  1. It's not just your ROMs path you have to change, it's the MAME executable path as well. I strongly suggest you create a folder in the c: root called 'MAME'. Then dump all MAME files/folders into that. Right now you have it buired in a very long path structure on your desktop. If it's a security issue, just create a single file on the desktop name 'MAME' (or whatever you want) and do the same. Then use the GameEx config tool to set the rom and program paths. Also... dump MAME32. Although GameEx will use it, the stripped version of MAME is better. Using MAME32 with GameEx is basically using two GUI's together. MAME32 is just a GUI, it's not a program. Next you have to 'update list' under the MAME area of GameEx once it's running. It might take a while for GameEx to finish this process. Then you should be good to go. Also remember .... you MUST match your version of MAME with the correct version of MAME roms. So if you are using MAME .130... they can't be roms from MAME .98. IMBerzerk
  2. Well it's not at this point, I think we went off topic somewhere before what I wrote. I just wanted to know how to map 2 keys in the ini file as you suggested. I can work the GUI without a problem, but that's about all. Like I mentioned, it is sort of the problem with the mapping. It works very well, but if you're not a programmer, or don't understand coding, you can only do what the GUI allows you to(my case). Now, if you don't understand ANYTHING about using key mapping and emulation, IE a newbie, you're going to be a little overwhelmed. GameEx is outstanding, with a ton of great options. But for the 1st timer, it can be rough until you've worked with it long enough to get accustomed with the many options available. If you could tweak the mapping GUI to allow a 2-key mapping input, that might help a lot of folks trying to use it instead of trying to work with the INI file. I hope I explained myself better. Thanks.
  3. Yep, as Ben already put it, it sounds like you are using a recent version of MAME, with old games. That blank screen means that MAME did not like the game and kicked you out.
  4. So Tom, I want to map {Alt}+{8} for use in CCS64, how do I write that into the ini file? Thanks..
  5. Thank GOD something is being worked on for this!! All this renaming, checking, checking again... etc.. etc. is killing me... even with the image renamers, it's still not better than the over-seeing human eye.
  6. Dump MAME32, go back to MAME, and update the list. They won't show until you do that.
  7. At this point, that's the only issue I have as well. I have successfully remapped many keys for use inside emulators already and it works great. Most recently is the CC64 emulator. I now have 'F1-F7' and 'Y,N,T' keys mapped through the configuration setup. My only grip is that I have to press a button, then move the stick left or right for alpha paging. That time delay you put in there for the left/right use on a cabinet was a blessing. But to me, just having a better set of instruction like an 'idiot's guide' or something is fine. I don't see a need to change anything in the mapping configuration program. Once you understand how to use it, it's real easy and very powerful.
  8. You're basically asking the million dollar question. As far as I know, you have to simply go through each emulator and check them one at a time. Hence the reason to dump a lot of the versions and clones. If there is a better way, I hope someone will post it. IMBerzerk
  9. I think you can use FRAPS to record the movies in Stella. As far as the popping, it might be your sound card. I had a problem with my SB 24bit 5.1 Live! card. I kept getting popping, and interruptions in the Dragon's Lair game. I pulled the card, and used the on board Realtek AC'97, which worked great. No more issues. IMBerzerk
  10. Ahhh... ok.. so it is something more than it appears. No problem, jeeze... it's a great thing you're doing this to being with, please don't even think that you're being pressured. I was just wondering why if there is info there, it doesn't show. Now I understand. All the best, IM[now]Berzerk...
  11. Or you can do the real easy route... turn off the video sound and use the Jukebox. It's a real memory jog when you are watching the videos while listening to some classic 80's music like Journey, Rush and all the rest. Really sets the mood right. What FTP program did you use? I tried pulling them down from the Torrent using BitLord, but it would not connect. Thanks, IMBerzerk
  12. Hello Gents, I am at the point of tackling the C64 games that I want accessable in my list, so 1-by-1 I sort them, get all my images and set them up. I am noticing that some of the games show the text information from the GameEx database, others do not. I am using the Goodname set with most of them, but that is still not a complete set... so how do I name missing games that I add? For instance, Flight Simulator II, it's in the database, but no matter what I name it, the text does not appear. Games like Bruce Lee have multiple Goodname names, and one name without a number. Neither of them display the text. How does this work? Thanks, IM[going]Berzerk PS... I also notice some games link with other systems, but not MAME. Battlezone is a good example of this. 2600, 5200, 7800, C64... no MAME
  13. LOL!! Definately a she...
  14. Believe me, I'm shocked as well. I think it has a lot to do with the better quality in the newer databases moreso than anything else. I still have to do the C64 games, which will be hell, but other than that, it's nearly complete. Kudos to all those site out there that are now offering named images on their sites.
  15. I just wanted to pass a HUGE thanks along to all those that helped me out during this massive HD disaster. My cabinet is up and running again, and in fact, better than ever before. I now have more pics and images matching everywhere, and a lot of stuff is of much better quality as well. Thanks again guys, I really appreciate it. I am once again a happy GameEx'er. IMBerzerk
  16. There is no other way to do this. I posted this same question a few years ago on the MAME Dev forum when I was building my daughters Cafe style cabinet. You have to run each game and set it individually because it's part of the game ROM instructions, and not a scripting thing. It's hard-coded into the ROM. IMBerzerk
  17. Chriss, I have the original DL Dragon's Lair DVD ROM version, I checked that whole disc, it's nothing but VOB files. Is that on there as well? I don't have the HD version, but I was thinking of buying it and the Space Ace set as well. IMBerzerk BTW... looks like Emuvisions Torrents are dead as well. I keep getting a PID error (whatever that means) when I try to download anything. Man.. I picked a bad time to crash a HD!!!
  18. Thanks Ben, I've been reworking a ton of images, I didn't even notice that one.
  19. I've been trying to find this one for a while now, anyone know where I can get a hold of this? Is it buried in a theme or out on the I-net. I had it in my last install, but since lost it in the HD disaster. I'd love to have it back if I could. Thanks IMBerzerk
  20. http://www.localarcade.com/screenshotarchive/ Well, looks like they had a total meltdown. First the website was truncated, then the files were all corrupted, now the website is down. Oh well... hopefully not for long.
  21. The newest version of MAME (1.30) is now available, which means a new version of MESS will be probably right behind it.... http://mamedev.org/release.html IMBerzerk
  22. Those Vista codecs worked like a charm!! thanks again!
  23. When I am done, I'm just going to copy all the files on to a 4GB thumbdrive. I don't care so much about the MAME stuff, as I have it all on DVD's. It's all the other emulators, the games, the pics, boxes...etc.. that all has to be name matched to the GameEx databases... coverted from GIF to JPG or PNG... stuff like that. That's all the hard/time consuming work that needs to be done. You had to see my Channel F set of pics. It was nearly complete... I know it's a crappy system, but my cabinet was more of a 'hall of fame'/museum moreso than just a game playing machine. IMBerzerk
  24. LOL! Thanks, I needed that.
  25. Chriss, nice to hear from you. Back-up the drive.... this REALLY sucks having to do all this again. I thought the same thing, no biggie, I'll get it all back.. no way. Some stuff I even found on eBay. I won't be seeing those pics again.
