Question for you guys, since this kind of thing seems to get tempers up quick these days. It was brought up on arcadecontrols.com that maybe I should ask permission to use the No-Intro naming standard. I never in a million years would of considered that. By using the No-Intro naming standard on my releases am I supporting the No-Intro group or am I somehow causing them harm Feedback??

lol no I accidentally quoted you on that post, I took it the right way don't worry

Sorry about that link guys, it's fixed now, I was in a big hurry when I posted it.

I will start by saying I do not use ffdshow on my cab, i tried it, had bad results. However if the SQ files are playing fine and the HiQ files have issues, realize that the only difference is the resolution. I make the HiQ files first and then resize them for the SQ set. My older releases up until about a year ago were all encoded in Divx so there are some differences there. Otherwise with xvid as the installed codec on a P4 3.0GHz with 1GB of ram installed both types play fine for me. If you are only using the videos for a preview window, you will probably be just fine with the sq set.

Before I head out I just wanted to drop a quick word that I have just posted the SNES Carts and Boxes sets up over at emumovies.com This set was ALOT of work but I feel pretty good about it. I started with the set from the screenshot archive, which has about 170 scans. Over the last month I have scoured the internet and after much hunting and cropping, I give you 705 cartridge scans and 722 box scans! All files are in the no-intro format.

I tried ffdshow and had very iffy results. I strictly use xvid, and have never had an issue. Although I do reencode my other videos to xvid format to ensure the best results. I might of had better luck with ffdshow but 4I didn't have the time to mess with it. But it did scre my cab up pretty bad, double audio streams was the worst of it. Seems though that plenty of folks have got it working fine.

I just dealt with this problem on my friend's cab. First thing I looked at was the startup items in msconfig, basically disabled everything and problem fixed. I run a very lean xp install on my cab so it has never been an issue. Divx causes all kinds of problems, always been very happy with xvid.

I think it is a shame that it has to be that big of a deal, it is what it is I guess

Nintendo Virtual Boy Snaps, Titles, Manuals, Carts & Boxes posted Now I will start getting into the larger more popular systems, might be a a little while as I am diving head first back into the Mame video pack. Expect updates soon.
-
For awhile now the only codec that I have installed on my cabinet has been xvid alone. I have never had a problem since I quit using the codec packs like ffdshow. Just my two cents....

That would be because he is posting the files to message boards, most message boards will not allow you to directly post an executable. So you have to change the extension to be able to post so others can download.

Some More Updates Atari 2600 - Overlays Atari 5200 - Snaps, Titles, Boxes, Carts, Manuals & Overlays Atari 7800 - Snaps, Titles, Boxes, Carts & Manuals Neo Geo Pocket - Manuals Neo Geo Pocket Color - Manuals Go get them!

Keep in mind that so far I have not uploaded any updated video sets to the torrent. So they may not match up with all the other artwork just yet. There will be announcements on the EmuMovies news section (and probably here) as that begins to happen.
-
Just to be clear: The only files on EmuMovies.com that ARE NOT direct downloads are the video files. Snaps, Titles, Carts, Boxes, Manuals & Overlays have direct links on the respective "Collections" pages.

#1 Honestly I am not sure, I list the naming convention used in the info files. What I have been doing is using the latest rom sets (usually no-intro) then I am making sure that all files use the same file name. So as long as your rom set matches that of the one listed in the info file you will be ok. I am not familiar with Goodmerge so maybe someone else can answer that. #2 Did #1 answer that? #3 As far as .dats for videos probably not, the mame torrent will automatically update itself each time as long as your directory structure matches the torrent. I changed the directory structure on the last update and it will not change again. Concerning all of the other video sets, there are currently some file name issues because of the age of them but that is being worked on. A .dat file will probably not work well here either as I have been re editing or redoing most if not all of the vids to be more in line with my more recent sets. So as the video sets are re-released they will be completely different files. There is A LOT of work to be done on this still. In the meantime, while the video names are not perfect, I believe gameex has a sort of fuzzy match feature and I have heard that it works well.

Great to hear, btw updates are still being uploaded so if you see something missing it's on it's way. Also a couple small additions: NEC PC-FX Box Scans NEC Turbo Grafx 16 Snaps & Titles

I made the decision to star converting most everything on my site from GoodXXXX to no-intro as I had MANY requests to do that. Is that going to work with these databases? Or will it break them?

Actually Moby Games is similar to that, all I am trying to do is have one file downloads that you can plug directly in to Gameex, that are easy to find and take no effort to get working. I think if I tried to make my site like your talking about my head just might explode.

I have finally started adding some of the additional content to the collections pages today. Atari Jaguar - Snaps, Titles, Carts, Boxes, Manuals & Overlays Atari Lynx - Snaps, Titles, Carts, Boxes & Manuals Colecovision - Carts, Boxes & Overlays I believe that these are the most complete collections that you will find anywhere. All follow standard naming conventions for plug and play use. There may be some issues with the naming of the videos but I am hard at work fixing that issue. The video torrent will be updated in the next 24 hours or so as well. Also, I did a fairly major overhaul of the collections pages today to support the new contect being added to the site. You should find it much easier to navigate and access files. Please feel free to offer any feedback, most of the changes that I made today were because of points made by users of this site. Hope everyone likes it!

I do not think that there is any video that has not been edited in some way so a dat would not work.
-
Other for the MAME set the video previews will still be 320x240 (SQ), however they are cropped and the content is more uniform (Just like the new MAME set if you have seen it.) Carts should have uniform backgrounds and for all I used the highest quality images that I could find, but I am somewhat limited because I had to rely on other sources for the images.

I wanted to give some advance notice of all of the new content that will be appearing at emumovies.com over this next weekend. I have mentioned that I was going to start offering the whole package of extras for FE's in addition to my video sets. I have made quite a bit of progress over the last 30 days and I will have the site updated with what new content is finished by this weekend. This should give you the jist of what I am talking about: Naming Conventions - No-Intro or GoodXXXX (If no-intro not available) Videos - Cropped, Re-Edited or Redone, 30sec avg with at least 20-25 sec of gameplay, any missing vids replaced Manuals - PDF and as complete as possible (When only text available I reformatted and put into pdf format as well) Snaps - Cropped, Same Resolution (320x240 or 640x480) Titles - Cropped, Same Resolution (320x240 or 640x480) Carts - Cropped, as complete as possible (Started with Screenshot Archive and filled in blanks) Boxes - Cropped, as complete as possible (Started with Screenshot Archive and filled in blanks) All files with have the exact same file names and should be a plug and play solution for GameEx (or any other FE). These should be the most complete collections on the web. On the carts and boxes if I didn't already have the pic I used ebay or google image search to find it and the edited the photo to match the set. I have completed two minor sets (Atari Jaguar & Atari Lynx) and have misc packs for many other systems as well. I will have everything that is done so far uploaded to the site by this weekend. All extras will be available via direct download at emumovies.com. Video sets will be available via Torrent, FTP, or DVD (Some of the smaller sets will be available via direct download) This is what I am working on when I am away from my main machine (that I use to make the videos) Should make it very easy to get GameEx set up! Hope you guys are going to like it!

FIXED The tracker that I use is a private one but they change a setting on mine that makes it freely distributable without being a member of the site. Until they flip the switch so to speak it doesn't work. I expect that it will be fixed in the next couple of hours. I will post an update here once it has been done. Next time I will wait and not jump the gun but I didn't know. You will not need to download another file it will just start working.
