had become that simple! Thanks for pointing that out Parka - you've saved me at least some initial research and i appreciate that
  8. Yeah i realised shortly after my post that because i'm in PAL region we might well have had slightly different soundtracks - which kinda sucks when you think about it! YES YES YES! As you already know i am a massive TA freak - and rightly so. When that music finally calms down, you wipe the sweat and relax, before thinking "OMG I GOTS TO GET READY FOR THE NEXT ONE AHHHH"
  9. Watching them trailers really make me appreciate that i was able to experience the birth of video games, from playing on my dads 2600 as a toddler, to playing my childhood away on the C64, to drunken nights playing Skid Marks and Zool on the Amiga. I feel so privileged it almost brings a tear to my eye . From what is now considered a normal everyday pastime, i experienced the stigma of being a gamer in the 80's. Being treated the same as a junkie, as someone with "issues" all because i loved playing video games - family interventions and all! - yup, that actually happened kids! How so very far we have come.
  10. OMG i totally forgot bout THPS 2 !! Man THPS 3 was good too! Coz it had Blitzkrieg Bop! Rage Against the Machine though, man bravo. "When Worlds Collide" wasn't in THPS2 though
  11. GTA Vice City One of my favorites of all time, not coz of the gameplay so much, but coz of the soundtrack! GTA hasn't improved much since GTA III, it's been the same since in my opinion (mostly). One thing it has over other franchises is the OST! Every release has an outstanding soundtrack and Vice City is no exception! Check it: i would honeslty foward it to 32:00! "Internet killed every star" Post your fave game OST's!
  12. Glad you are getting somewhere, Just remember that each time you add a new rom, you will need to Update List
  13. As nullPointer said, the filter preserves everyones sanity as MAME can get wildly out of control! It's enabled by default to make things much easier for both the user, and us too MAME is crazy and we'd like to calm it as much as we can, so to help you guys as quick as possible Of course it's up to you guys to help us help you, and if you want you could ignore us if you want... but i like to think that coz we help you, you like to help us To answer your question - the filters will eliminate many problems right from the start, so if we know you have them enabled, we can troubleshoot much further ahead. Also, most people will be using what we call a "full romset", in other words a collection of roms with over 28,000 entries! In comparison to your set that seems insane don't it?? Truth is though, most MAME users have to face this, and our filters drastically reduce these numbers to a point that we can confidently give sound support, knowing what the filters are doing That's why i was anxious to advise you turn them off - something i've not done before
  14. In that case, seeing as your romset is so small, i would suggest adding them to the excluded list. You can find it as always in Setup Wizard> Custom> MAME Settings. Find "Don't Filter these ROMS". You will likely see something like: pacman;splatter Add your roms to this list (using ; to separate each rom) and they will appear. For example, using your missing roms: pacman;splatter;1943;galaga;bombjack; Etc. If you add roms to the Exlcuded List, or Don't Filter These Roms list they will show There is another way, which i don't recommend often, in fact this would be the first time, but seeing as your collection is so small it might be beneficial to you - turn the filter off completely. Again you do this in the same place as always, scroll down and find: Use Game Filter: Change to No Boot GameEx and Update List. I only recommend this to you because of your small, specialized rom list. Normally i wouldn't advise this. To anyone reading this post, the advice to turn off the filter was a one off, and advice specifically made to OP. Typically you shouldn't do this! Don't follow this advice unless you have been told to by staff.
  15. Could you give me a an approximate amount of roms you have? It will help in determining what might be happening. Thanks!
  16. Load the Setup Wizard> Custom> MAME Settings. (scroll down) Change: Only Existing Roms=True Boot GameEx and Update List again
  17. You can have your roms literally anywhere (even all optional files such as snaps, manuals etc) as long as you tell GameEx where they are. Just as you realised GameEx was looking in the wrong place for your MAME.exe, you will need to change the ROM Path in GameEx, to tell it where your roms are stored. Using your example above, load the Setup Wizard> Custom> MAME Settings. Find ROM Path and enter: C:\Roms\Mame\Roms Boot GameEx, go to MAME, scroll to bottom, hit Update List. While you are in the MAME Settings screen, examine it a bit - you'll see that you can change the paths for everything to suit your system, you don't need to put things in the default locations for it to work - those default paths are there to simplify things, mainly to help out newcomers, but it isn't absolute Of course if you want to, by all means move your files to the default locations, but you still need to make sure the paths are correct in MAME Settings (i assume you've changed them from default).
  18. EDIT - changed my earlier booboo: 10800> 10880
  19. And we're off!! That's about the same as my best so far I think once you get more familiar with the levels, and get a rhythm going, the score will rack up Can't wait to see what the pro's get on this one. *Updated OP, DB, RSS.
  20. . Creating Custom MAME Lists
  21. You're the boss! I personally think people will enjoy this one, and we did take our time getting it out this month
  22. I'm clocking about 11k so far - not impressive i know, but damn this game is hard!
  23. MAME has changed dramatically recently, the latest versions including MESS. This came out of the blue and literally no one was prepared for it, let alone 3rd party frontend devs. Since then many developers have been scrambling to get to grips with the new code, and things will be "trial and error" for a while till something can be agreed upon. No one is to blame for this. It does however mean that some patience is required by all, to get through it as quickly a possible. And reliable as ever, Tom says: Which basically translates to: "I got this, check back soon coz i'll nail it! HARD." and you know it's true!
  24. While i agree, there is a discrepancy here. OP either could have tried to modify a theme, in which case they should replace the logos without renaming them, OR they are using the approach you outline above, which involves manually selecting logos from the dropdown. They differ (the two methods) somewhat in operation, and could be leading to the confusion in both the OP and us trying to support. It's something to consider i think
