Make sure you don't have "Dynamic Data Loading" turned on as that means the data is loaded for each game and can be a bit slower. If you can't get it to display fast enough you might want to consider using the "Export Bezel" feature with the patch and just display the CP in Mame. It's actually a better way to go in my opinion if you only want to be able to view controls for a game.

As I said in my first reply you should download the package from here as it contains all the files you need to setup Scumm. Flash just released a ScummVM database that should be even better than the map file method I was using. Hey Flash if your reading this, perhaps we need to repackage that file with the database so it uses that instead of the map file?

[THEME] HyperStyle emulator backgrounds for GameEx
headkaze replied to headkaze's topic in GameEx Media Projects
Okay I've added a download for the theme to the first post if you want to check it out. Unfortunately I don't think I'll have a whole lot of time to work on this theme anymore. But people are welcome to take it and expand on it. It didn't turn out as good as I hoped it would. The foreground images I use don't always look that nice when the background is color keyed out; perhaps I should have just used background images instead. Anyway you will probably look at the theme and think what is different? You need to have emulators set up to see the overlays. They match the names used in the default emulator profiles included with GameEx. But this is just the default GameEx theme with some graphics overlayed for some emulators. I've called the theme HyperStyle for obvious reasons, I did make all the graphics by hand but some of the layouts are inspired by some of BadBoyBill's designs so I hope he doesn't mind. Overall though it's not that great and I'm certainly no billpa but maybe someone can make it better. Maybe one day I'll change it to use background images instead of foreground. But I thought people could use the foreground images with their own backgrounds if they wanted to. -
The GameEx Database Project
headkaze replied to headkaze's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Sweet, thanks Flash Yes if you could upload the xml to the usual place that would be great cheers. Also just wanted to mention I'll be doing an update of GameEx DBM soon with all of Flash's data included to date. Also added a cool search feature that lets you choose a game from a list of results. This is a huuuge time saver for people who want to help complete databases. Also with Flash's great work recently we now have most of the databases filled out. So most of them only need the missing games added now. I think I'll change the password on the GameEx DBM download so if you are still interesting in helping out please let me know here and I'll give you the new password. -
Sorry I was meaning to get back to this thread was just a little busy with stuff, so no need to talk to yourself (just yet anyway) Hmm I don't think I take into account alternating games like that, mainly because alternating games still let you use both controls AFAIK. But you can edit profiles for games to turn off certain buttons on a game by game basis if you like (take a look at the "Profile Editor" tab in the plugin's config)
-
Another game worth mentioning for a driving cab has to be Trackmania Nations which is a free PC game and really fun to play with a wheel.

Just like you weren't trying to be offensive by using bold, I wasn't trying to be offensive by editing your post. I find it distracting when a whole post is in bold. Bold is there to emphasise something, it's not meant for a whole post otherwise it would be set by default. If your finding it hard to read posts in plain text you can always increase the default font size in your browser settings.

Thats not the GameEx config file, it's called CONFIG\GameEx.ini Anyway have you got an MPEG2 codec installed? Which one are you using? See attached screenshot.

Other games (Non-emulated)
headkaze replied to Stu1983's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
This was a favourite of mine on the Amiga but looks like a really awesome remake. I believe it's coming to the PC too Bionic Commando Rearmed Review Bionic Commando Rearmed Trailer -
I released a program called FixColorKey yesterday for just this problem.
-
I liked the bold so much I removed it I suggest you take a look at the ScummVM kit I made on the GameEx website here. You will notice I use a combination of scummvm.ini, a GameEx map file and a folder of dummy files. You just need to alter the paths to suit your own set up. You will need to extract the games into a folder aswell. Brian: AGI games use a different engine to Scumm games, but there are AGI emulators around ScummVM doesn't emulate those AFAIK.
-
Just create an image like you normally would with an alpha channel. The alpha channel will be used as the color key, so you can have pure black in your image. Run it through FixColorKey and it will turn the alpha channel to pure black and make the blacks in your image 5% lighter so they will not be keyed out.

There is a util I wrote called "Volume" which you can run before and after an emulator and it will remember the volume and set it back to the last level you set when running the emulator. The only problem I see is that if your using GameEx inbuilt Zinc support there is no way to load an app before and after it. Anyway the program is on the main GameEx website under the utils section.

All your issues have nothing to do with the Theme Editor. So you should be making feature requests for Tom not complaining in this thread. I will support whatever GameEx supports in it's Theme Format. Color keys are a limitation of DirectDraw, and the rest are just the way Tom designed the theme format in GameEx. I don't know why he chose black as the color key. I believe using a color like magenta can cause problems when scaling an image you can get a pixel bleed effect which would look horrible if it wasn't black. You will notice when using dark themes you can sometimes see blue pixels around the edge of text which is because Tom is using a blue color key for text AFAIK. So yeah I would try the feature request thread because there is nothing I can do about those things.

This program is for people who want transparency in GameEx but also want to keep black areas black. What it does is let you browse to a folder and it will scan each png file and if it contains transparency it will brighten the rest of the image by 5% then make the transparent area pure black. Now when you display the image in GameEx blacks should be black and the transparency should be transparent. The way it should be FixColorKey.zip
-
Currently this is hard coded in GameEx and cannot be changed. Only text for the title and everything else can be changed, not single elements like the menu or game detail. Usually a color like magenta is used as a color key, and I agree it can be a hassle dealing with black. I'm about to release a program that will convert transparency to black and lighten the rest of the image by 5% so it wont be color keyed out. No I don't think there is currently. But some possible future features in there.

I can't really help with this problem I'm afraid. It's something Tom needs to look at, so perhaps you should post your Theme.ini file? I've seen the error before but I'm not sure what causes it. Perhaps it's when your trying to place elements off the screen? The best way to hide something is use a black image. As for that image you posted, I suggest you take a look at Photoshop's extract tool. You can draw over the edge of the character then fill the centre and it will extract the image. Then you can clean it up from there. How well it works depends though.

Your right V4 themes don't have a home and exit button because it has a horizontal menu strip instead. Not sure about hiding the menu bar, Tom?
-
Try ECHO this is test1 1st start test2.bat ECHO this is test1 2nd
-
There have been a few posts about modding the 360's to add rotary. Check out this one for example.
-
Like I said create a New theme (File->New) and select the theme you want to start with as the source theme and that will create a new V4 theme you can work with. From there you can edit it the way you like and import MameWah layouts etc. Although I must admit I haven't played with the importer that much. If you have any problems let me know.
-
You need to have a theme loaded to import a MameWah layout. I suggest you create a New theme and select a source theme you like and work from that.
-
You can get it from http://www.progettoemma.net/history/catlist.php

I have to admit I haven't tried making a vertical theme with it. I think your guess is as good as mine at this point?
