  1. Without even going into the log yet, can I make a suggestion? Dump MAME32 for the Windows command line version of MAME. MAME32 is a GUI version of MAME, it's not pure MAME. What you are doing is running a GUI inside of a GUI. You're going to have conflicts as a few members have found out. go here.... http://www.mamedev.org/ All the best, IMBerzerk
  2. Whoops... sorry... I was kinda wondering what a Fruit Machine was? A Juicer? All serious though, the MAME project is more about emulating the game true to it's original state, rather than just emulating it. Maybe they have not gotten around to adding code for these. If it's the type that you see in Vegas, Chuckie Cheese or Dave & Buster's, then I highly doubt you'll ever see them emulated. Those are not video games, they are just gambling machines. IMB
  3. Not sure why you're posting MAME questions here, but I can help you understand why it doesn't work well. What MAME and/or any other emulator (Raine, MESS, ZNES, etc.) does is make your PC think it's the machine it's emulating. The reason why some Arcade games are slow no matter what the PC power is, is because of design. Your PC is managing video, sound, cycles... RAM.. etc.. etc.. etc.. the real arcade game is just playing the game based on the chip instructions. So newer/bigger games like Cruisin' USA and others like it will never play right on a PC until we get into the 10+ GHz CPU range... and even then, they may not work right. It's simply the design of the game that kills the PC. This was always a hot topic on the MAME Dev forum until it was closed. I hope this helps a little. IMBerzerk
  4. Thanks Brian. Yes, I'd like to keep the mouse active. At one point, I had one of those programs that hides everything, but was more of a headache than anything else. I'll load it and let you know how it goes. IMB
  5. I found the problem. Not sure if it's a theme issue or GameEx issue. But the music tool bar disappears when the mouse is disabled.
  6. Tom, I am using the Future Retro theme (which is a great theme) and I am seeing the mouse pointer/egg-timer more than I'd like to. It's a real problem with CCS64. When it loads, the eggtimer is smack in the middle of the screen and only goes away when I move the spinner/mouse. I see it before MESS loads, but it does not stick around, it promptly disappears. Any ideas for getting rid of it permanently or when it's not being used? Also, I found out why my music toolbar disappeared. I disable the mouse function in my config, which I guess turns off the player tool bar? I don't understand why, but as soon as I re-enabled the mouse function, the music toolbar came back. Thanks for your help. IMBerzerk.
  7. Darn... I guess this one stumped everyone too...
  8. I've been working on my setup like mad (Berzerk) lately, and somehow I lost all the song information from the top of my screen. I am using the Future Retro theme, where normally it's right at the top, with a little 2-bar volume level indicator. How the heck did I loose this. I have to say, at the time, my daughter was sitting on the stool next to me, talking and holding the mouse, clicking away while I was doing things in the cabinet... so who knows. All I know is I can't find it in all the menus, and everywhere I think it should be. Also... I know I can turn off the ability of the mouse to click, but what about the mouse pointer? That's still active and when I run my C64 emulator, the mouse is deadcenter in 'eggtimer' mode. Thanks as always... IMBerzerk
  9. You don't. You have to keep trying until you get one that fits or works well. Some will work well, other may not based on your PC, the monitor... etc.. etc.. Each theme also has it's own *.ini file that might have some settings turned on and off. You can look through those as well. There is a lot of trial and error with the Themes. You just have to keep trying them till you are happy with one. I use Future Retro, but it's a version 2 theme. I like the layout, the colors are dull, but it matches the look of my cabinet. Of course, as you get better with GameEx, you can design your own. IMBerzerk
  10. Somehow... I know... I will NEVER live that one down... LOL! ITC... hmmm...
  11. Sorted. I used the new GameEx built-in Key Re-mapper for a very interesting panel configuration. I now can maneuver through the required menus, access the disk menu, flip the joystick mapping if I have to... etc. A little more than I needed, but it works great. I'm happy I can play all those multiple disk games now. Thanks for all the help guys. It great I can come back and rely on such helpful folks on this forum. IMBerzerk
  12. I did. I tried m::alt8 Autohotkey doesn't like it. It likes the command, m::!8 but it doesn't seems to do anything with it in CCS64. The same command statement works fine in WinVice. The drive selection comes right up. But WinVice is requires a lot more keystrokes with <TAB> to access the games, and it's not as good as CCS64.
  13. Oh well.. this isn't working quite as I expected. For some reason, the CCS64 does not like the AutoHotKey inputs, it works great on everything else though. How did you assign the keystroke that picked up only the selection of the next disk? Is this 'Alt-8' for Drive 8? In AutoHotkey I have it as m::!8 which means that my 'm' key will simulate the Alt-8 keystroke. But all I get in CCS64 is an '8' when I press my 'm'. That's semi correct as it sees the '8' but not the 'Alt' keystroke. Any other program, this all works. If the best I can do is use the 'F9' assignment in the GameEx config I made, that's OK too, as I can navigate to the Drive 8 and select the next Disk. Then it will jump back into the emulation. It would be really great if HeadKaze's AdvancedConfig tool allowed for dual keystrokes. So I could assign 'M' to 'Alt-8'. Then we'd have it all covered.
  14. OK, I'm almost there, a little more tweaking as what I have is not the same as what your's does. Your setup goes right into the disk selection, mine starts at the main menu, then I have to naviagte to it. But I see the problem, and I can fix it. A little more work and I'll have it mapped to the key I need it set to and working well. I also noted I can map the other Function keys as well, which of course helps in Commodore games like Bruce Lee, and many that ask you to press 'F1' to start. I can't thank you guys enough for the help. Espcially Tom and Ben for putting in this nice option. It makes a huge difference for the 'computer' emulators like C64 and Amiga.
  15. Well that worked, and it worked very good. I remapped F9 to my 'M' key, no issues. Now... the problem is how do you back out of menus? I can't hit Esc as it drops me out of the overall emulator? I tried several remapping, only to realize it's not the remapping, it the key to close the CCS64 menus that's the problem. It needs to be something other than Esc to move out of menus. Drat... foiled again. It's OK as long as you don't dive into any menus.

Have you tired emailing Andy? Tell him about your plight, he might work out something on the shipping. He's a great guy and no doubt very helpful. I have bought a TON of stuff from him (enough for 3 cabinets). At one point I forget to order a 2nd USB to Optipac cable, so he send it to me for cost, no shipping. Try it.

    Hi-Score

Waiting for the project has nothing to do with the Hi-Score being enabled. You're still going to have to compile MAME in order for it to work. The MAME Dev team wanted the all games to act exactly as they did back in the day. Many of the older games did not save the hi-scores, so if you turned off the machine, you lost the scores. Many machine did not save Hi-Scores until the mid-80's. So to emulate this, the Dev Team removed the capacity for MAME to save hi-scores unless the machine used NVRAM. Games like Robotron use NVRAM files so they were capable of storing the scores, but games like Donkey Kong, Galaxian and all those loose the score as soon as you exit the game. The HitoText project is more geared to displaying the hi-score info from the hi.dat files and NVRAM files, allowing you to view the high scores while inside of GameEx or other front ends. You have to recompile MAME in order for it all to work properly on the games that do not use NVRAM files. IMBerzerk.
  18. Cool, Thanks Tempest. I'll update GameEx and look for that new option HK put in there, hopefully that will do the trick. The coding thing looks a little rough for me, but I've had to do worse. That webiste you linked to looks pretty easy. A few Scotches and I should be mentally ready. All the best
  19. OK, that did the trick.... now about those F10 changes. I'll beg the other guys for some help on that one. It's a nice set-up and I can see the advantages... but damn those C64 games that still need the keyboard to play!!! Luckily I have a mini-keyboard that I pull-out to access and use to play with. All the best, and as always... thanks big-time for the help!
  20. Yes, At one time I was going to install a 19" Wells Garner monitor, with an ArcadeVGA card and all... I dumped it all for a 20" LCD. Problems solved. You really have to work with the monitor and get the settings correct sometimes using other software. I spent a few hours getting mine setup and it did work, but in the end, it drove me nuts with the resolution changes. Not all games use the same resolutions. Many use 320x240 or 320x200, other are in the 520 range, 750 range... etc.. etc. It's not really cut and dry. You might need more tweaking software, I forgot what it's called. Also, the POTS switches on the monitor are very sensitive. Are you sure you have them correct? Look it up on Google, and Build Your Own Arcade Controls forum. There is plenty of help out there. This is really not the forum for that. Thankfully some of us have a lot of experience building cabinets, but this is really the place for GameEx related questions. As far as my WG 19" and VGA card... as soon as I am done building my last cabinet... eBay. I simply could not be bothered with all the extra work involved. IMBerzerk

    Hi-Score

You need to recompile MAME with the Hi-Score upgrade. It's available out there.... Go to this thread and follow it. Headkaze has the best GUI based compiler out there, and it's really easy. http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?sh...art=#entry32801 IMBerzerk
  22. I didn't look at any options yet in GameEx, as it does not call for any in the setup. But I'll check that one. The screen is 'colored blank' meaning, it looks like something is running. So I don't know if that option causes that or not.
  23. Flash, OK New Year's res #1.... finish my Berzerk cabinet setup!! So the Holidays are in the books... and I am down to two more emulaotrs, C64 and Amiga. I downloaded and installed the C64 config files you made, along with the latest version of CCS64 direct from the website. The setup worked good, and the games show as zip files... but there is no video when I select a game. I can hear the sound, so I know it's running, but no video. The install was smooth and I changed all the file mappings as suggested... as well as changing the RUN/STOP key mapping in CCS64. I tested CCS64 outside of GameEx and it works, so it's something between the two... maybe the Fullscreen command? Is there a specific screen res CCS64 has to be set to? It's all default right now. Also, is there a way I can change the 'select Disk' button to another button other than F10? I do not have F10 mapped anywhere on my control panel... neither do I have <Shift>, so a two button keystroke is out is out as well. Baiscally my cabinet is 'kid-proof', I removed all 'power-keys' from my control panel other than enter and escape. So I'm limited. Thanks for the C64 config, and the links... and just about every other friggin' thing you've done for me... you rock!! IMBerzerk
  24. Yes, I read the now closed thread... but I am still 'new' here and simply have to say a big huge whopping THANKS to all the great members of this community for putting out such a fun, usable, enjoyable product as GameEx! It was my dream to make my 1 cabinet into a living museum of Classic Arcade and Console (and C64/Amiga) games. And now thanks to you Tom and the rest of the boys, it is!!! I love my cabinet and all that I've been able to do with it under GameEx. GameEx rocks and so do all of the members of this community! Happy New Year! IMBerzerk
  25. I had this problem as well. You literally have to go through each system, with each ROM, pics... etc... one at a time and decide what to keep, what works, what is bad... etc. I used Romcenter to rename everything, but still, I had to go through each ROM to make sure they work. At the end of the day, I only kept stuff I REALLY wanted, and realized I would be at this the rest of my life if I tried to do it all. I'm doing this now with the C64 stuff now... it's a royal PITA!!! I also realized having too much stuff, is simply too much! The game lists became too long, and then I'd get confused on which games I really wanted to play. I mean, do you REALLY need every single version of a game system? Some of the Atari 2600 and C64 games are just plain crap. Why keep them? So I streamlined, and made my life easier. I hope that helps a little.
