    nonMAME

I found one possible solution, but may require Tom's involvement. There is a command in the MAME32 Plus! GUI: Options->Export Game List... This creates a file (unless renamed) called "mame32us.lst" which is stored in the \<mame>\lang folder. When I opened this up in Notepad, it appears to be a simple listing of the games. It almost looks like a converted "verify.dat" which indicates if a game is working or not. There has to be a way to get a gamelist that GameEx can play with. Wasn't there a command line function in MAME that allows you to export the game list to a file? And this file is what GameEx uses when building the game list? Maybe MAME32 Plus! has a similar command line function that we can use instead?
  2. It would be really nice if something like Kaillera could be implemented in a future release after all the bugs are worked out. That would be soooo sweet to just go into a game, pull up a list of gamers waiting for competition or what not, and off they go. Or some way to communicate via the chat room and setup games to play together, then somebody launches the game from there. I wouldn't imagine it being too difficult, since everybody using the "CPViewer" would all be in the GameEx scene. For IRC chat, something I hope is that the function of the onscreen keyboard is secondary, and allows you to talk in it with a standard keyboard as well. The room should be labeled something distinct, and possibly be monitored by GameEx.info and only allow registered nicks to access. Maybe even as far as only allowing registered people to join the room. But as others have mentioned, not really sure how many people would use it. I visit the GameEx web chat room every now and then, but there's never anybody there. Lastly, I too would be willing to donate for this app/plugin if you can make it work. I'd like to try it out first before putting money into it's development. Kinda like the government's position on BigFoot/Sasquatch... "If you can provide 100% viable, irrefutable proof it exists, we will put money towards complete investigation and research... Not before!" Although I have no doubt this will be a blast!
  3. I pray it's nothing serious and hope your mom will be ok and recover quickly.

    nonMAME

Lol! It's still a valid question though isn't it? I mean, NONE of the nonMAME sets show up.

    nonMAME

With special thanks going out to Brian, I've now been peaked to intrest in these "nonMAME" romsets. I've got GameEx configured to use the right program, but it still only lists those roms which are on the official MAME release list. How can I get these nonMAME sets to display inside GameEx also? One game in particular is Pong. It doesn't show up in GameEx, but is a working, playable game through the program alone.
  6. I like to use MAME32 so I can can configure it easily, without needing to to manually create a config file.
  7. Yes, this is more like what I was referring to. It's not the built in SYSTEM screensaver. I'm referring to GameEx's screensaver, where it loads up MAME roms and EMU's. And like bkenobi stated, I have had it open a 3rd party application, minimize GameEx, and yet GameEx loads up its screensaver within a few minutes. I've considered setting the time limit later, but that kinda defeats the purpose for me. If you're not navigating in the system for over a minute, it's obvious you're not GOING to be, so it loads. So if Tom is watching this thread... Any chance of setting up the screensaver to only run while GameEx is active and inside it's own menu?

    Two questions

    Fire Fox Rules
  9. Ok, I love the screensaver and all, but I'm really getting sick of it opening up whenever it damn well pleases. I realize that it's designed to start after certain time period has alapsed as per my own settings. However, I don't like it loading up while inside the other apps and things. I'll be sitting here, trying to read my weather outlook, and BLAM! the screen saver starts on me. It's not only here though. It also happens while I'm browsing the website, or the forum, or the news, or watching videos, or playing music. If GameEx is running, the screensaver runs. The only period it doesn't seem to run (which is a shock) is when GameEx is updating to a new version, or GameEx is updating my MAME rom sets. Any other time, the screensaver will launch when least expected. Is there a way to configure the screensaver to load only while within the GameEx menuing system, and not while within an app?
  10. Any idea if there is a patch like this for MAME32? I'd really like to be able to make my disclaimers and "info" screens go away again....
  11. Way to go Brian! A well deserved promotion if you ask me.
  12. I'm not too familiar with AutoIt. I can figure out via your code how it works, but I don't have this compiler thing. If I can get the program names, can you make it for me?
  13. The way GameEx is designed, it launches the game by minimizing itself, the loads the program. GameEx waits until that program exits, then automatically brings itself up again, increasing the "Play Count" by one, and thus assuming the game has exited. I have a problem with this with one of my games. Silkroad Online launches a banner window, that loads a built in self-updater to make sure you have the latest version of the game. Once everything is ready, the "Launch Game" button becomes available. Whenever I load this from GameEx, it brings up the banner fine, but then once I click the Launch button, the "loader" closes and GameEx reopens. In actuality though, it really closes the "loader" and opens 2 more programs.. A cheating/bot detector/blocker and the actual game. The Bot Blocker app needs to be the top most window while it loads, or it crashes the program, assuming you have "hax". When the game itself loads, it crashes with some kinda Korean gibberish error code, basically saying (I belive) that the Bot Blocker app isn't running, and you can't play. So my question to the great forum community is... What can we do about this? I need to have some option where I can instruct GameEx to reopen after the actual game (SRO_Client.exe) closes, and not the "loader" program. Is this possible? Is there a way to cheat GameEx into thinking it's still running if I use a BAT file maybe? Have GameEx call the BAT file, which loads the game, then once the game closes, it closes the BAT, bringing up GameEx again? What do ya'll think? I don't have the game, but I imagine this program would also arise in World of Warcraft (WoW), and other such MMORPGs. Speaking of which, when I was playing Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) through GameEx, I had this same problem, and resolved it by just playing the game outside of GameEx, but it's not as cool that way.
  14. I dunno, I prefer BAT files because they're easy to make. I also made it a BAT file so I could place it in the STEAM program folder. I was afraid it wouldn't work without it being in the same folder as STEAM, but I guess that doesn't really need to be true since it looks in the TaskManager for the image Steam.exe rather than just killing the actual program from the folder. Oh well, more work than is needed I guess.
  15. Ok, for all you people who are using Steam, here's what you do... Tell Steam to create a shortcut to the game on your Desktop. Then, move all these shortcut links (*.lnk) into a folder, call it STEAM if you want. Now, setup your GameEx to have an emulator called STEAM (of course), and set it up with the working path and rom path pointing to that folder you created. Now, set the rom filter to *.lnk. Command line is [ROMPath]\[RomFile]. Setup your artwork paths if you want to. On page 2, make sure you have Map keys set to NO, and Show Desktop set to YES. On Page 3, you want the "Launch After" to point to the following BAT file: taskkill /f /im Steam.exe Save the BAT file as something simple, like "CloseSteam.bat". This will kill the Steam application completely. The /f is the flag to tell it to FORCE close the application, regardless of it's state, and the /im flag tells taskkill the file to close is an image file, called "Steam.exe." I put this bat file in the STEAM root directory, but you can put it anywhere you want. Thats it. Not too hard. I was setting this up as well a few weeks ago, and had a fun time trying to figure out how to close Steam when I exited CS:S too. This little BAT file does the trick! Enjoy!
  16. HK, as long your product meets the quality of all your previous "upgrades" and "plugins" you've set up with Game Ex, I'll use it no matter the server it's hosted on. One quick question (off topic), will this chat function in the CPViewer allow you to use a regular keyboard as well as the onscreen keyboard? I type faster than controlling a little cursor around to type with.
  17. Minor Request: Ability to display a line on the main menu called "Play Last Game", in which case it runs the runitgame.bat file. This feature could be enabled/disabled in the setup. I tried to set it up in emulators, but because some roms are goodmerged, gameex can't read the extracted roms for some reason...
  18. Even though I'm on the list; I wanted to say thanks to everybody else too. This is the best forum community on the web! We should all get together in 30 years and have a reunion party on Tom's private island with all his 100's of naked babes serving us drinks and playing games with us!
  19. I'm not able to login to the site. To we all need to re-register?
  20. Just to throw this out there.. does anybody know how to modify the bezel to make it looks good with a widescreen tv? I'd like to have it be full screen, rather than have the bezel and then still have black bars on the sides. Not that important, just curious.
  21. That's what I figured it was. Would it be possible setup something like a "game of the week" within MAME too? It would be awesome if we could use the hiscore dats with that. Then we could play for high scores and have our scores posted to the website. When you bring up the menu within MAME, you could have the first 3 lines or so be the High Scores and the GameEx player's names. Then have the typical MAME details. You could even store a database on the web that lists the previous high scores and games of the week, so you could go back and play previous weeks' games.
  22. Sorry, just got a free moment to update. The problem still exists. I don't know what it could be exactly. I've now also been able to have it error like this without watching TV first. It just seems to happen randomly. What's wierd though, is that it will load the "TITLE" screen fine, but then crash when it's loading up the menu. I shouldn't really say loading the menu, it crashs before it starts to display anything. All I can see is the "GameEx" title, then it crashes, and goes back into MCE. 23. Nah, I think I just forgot what it was called. Been awhile since I've updated my settings. Been trying to get my new HTPC built.
  24. I've been able to replicate this twice now. If a video is playing from within MCE, and GameEx is launched, it will crash with a DirectX error. Both times it happened, I was watching TV. I have been able to load GameEx from within MCE however as long as nothing is playing in the background. Error log has been sent, and is posted here: 23:53:52.1 7/19/2007: GameEx: Version 8.57: Starting Log 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Operating System Platform: Win32NT 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Operating System Name: Windows Vista 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Operating System Version: 6.0.6000 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Vista Aero running 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Initializing Vista volume control 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Checking for versions of .net Framework installed 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: .net Framework 1.1 Installed 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: .net Framework 2.0 Installed 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Intel® Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: 2.4Ghz - 2 Cores or CPU's 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Running Randomize() 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Loading PlugIns 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Checking for applications to Launch On Startup 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Running Misc startup tasks 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Setting Menu types 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Opening Configuration File 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Getting Configuration Values 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Using Theme: Default - Hybrid Blue - Widescreen 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: Default - Hybrid Blue - Widescreen 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Launching HideOS.exe 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Initialising Video/MNG DLL's 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Hiding Taskbar 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Is Media Center running? 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Media Center is running 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Checking/Creating LCD Registry values 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Check Media Center Exit/Start Mode 23:53:52.2 7/19/2007: Media Center Mode 2 23:53:52.3 7/19/2007: Closing Media Center 23:53:52.5 7/19/2007: Video previews on.
