  2. Yeah, it doesn't work for me... Just comes up with a ParaJVM error that it can't find the rom file. It shows the full path right, up to \roms, but then it has the rom title: M:\_CONSOLES\GCE Vectrex\ParaJVE\data\roms\BEDLAM correct path should be: M:\_CONSOLES\GCE Vectrex\ParaJVE\data\roms\cartridge\Bedlam.bin Maybe I have a newer version of ParaJVM than the map file? Its version 0.7.0.
  3. I've never used maps; do I need to point GameEx's ROMPATH to just the "ParaJVE\data\roms" folder, or do I need to do something else? That roms folder has 4 subfolders too, in which the "games" are in "cartridge", and theres other homebrews, etc.
  4. I never heard of ParaJVE and Kat5200. I'll check those out. As for Bliss; I tried using it, but it doesn't like the roms for some reason. I can't figure out how to set it up. When I have GameEx launch a rom, the screen is just black. [EDIT] ParaJVE looks awesome, and I didn't have to setup anything. How can I make it work in GameEx?
  5. It said it was an unrecognized switch or something. I'm using 143u2. Maybe an older version needed that? There is no window or task bar on the screen when it's running. All my MESS consoles are getting setup pretty nicely, and they all work without that switch. OK, so I got a no-intro complete set of Vectrex. It has roms, boxes, screenshots, and artwork. I can get it all to work, but I can't remember how to setup the artwork/overlays to work inside of MESS. Do I need to move them all to the MESS folder structure, or is there a way to configure MESS to find them elsewhere? Goin to bed.
  6. I dunno what I did, but it works now... I read on the MESS website that it doesn't require unzipping. Unzipping is only necessary if there are multiple roms in a single zip, cause MESS can't understand that. What I did discover, though, through using the debug option in GameEx, and a little cut paste, is that GameEx was setup to use mess.exe, and I have mess64.exe and messui64.exe. That might cause some problem. Also, there's a builtin command line flag on GameEx that uses -noneui or something like that, which the latest version of MESS no longer uses. Nice to know. Back to setting up more stuff!
  7. Man what a pain figuring out how to configure these emulators! I got Stella to work flawlessly with Atari 2600. MAME is a breeze now too. Trying to setup MESS. I'm just trying to get the Channel F to work. I got all the "bios" roms in the mess/roms folder. I can launch the Channel F console from messui, but I can't get it to find the games... Does MESS require games to be unzipped?
  8. Will HK's MAME compiler also compile MESS? It would be nice if I could get a compile that disables the nag screen...
  9. Yup, did the trick! Any word on if this works directly through GameEx?
  10. This doesn't seem to be true for me. I tried to login, but it said it was an unknown account and to register. I tried to register, and it said only one account per email! Something screwy going on there..
  11. I figured it out.... I was trying to do all the compiling on a different drive OTHER THAN C:\.... All the compiling tools and what not were installed in C:\MinGW.., so the program didn't know I had a different path. I just moved my source and patches folders over and it seems to be working good now.
  12. Heh yeah sounds fun, if i can find chat! HEHE so many new things!
  13. Heh, I'm off tomorrow; gonna have plenty of time to fool around with this.
  14. HERE: http://www.gameex.com/Download.aspx under the link "Themes-Databases.7z - 23MB - Download".. also visable in the GameEx setup... But ARGH!!! I hate compiling my own MAME! HK's compiler is helpful, but not. So, I downloaded the SOURCE from mamedev (currently 143). Then I downloaded the update diffs (u1, u2). I then went and got the 143u2 version of the hi diff. Then I went and downloaded the MameUI source for 143u2. Extracted all the diffs to /patches, extracted the MAME source to /source/mameUI143u2, copied the "winui" folder to /source/mameUI143u2/src/osd, copied the file "winui.mak" (instructions on HK's site say it's mameui.mak but that file doesn't exist) to /source/mameUI143u2. Whenever I try to apply the 1st diff patch, it says: Applying Diff Patch... Error Applying Patch. PatchDiff(): The system cannot find the file specified Need a little help!!!
  15. Thanks guys. I'll take a look at SkinnyMatch. I forgot all about MAME compiler! I remember when HK wrote that! He was the man back in the day; did a lot of VP stuff too. Where can I find the new themes? I only see the odd assortment that was always around via the homepage...
  16. If you remember my other thread, I'm back from from disasters 1 and 2. I'm looking for a few good pointers, tips, suggestions to get me started. So, I've started my ROM downloading. A long, slow, painful process that even now has taken me about 2 weeks to get only about half what I had before. Basically what I've done is create a text file with a listing of every console, pc, and handheld ever made, and included the year it was released. The way I had my GameEx setup before, I had each emulator listed with it's release year first, so it sorta categorized them in order from oldest to newest. As of right now, in my ROM downloading, I'm up to "1990 Amstrad GX4000". This includes about 25 or so older systems as well. While downloading these ROMS, I'm trying to stay true to the "No-Intro" version, as I recall they were the best to use. I remember using GoodSets before, but there was a lot of CRAP in them, which is why No-Intro was better in my case. Some of them have to be TOSEC though since there's no better set available. That being said, a lot of my "extras" like screenshots and box art are in either Good or No-Intro format. So question #1 is; 1) Has anybody come up with a way to rename artwork extras and ROMs so they all match? And a way to match with GameEx's built in databases (you're still using those right?) Also, just started today, I've begun my ROM downloads of MAME. MAME has come a long way I believe from when I last used it. I went to the mamedev website and downloaded the 64-bit Windows version (since I'm using Windows 7 64-bit). Just for giggles to make sure it would WORK, I ran the executable. It loaded up the main game play area, but had a big red bar on it that no roms were found. DUH. Question #2; 2) Has MAME lost it's built in front end for configuring things like paths, and setting up the controller? I haven't as of yet started to get any emulators for my ROMS, since ROM downloading is taking all the time and bandwith. Just to pick out my favorite console, (it was the only one I had till I was old enough to buy my own) Sega Genesis had a while ago many different emulators to choose from. From MESS, to Kega, to Gens, etc. So Question #3; 3) What are the best emulators to use? I'm very excited about the new features GameEx has to offer. To rekindle my intrest, I watched all the YouTube videos posted on the GameEx homepage. A lot of the videos were just old things I already knew about, but some of them were really cool. Like a new start page with Weather? A spinning 3D arcade cabinet preview? Cool! Last question; 4) Which is the best theme to use these new features, or are they not yet released? Thanks a lot for your guy's help. Hope to hear from ya soon!
  17. Alright, thanks for the heads up Adultery.
  18. Yeah I'm really glad to see theres still production going on, and that Tom's still with it. I was afraid he'd moved on to bigger better things and open sourced GameEx to be left in the public's future. I'm happy to see that's not the case. Hey Tom; do you know if my old GameEx key will still work with the latest versions? I haven't tried it yet, and was just wondering. If not, can you send me a rebuilt one for the latest version? The last email I got said it would need 8.53 or later.
  19. Yeah I remember Adultery, Frequency, and HeadKaze. I didn't want to say your names because I didn't want to look like a fool if you weren't still here! I'm doing good. Working in a deli at a grocery store (don't know how long, but it's been long enough I've almost replaced everything BIG I lost). It looks to me like a LOT has changed in the GameEx system. Watching the YouTube video on the home page has got me really excited about getting back in. The 3D spinning arcade cabinets is new and kinda neat, as is the ability to change the layout from within the program. I'm just totally lost now, once again, on where to begin. I used to have all my ROMS properly named, with matching box art, video screenshots, and everything loading up right. Now I gotta re-download all those again and see if I can remember how to get them to all renamed properly to match up. Gonna be a fun project to do. Glad to know some of my old guys are still around to keep me company!
  20. Well, it's certainly been a LONG time since I was last here. For many of you, I'm probably a new face, but to a few of you I'm a very well known user/supporter. I'm not sure how many of my old friends are still here, but I'm hoping to make new ones. So hows about a little history of where I am and where I come from. For starters, I was an original beta tester (or whatever you would call it) of GameEx from way back like around the 1.x days when GameEx was still in its infancy. I was a paid supporter and have actually donated outside of purchasing a license. I've provided a lot of backend support with offerings such as tutorials on setup and key suggestions for new features and ideas. I believe the latest version I had been running was like 3.10 (I think that's what it was, I do recall a reformat into a "version 2 theme"). Then the unthinkable happened. Enter long delay since visiting #1; THE FIRE Our home was attacked by an arsonist back on May 28th, 2009 at 2:20am. I remember it excatly because it was my birthday, and I was up watching TV when it happened. We live in a condo building (your typical apartment strip only we BUY instead of RENT the indivdual address). These condos were built in the late 1960's and, needless to say, were not up to current 21st century safety codes and standards. There was a common attic space that was "shared" by all residents, although access to the attic was sealed by a 1-foot square trap door in the closet. You couldn't really get up there to store anything, and was really just a means of crawspace for electricians and cable tv installers. The walls between each apartment were substandard 1960's drywall and plaster, filled with lead paint and asbestos. The fire broke out in an empty unit, 5 doors down from where we live. Within 10 minutes, the fire had spread to the attic and was then free to spread amongst all the other units in the building. Once there, the smoke detectors began going of in the next unit over (still 4 from us) and the guy got outside and woke everybody else up in the building to evacuate. 15 minutes after starting, the smoke and heat had made it all the way to our unit, and it was already noticably "crackling" in the attic above my bedroom. I had just enough time to put on my clothes with my wallet and collect 1 cat and our dog. The other cat was stuck inside when the fire chief came to tell me to leave. For the next 20 minutes, we sat across the street as we watched the fire burn out the roof. At around 50 minutes past the initial start of the fire, the fire trucks finally started to spray out a foam that extinguished the fire. But this was too long a time, and the damage had already been done. Water damage from the hoses destroyed everything in the place, and the 2nd floor (where my bedroom is, and essentially everything I owned) was pretty much gone. Where the roof had collapsed, the entire floor was covered in ash and suit and burned up drywall. Salvaging was a pain, because it rained a few days and there was no roof, and the weight of everything above the room was covering everything to save. I managed to grab my computers, stereo, speakers, my box of comics, and 2 xboxs. Everything else was just gone. We stored everything in a storage garage place for 13 months while contractors rebuilt the apartment/condo. This time they used new 21st century fire retardant materials. The attic now had "firewalls" between each unit to protect against a spreading fire. I still had no idea if what I salvaged was actually "salavaged". Once we moved back in, I fired up the computer and found it still worked. This was my first return venture back to GameEX. I reported this horrific event, much to the shock of many people here, and hoped a fund raising PayPal account would rebuild some of the things I lost in the fire. Unfortunately, only 1 person in the whole world donated, and it was $20, and he's from Canada, and he's never even met me before (we play Halo almost every night together though!). Enter long delay since visiting #2; THE HARD DRIVES Needless to say, everything "seemed" to be ok. The stereo and speakers didn't make it. The speakers, being made of wood, had absorbed water from the fire hoses and swelled and split while in storage. Water had caused the metalic case of the stereo to rust. I was willing to ignore the rust, but the electrical equipment inside was failing. I connected a pair of headphones to it, and it popped, hissed, cracked, etc. So they didn't make it. My 37-inch LCD tv didn't make it either. The firefighters had thrown it to the ground to get to the wall behind it, and the screen cracked. The Xbox's seemed ok for a while, but one of them got an E-74 Red Ring of Death error after playing on it for about 3 hours after hooking it up. Microsoft sent me a new one free of charge to replace it. The other xbox hasn't failed yet (knock on wood). My comics faired better than anything else, since I had them all in plastic bags! Since the fire, I've replaced all the bags though, and the box they were in, just to be safe. My computers though, were another story. My main computer is one I built from scratch to use Media Center on to replace my cable box. I also had GameEx installed on it. Within about 3 weeks though, the main boot drive of that computer died. I had to replace it with a new one, and upgraded the OS to Windows 7. Of course, GameEx then for some reason stopped working, so I stopped playing games for a while. My 2nd computer is a Windows Home Server. Custom built, with 4.8 terrabytes or so of storage space, where I store all my TV Shows, Movies, Pictures, Music, and daily computer backups. The server has 10 drives in it, all of which have failed over the last year except for 2; the main boot drive, and the drive I download torrents to. Luckily, they failed one at a time, so I never lost of any of my storage. The last drive to fail though, was my storage drive back on the Media Center computer. That drive had all my Recorded TV shows, un-backed up Photos, p0rn (hehe), and GameEx with all my games. It has been probably 8 months or more since I've done anything at all with GameEx. Mostly because I've not had time (I got a job to start replacing my losses) and I've been trying to catch up on TV shows I missed for a year. With my GameEx drive dead, I've not had a chance to replace it yet. As of right now, I've been working on trying to re-download all my emulators and roms (which was a long period of over time collecting) and trying to get them organized for when I jump back into GameEx. So I just wanted to report, that I AM still alive () and things are slowly getting back to where I was before the fire. I was a bit shocked when I looked a few days ago and saw GameEx was now up to v 11.90. WOW. There's so much more in here now I'm sure, and I'm going to need a lot of help getting everything set back up to the way it was. With that in mind though, let me just say; I'm Back, and I'm glad to be back!
  21. Heh no problem Tom. I know your're usually right on the spot with a quick reply, and I figured something had happened like that. Sorry Emph.. I didn't mean to forget you in my greetz from before.. it's just been way to long.
  22. Cool.. I thought NoIntro sounded right, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for that. I guess all I need to know now is the details about the intro videos, and I'll be set. Greetz to my old friends... Adultery, TSpiers (yay tom!), bkenobi, HeadKaze, acidbrain, etc..
  23. I've been gone a while. Got a job, then got an XBOX360. Been way to busy with things and haven't had time to mess around with the ol' GameEx box for a while. I went to load it up the other day and it said I needed an update. (Big surprise, Tom was always making updates!). I wanna get back into thing again. I lost my job, and I have a lot of free time on my hands. So what have I missed? Is there anything I should be checking out right away? I had to re-register at my favorite ROM Torrents site (everybody probably knows it already) because they pruned me out. I'm gonna start downloading my roms again. I looked at the folders and they're out of date really bad. So I was wondering, what format should I get. I remember GoodMerge was kinda going out the door since they had EVERYTHING included, like bad dumps and hacks. I want to stay away from those. If my brain is still working, I want the "NoIntro" sets correct? Also, did I see something a while back that the intro video's and things were going to be stopped being made? And what about the work that was being done on the game information databases... was that ever completed? Help an old pal out guys! - Han

    Whats new?

I mean the community and the software. I been gone sooo long! Last thing I heard, Hk was still working out bugs with the CPWizard, Adultery just stepped down for being moderator, and Tom was going on vacation. I see there is a new search function built into GameEx now. That's pretty awesome. I gotta go back and fix my setup though. Anytime a game comes up with a video screenshot, my computer hangs and crashes. Still..it's good to be back!

    Whats new?

Hey my friends! How's it going? I feel so bad that I've neglected all of you. I need to get back into my gaming. I was just sitting here watching some TV on my media center, and saw commerical that had Sonic the Hedgehog playing in the background. I thought to myself.. man I haven't played that in a long time. So I tried to launch up Game Ex , and suddenly I remembered all the fun I had participating with everybody here. So, I'm back! Whats new?
