  1. These new forums are baffling me on many levels how the fek i change ma sig?! PS: yes, i am a mod LOL! and if you are wondering bout my interests, proof:
  2. You did, yes, thanks! Please be aware though that while we strive to help as quick as possible, we are human and not everyone is an expert at everything. Model 2 issues are a specialist subject and historically have required somewhat niche knowledge to troubleshoot. Please be patient - someone will help you soon i'm sure

    3D objects

Since the original teaser vid for Evolution there were snippets of 3D objects being rendered in real-time in the new engine. I'd like to know if this is still on the cards? If so, how is the lighting determined - is it static or defined in the object for example, and also what is considered a reasonable polygon count for real-time rendering? I apologise if this is the wrong time and place, but i think our future theme builders would be interested in this kind of info
  4. I hated this! I could never get used to the UP/DOWN movement in isometric view Yet i'm pretty good at most flight simulators. It's just that view! It messes with my spacial senses heheh
  5. For the record, this happens mostly when your support files don't match your MAME version, or one or more of your paths are incorrect. Also, if you are running older versions of MAME it can happen if you come across the "Carn Evil Bug". Search it - i've said enough on the matter
  6. You answered most of your own questions, with your own answers!
  7. Try adding ahk to 'Launch on Startup' in the GamEx Settings, found @ Setup wizard> Tweaks/Performance.
  8. Xpadder does not like W10 ^-^ Try right clicking your xpadder.exe> Properties> Compatibility In Compatibility Mode, check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' Use the dropdown menu and select 'Windows 7', click 'Apply' In most cases this will sort it, if not let us know
  9. Hey RedDog, Looking at the log, both MAME and Daphne are kicking up errors, both in regards to your "E:" drive. This can be the result of a few things unfortunately. 1. Did you use an external drive when setting up GameEx? 2. If so, is it plugged in now and working? 3. Did you manually give this drive a letter ie M: O: or X: for example? If not, i would suggest powering it up before booting GameEx, assigning the drive a letter (given the circumstances i would assign "E:"), restart Windows then restart GameEx.
  10. Exactly Han. That is what i was hinting at. Punctuation in a command is bad news. Good clean paths is the order of the day. No slashes, no dashes, no stops, no commas etc. I want to point out obvious flaws but i feel people won't learn that way - instead i'm trying to get people thinking. So may be they will spot the errors themselves, and in turn broarden their minds. Should i instead just show the solution for a quick fix and be done? I like to think that people can still think PS: as a disclaimer, i know that a period, or fullstop is not a "world-ending" event, but windows handles a period/fullstop at the beginning of a file/folder as hidden, so does linux in fact, and so permissions are different and a lil complicated, hence probably why there is trouble above
  11. Hey folks, Usually i wouldn't encourage res'in an old thread, but in this case i think a point needs to be made. luger81 made a point, that his/her commandline is perfect - and that it is, given that his/her paths are correct. However, look at the screenshot they provided. There is something awry in the paths.. can you spot it? There are certain things you cannot use in a command, they may well include things like punctuation marks, spaces, italics and most certainly emojis
  12. @MO, i was gonna condemn you for your Kesha refs, then i realised - i love that girl! Nice score man. tha party don't stop no, whoah oh oh oh...
  13. You're on the right track!
  14. To understand why this happens you need to understand Program Hierarchy. A "shell", in this case "Instantsheller" is number one, top of the list - it's the king process. Anything else is a slave to this process. Therefore AHK must be loaded/executed after InstantSheller. Anything loaded before InstantSheller will be rendered basically useless (because it is effectively the top most process). There are a few ways you can remedy this, i would like to see if you can find them
  15. Hey Dennis, Is there a reason why you are using such an old version of MAME? I mean, 0.085 in emulation terms is ancient! Both MAME and GameEx have moved on so far from then, so many changes in how MAME works, so many updates to GameEx to accommodate them... I would advise ditching any notion of using your current set, and update everything, to at least MAME .137 (personally i would go .154+). You're going to get nowhere sticking to .085 and in all honesty - practically no one here will be able to help you, not because we don't want to, but simply coz we can't. MAME has changed, GameEx has changed, even OS's have. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but it's best you know from the start. I wish you well in your endeavour.
  16. Hey cnells, Usually in these circumstances it's a focus issue. The fact you mention the controller not working is a clue here. GameEx will always use your controller if it has focus, be it a gamepad, tankstick, ipac or even a $300 flightstick I suspect that after GE has loaded, something else is grabbing focus. It could be an Antivirus, a firewall, a third party program that has nothing to do with GE, in some situations it could even be Windows A simple way to test is to press ALT+TAB until GameEx regains focus, then see if your controller works.
  17. Dennis, you get how MAME works, right? I think you do, and that's why you're getting frustrated. Try these filters: OnlyWorking=True AllowImperfect=True VerifyRoms=False OnlyRoms=True Boot GameEx and hit Update List. If still not satisfied try this: Find the game filter: looks like this - GameFilter=Japan;Korea;Asia;Hispanic;Bootleg;French;German;Hack;Prototype... Delete "Japan;", so it looks like this: GameFilter=Korea;Asia;Hispanic;Bootleg;French;German;Hack;Prototype... (boot GE again and Update List) There are many Japanese arcade games out there that you didn't realise were japanese but you probably played them. Applying this little mod will show you most of them
  18. This is almost certainly the result of a mixed resolution theme. You should use a theme that is sympathetic to your monitor, and alter that. For reference, here they are: 4:3: 640x480 800x600 1024x768 16:9: 1280x720 1366x768 1600x900 1920x1080 16:10: 1280x800 1440x900 1680x1050 2560x1600 GameEx will handle any res theme, with any res assets, but in good practice you should try to match them for best results. A 1080p theme with 1080p assets, is gonna look much better than a 720p theme with 480p assets

    Total Newb

Bottom line is, run the 2600 how you want, with whichever emulator you choose. GameEx will literally (in the real sense of LITERALLY) run anything that is commandline compatible. That basically means 95% of all software available. Not just emulators but ALL software/apps/programs
  20. Hey Dennis, A few things seem out of place. I would suggest going through Setup again, selecting "Advanced" and going through it slowly, double checking all paths as you go. 9 times out of 10, a wrong path is the culprit
  21. Never used 4DO but try this: boot the emulator (outside of GameEx), go to Options> 4DO Settings. Under "General" tab, uncheck "When the main window loses focus, ignore keyboard". Click OK and exit the emulator. Keep your GameEx Advanced Config as it is ( [Mapping Off] Exit (ALT+F4) ) as it needs ALT+F4 to close. Boot GameEx, load a 3DO game, exit and report back with the usual files. Good luck!
  22. Agreed, because even though it has been stated in detail that this only an Alpha, and should be treated as such, i feel some may get over-excited ^-^ At least if disabled options are greyed-out/un-selectable, expectations at this point will be more realistic, and probably will lead to more constructive feedback as a result (rather than complaining about options that are not available yet)
  23. As a disclaimer of sorts, MS redists are known for dumping junk files on your most expansive drive (with the most space) and not cleaning themselves once installed. You are safe to trash 'em Highlighted in blue for the cautious: It will dump these files on whichever drive has the most free space regardless and is out of anyone's control. I can assure you all it's nothing to do with GameEx and you can safely remove all the files without consequence
  24. You basically said it yourself - in this kind of situation you'll have to do some hard work to get back to zero. It's not your fault, or anyone's in fact. Bottom line is there is never gonna be a "sweet spot" for anything when it comes to hardware, software or anything inbetween. To believe so is incredibly naive and short-sighted. You MAY need to do certain things in order for us to help you, I would suggest you do that because this team is on the ball far more than anything you have experienced elsewhere, guaranteed. Just saying.
