Yeah, I just forgot to go back and complete this thread. On a side note; GameBase really is awesome. Some of these computer systems can be quite a b!tch to configure. It will work with 1 rom, but not another, and you spend forever trying to figure out why..turns out its because the computer needs more RAM to run it, or the game is on a disk or tape not a cartridge. With GameBase, it takes all the guess work out, and automatically configures the emulator you're using with the right settings so the game runs. And (I assume) every game has been tested to work with the given settings (via the databases) so you don't have to worry. Still, I'd like to see some way of incorporating some EmuMovies into these computers, but on the other hand--Commodore64 has 21000 games, that's a LOT of videos.

OOps, slipped my mind. Yea it works now.

Draco; I'm not setting this up as a stand alone emulator, I'm using GameBase. Thats why I have the problem, since there's no way to edit and add a "Send Keys" to a GameBase GEMUS, and there's no way to tell GameEx to send it for this system only while using GameBase.

The reason it does this is because if you have more than 1 emulator, GameEx searches your databases for matching titles. For instance, you could have a game in MAME (like Mario Brothers), and it can also exist on the Nintendo NES, GameBoy, etc. So the loading of databases happens so you can find the game on the other systems as well. On the other hand, I agree that the extra loading can be a bit bothersome, especially in my case where I have over 50 systems. I wonder if we can maybe break up the databases, so it only loads the information about the ROM (like, the description stuff) when you access that system, and then the matching database be a separate one. Only access the "matching" database when loading GameEx, and then the individual "information" database when you access that system...

I'm not sure what the advantages are to a HitBox. I never even heard of it till today. A quick look at the website cured that, but it's not something I'd be particulary interested in, especially at that price. Anybody can map a joystick to buttons.. big deal.

HAHAH!! Awesome!

Here's how I (currently) have my Custom Menu setup. It's really nice in that you can call each item whatever you want, it doesn't have to match the actual setting in the GameEx setup wizard. As you can see, I've added a year at the beginning of my systems. I had originally done this manually in the setup wizard a few years ago, when GameEx would autosort alphanumerically. Now with the Custom Menus, I can move them around whereever I want. You can also add things, like my console emulator for Casio Loopy, where I've added a (not working) since I haven't found a good way to make it work. At the top of the list, I've added a blank "-" to separate the list features from the rest of the games. The only "urk" I have is with the GameBase selections, as it doesn't show the system, just "GameBase System #". This can be a problem when you added more GameBases; if the new system added doesn't go to the next available slot, but rather back to say #2, your custom config mappings get all screwed up.

Wow, that's old school. I remember the home page before you added your signature D-Pad logo. Ahhh the memories.

Thanks for addressing a few of my issues Tom. I'm downloading it now, will try out that SpeccyMania GameBase, and see about the show desktop feature. If that was included because of my Atari 800 issue I was having, I should mention I got it fixed. I just have trouble now with the Atari ST "beta" dll dialog box.

That could work too... You reading this Tom? Lol

Sorry to hear about your loss Krakerman. It's always hard to put down a pet, because they can't express their pain as easily as humans can. My payers are with you and your family during this time of sorrow. We've been lucky a number of times with 1 of our cats, "Tippie". When he was really young, there would be some nights where he was just screaming at the top of his lungs, and we didn't know what was wrong. Took him to the vet, found out he had Urinary Track problems, where his food was causing his urine to crystalize (YOU try peeing out like "frozen" pee). It was kinda like he had kidney stones, but not exactly. That was our first close call. The 2nd one was just here in the last few months. He was always a really heavy cat, like 30 pounds I think. When he walked, his belly dragged just a half inch above the floor. Then all of a sudden, he started throwing up a LOT. He lost all his weight and now just has a sack of skin hanging, along with very obvious bones (kinda like Fat Bastard from Austin Powers). We thought it might have been cancer, or thyroid, or allergies to fleas. We've had a really rough flea season this year, and he's covered in scratches and patches where he's scratched his fur down to skin. But, since this is the 2nd close call, he's doing much better now. We got some anti-flea pills and he actually took 2 of them. He's not scratching, so his fur is starting to grow back. He's not throwing up anymore, and he's started eating again. He's at least 12 years old (in human years), and we have his litter mate brother too, only he's not had any problems at all. We feel blessed that he's still with us, and he shows his appreciation all the time buy cuddling up in our laps, purring, etc. I hope you and your family can recover from your loss and wish you the best.

Meh, I'd buy that Camaro in the last pic. Just needs a little paint, new windshield. Wonder if they'd sell it to me for real cheap?

I bought a new car when I was 21. Mom went with me just incase I needed a co-signer. When it was all said and done, I drove off the lot with it, and it had 9 miles on it. What really sucked is mom divorced my dad so she could go date the guy who sold me the car. THEN he sold her a brand new car for $20,000 off the tag. His bosses found out, fired him. He moved in with her "till he got a new job". He started (or always had been) dealing drugs. Got arrested. Mom bailed him out. He said he'd pay her back, that was 10 years ago. They broke up, he threatned to have her killed (the drugs talking I'm sure). She moved out of her place in fear, was fined $1200 for contract breach from her rental office. Now she's unemployed, $1200 in debt from her apartment, $3000 in dept from her bailing, $8000 in debt because her car was repo'd after she moved out (she didn't tell anybody her new address because of fear of murder retaliation, so the GPS in the car led the repo guys to it, and they got it while she was at work!). Long story short, don't break up a 23-year marriage to date a black car dealer because he was sweet on ya and got you a car for $20 grand less than you should.

Yeah I know the GameEx Live doesn't show a lot of games, thats why I mentioned it. My Last Played list right now though goes back 111 games. As for Most Played, it's only showing 9 right now, which I guess self-corrected itself since the last time I looked. But the Last Played list definately needs adjusted.
-
Just a curious question for Tom... Why does the "Last Played Games" menu option display ALL games played? Theoretically (did I spell that right?), wouldn't that list take up a lot of space over the course of say, YEARS? I think it'd be safe to limit this down to maybe 20 games? The same is true for the "Most Played Games", maybe limit the list to 20 of the most, instead of ranking each and every one. My "Most Played" list has a ton of games that just say I played them once. So how can that be "most played"? Maybe only list them after they reach 5 plays, and even then, only the top 20? Just a thought. Mod masters will probably want to put this in the Feature Request thread, but I felt it important enough to get Tom's direct attention in case he doesn't read that thread very often.

Atari ST is the big one for me. This is the one computer I'm most desiring to get up and running properly. I've grabbed a copy of "GBST v3.1d" and have it all setup using the STeem emulator. I had this working years ago before the fire, but now it's giving me all kinds of trouble. For starters, GameBase is configured to primarily use STeem v3.2 as it's GO-TO emulator. It appears to be the one it uses for 98% of the games. All my favorites so far (like 50 or so) all seem to want to load with that emulator. This is ok I guess. My problem comes in the LAUNCHING of the emulator though. Apparently, STeem v3.2 is an unofficial release (it was included in the package, so I'm using it rather than something older). It's still a beta, or at least one of the DLL's are. Everytime it starts to load up, I get a comment prompt saying the DLL is in beta. Of course, this very easily disappears with the click of the [OK] button, or a press of the ENTER key. The problem is, when GameEx is used, you never see this prompt. The screen loads up black, and appears to be hanging, and not doing anything at all, when in fact it's just waiting for the dialog box to disappear so it can load. This one little problem is proving to be quite the adversary! So I need help in attacking this problem. Here are some way's I've already thought of, but haven't tried yet since I'm waiting for a positive solution from here (I've also posted this at the GameBase forums)... 1) Don't use STeem v3.2 and use an older OFFICIAL version instead. 2) Replace the beta DLL with an official one from an older version of STeem. 3) Detect some method of disabling the DLL dialog box from STeem. 4) Enable some kind of command to add to the GameBase GEMUS ini files. 5) Have Tom build a better implementation of GameBase access in GameEx to allow additional functionality. I'd really like to get #5, since this would include basic functionality already available from other emulators, such as: Mapping EmuMovies to replace static screenshots, Adding artwork for controller images, Extra input options to allow "send keys" so I can bypass that warning, Better display of what GameBase is being loaded (so in the Custom Menu program, you don't see the generic "GameBase System 1, GameBase System 2, GameBase System 3, etc.), Have the SCREENSHOT show up in the GameEx Live Tag rather than the title screen. But lets not get ahead of my original request here... A solution to some how automating a key press to start the emulator. You guys are awesome, so any ideas or suggestions are very welcome!

So what was it Tom? I thought it might have to be because of the emulator "slot" it's in. I had a similar problem ealier last week when I added my "PC - Microsoft Windows" emulator in slot #255. It just wouldn't load any list at all. I was about to post about it, but then I moved the number up to like 40-something and it worked. Thought that might be a similar issue with this. Still, glad you got it fixed, will wait for the release (I'm in no hurry).

Hey guys, been awhile since I created this thread. Having a bit of problem here. Since Nolo's stuff is all gone now, his loader isn't here anymore either. There was discussion of the new Loader that Tempest wrote, but I'm having trouble passing the rom through it. GameEx just "crashes" back to GameEx. The runitgame.bat file doesn't work either. I tried a command prompt and pasting the command line in, but it doesn't work for that either. I just skips down to the next command prompt. Is the loader not compatible with Windows 7, or 64-bit? Nevermind, turns out it was because it was a bad DISK. WinApe didn't like it. I tried a few others, and they worked.

Glad I wasn't giving wrong information about that. I didn't think it would let a multiple press, that just sounded odd.
-
Actually, I just used the prebuilt database, and just moved it over. When I did that with the Commodore64, it prompted me to do the update, and did so. I don't know how to initiate an upgrade... However, here is the MDB:SpeccyMania.rar

Oh well. I'm sure we'll meet eventually.

Feature & Enhancement Requests
hansolo77 replied to Tom Speirs's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
#1 - You can! Not sure what the mapping would be in your specific case, but for me, it's button #1 (the top left button on the controller). #2 - Good point. It already remembers the last played games, there should be another menu option for Last Searched games. #3 - Theme modifications are always being worked on, and the last flux of new updates is proof of this. Give Tom time to work out all the bugs, I'm sure anything you want will eventually be worked out! -
Got a problem with GameBase SpeccyMania (Sinclair ZX Spectrum). Everything works great out side of GameEx. I lists all the games, and plays them fine. However, when loading up the game list in GameEx, only 1 game shows: "1000". I don't know what the problem could be. Since (I assume) GameEx is using the built in GameBase database for the game list, there's no way to update the list (like you can with MAME). It acts like it only sees 1 game, and it's not even the last game I played outside of GameEx. Any ideas? Log: CustomMenu.ini: GameEx.ini: GameEx.rar

I'm relatively new to the whole Global Exit key combo thing. From what I can tell though, it just works on a key COMBO, not multiple presses of the same key. Perhaps if you map the home button and another button? Like HOME+START. I don't think you can have it work by pressing the same button over and over.
