  1. If you have a problem in the Theme Editor just post about it here, it might be something simple. I have tried to make it easier to use in the last couple of releases. A common problem people have had in the past is not being able to move things around like the buttons. Some objects are locked in place so you don't accidently move them by mistake. You need to select the padlock icon to unlock them. So things like that can usually be explained pretty easily.
  2. *walks into thread* did someone mention my name? *walks out of the thread* Seriously though I like the theme Flash, some of the colors are a bit bright for my liking though. I would probably go for a darker background. Nice use of the foreground image though in Colecovision layout
  3. .. and then they flew off on their broomsticks
  4. Sorry but I will only be accepting GameEx regulars to join in on the project The main reason for this is I don't want the database software I've written to go walkies.
  5. Just a quick note on the new Theme Editor with foreground image support. To add a foreground image (currently only supported for emulators), then go to "Emu Foreground" in the Object Browser and you can load a foreground image for an emulator. Note that alpha channel and black are used as transparency so if you want to have black in your image then make it about 5% to 10% lighter black so it doesn't get keyed out. Good luck to everyone in the comp, look forward to seeing what people come up with!
  6. Sweet! Thanks Flash! You may have to help me on some of the characters though. I think the second one is Starglider is that right?

    Controls.xml

I spoke to SirPoonga (Controls.dat creator) not so long ago and he was talking about doing an update. He is always looking for help on this. What I'll do is send him a PM on BYOAC about this thread. Hopefully we can help him out with a new version.
  8. There are very detailed instructions in the first post. I suggest you print them out and follow them carefully. When I wrote the instructions I wrote down the steps as I did them, so if you follow them correctly it will compile Mame successfully.
  9. Follow Flash's instructions Tom: I think you need to put some basic bounds checking for the window size when GameEx is launched. That should fix this problem
  10. clair: I've updated the first post in this thread with step by step instructions on how to compile MameUI
  11. Yes it does, but now you can create themes designed specifically for widescreen as well The Theme Editor was originally limited to a set number of resolutions. That limitation has been removed.
  12. Indeed Just create a new theme in the Theme Editor and select the theme you want to convert. Now you can set it to any resolution (can you say widescreen theme?) and set the version to "4" and it will create a new V4 theme.
  13. Clair: Also turn off skip disclaimer.
  14. Okay try going to Edit->Options->Mame turn off Use Overlay. Go to Options->General and turn off "Dynamic Data Loading". Also I would try setting ExitKey to something other than escape. I'm not really sure what it could be actually. But I've noticed alot of the settings have been changed around. You might actually be better off deleting CPWizard.ini and starting again with the default settings. While CPWizard should work with Mame32, you probably should be using standard Mame with GameEx anyway.
  15. Can't see anything wrong in your log. Can you post your CPWizard.ini file please.
  16. Please don't post requests here, this is a thread for people who are creating databases. When a database is finished it will be included in GameEx so there is no point in asking here. Thanks for your understanding.

    Photoshop

He was using Photoshop styles to create the metal effect. I've attached them to the thread. Copy them into your Photoshop's Presets\Styles folder. The only way to cut things out in Photoshop without them looking crap is to do it manually with the Polygon lasso tool. It's very time consuming and requires a steady hand but gives the best results. I recommend that while you are drawing around the image use the space bar to help you move around the image your cutting out. Another tool you might like to look out for is the Filter->Extract tool. Again I don't think it is as good as doing it manually with the polygon lasso, but it might suit some scenarios. With this tool you draw over the edge of the image with a pen then fill in the middle. 18. The log file is called CPWizard.log and is located in the CPWizard folder. It's not called log.txt. With your screenshot, you have not set the the label groups correctly if you are trying to have the Kick and Punch words appearing in the label group. Either delete the label groups or set them up correctly. Label groups take common words in a group and place them in a separate label. So say you have three labels in Group1, Label1, Label2 and Label3 Say the Label1, Label2 and Label3 labels have Short Kick, Strong Kick and Roundhouse Kick respectively. Then it will place Kick in the Group1 label and set Label1, 2 and 3 to Short, Kick and Roundhouse. If you don't have the groups set up correctly they won't work right which is what it looks like has happened in your screenshot.
  19. Hehe Tom likes to trick people with his theme versions, V4 themes are just V3 themes that can be edited in the Theme Editor. I've improved the Theme Editor alot so make it easier to use and now you can convert any version over to V2 or V4 theme.
  20. Just so happens I'm updating the Theme Editor for V4 theme support. It should be great for this theme
  21. You have to go into Edit->Options->Mame and set the "Mame Layout" to the layout you want to display for Mame.
  22. bkenobi: GameEx DBM has built in version control, each time the database is saved it increments the version internally. The version is stored in the actual database along with the creator and the last person to edit the database. The way it works is I collect the database posted on the forum which is in the xml format GameEx DBM uses and then convert it to mdb and upload it to Tom's FTP. From there he will grab the database and remove it from the ftp. I think it's a pretty good system and it seems to be working okay so far. As long as two people don't work on the same database we shouldn't have any trouble although by the seemingly lack of people working on them I doubt there will be much room for confusion, yet anyway.
  23. Thanks Tom and Flash for the work recently with the databases. I think were on a great start to getting a fantastic new and more complete database collection of games ever made! And a note to the other volunteers, please read through Flash's tutorial pdf if you need some great instructions on how to create databases. We really do need all the help we can get with this project and would be a shame if we don't get more help. I got a PM from shaun and he's busy with RealLife ® at the moment but we might see him onboard when he gets some of the RL issues out of the way.
  24. Great work as always Flash! I think he'll be happy about that
  25. Have you done a list update? I think there might be some cached data that points to the old drive that might be causing an issue. So give that a try.
