Isn't 'British humor' an oxymoron? True you gave us the Office but you also gave us Mr. Bean...

Killer Instict does need to be run in an older version of MAME on slower machines. It was unplayable on my old PIII 2.0 when I used versions past .106 I think. KI2 wasn't playable at all on that machine. Tekken and Tekken 2 ran ok on slower systems for me especially using ZiNc instead of MAME. For Tekken 3 you may want to try the playstation version in ePSXe. I find this to work better. I disagree that Tekken's not worth getting to run. I don't think it's a settings issue, these are just a little outside the limits of your hardware.

Ok, finally got around to testing this and no luck for me. Maybe I'm missing something, here's what I did: Copied the following files to my GameEx plugins folder overwriting the one's already there: ICSharpCode.USBlib.dll PlugInUltraStik.dll PlugInUltraStik.ini (enabled the debug at first for testing which showed the correct map types) SetControls.exe Didn't do anything with libusb0.dll since I have the most up to date Ultimarc firmware Activated the plugin in the GameEx Plugins manager (says it version 1.3) After disabling debug in the .ini and firing up GameEx again I figured I'd be good to go but the maps remain in 8way continually. According to the PlugInUltraStik.ini file it should set it to the mouse map when exiting GameEx, no luck there either. Did I miss a step? Haven't worked with this PlugIn before since there wasn't a Vista version.

I run Vista on my main machine. I'll test also.

I live in Minneapolis (Bloomington to be exact) and would be happy to show you my cab and give you some pointers on building as long as you're not psycho. Check out http://www.doughcade.com for another local enthusiast I randomly met when I (by complete chance) bought a tv for my first cab from him off of craigslist. Had no idea until I went to pick it up and saw his cab.

Have you tried bumping up the vector size in your MAME config? This should help tremendously. You can also do it on a per game basis with individual config files.

My 531 doesn't have any IDE devices, only SATA. I just recently added a hard drive to mine and the setting to get it to recognize is in the BIOS setup under Advanced-->Serial-ATA Configuration-->SATA Controller. It has to be switched from SATA-1 to SATA-1+2 to see the second drive.

I'm running an Inspiron 531 with Vista and have no problems accessing the boot menu with F12 or setup with F2. Only oddity I notice is that if i continue to hold in F12 after seeing 'Loading boot sequence' in the lower left it says ArcadeVGA bios and hangs. If I press in F12 and then let go when I see it's loading it works fine. Are you seeing a message in the lower left corner that it's loading the boot menu? Have you tried a different keyboard to rule that out?

Is your avi snaps path right in GameEx? Not sure where your avi snaps are from but for troubleshooting purposes start with a single video you know will work in GameEx like one from the EmuMovies site. You may also want to try switch the theme in GameEx and checking it, i've had themes cause odd problems before.

Make sure you're using FFDShow Codecs, download it from within the GameEx setup utility. If you've installed DivX remove it. I have mine setup in Vista and everything works, no special settings or anything.

You may want to check out my post here about my cabs audio controll unit. I run from the sound card into the controller and then back to the subwoofer and 5.25" speakers. The nice thing is for $10 I got a nice audio control on the cp box front with illumination, audio power, volume and a headphone jack. All together the components were under $100. Not the 'cadillac' if you will but a very nice 'all in one' sound control panel with very good sound. Of course this may be the 'cadillac' model to some, but if you're an audiofile the speakers are just ok. Using a computer speaker for the audio control panel is the way to go though whether you run into an amp with better speakers or no.

As long as it's consistent with the Download, one or the other needs to change so it's less confusing. Out of curiosity why would you use Bliss32 instead? Is there a compelling reason to use it over Bliss2.0.5?

That's alright, I talk to myself in real-life too.

Exactly. Well, they WERE posted here and then summarily deleted. Funny I always thought a forum was for discussion. Everyone knows Nologic swears, can be temperamental and indelicate, his actions were par for the course. The real rocket-science move was one mod banning him after he bruised his ego. To my mind you'd have to say some pretty heinous things to justify getting banned after the myriad of the contributions he's made to this community and I can't imagine him saying those things unprovoked. It's spilt milk now because even if he was allowed back I doubt he'd rejoin us after receiving a huge bitch slap for his efforts. I'd be 'extemely abusive' and 'uncivil' too. In the end you didn't punish him though, you punished this community and your product over something that would've worked itself out. Tom, maybe you should just tell us all what we should or shouldn't say to Headkaze to avoid being banned.

In case anyone else has this problem, the short fix is to just use Bliss instead of Nostalgia. Why didn't I use Bliss instead of Nostalgia in the first place? Well I tried but the Bliss download link in the GameEx config was dead and the config itself is wrong. The download appears to be fixed now (the newest version is 2.0.5). The config is still wrong. The Command Line is set to go to Bliss32.exe instead of Bliss.exe.

Nologic has specifically asked that none of his works be distributed in or by GameEx... so if you want to respect his wishes I'd take them out. Not sure what recourse he'd have but he did specifically ask. Even though his posts don't have them anymore they are still in a post (below) from Headkaze and Tom in the 'User Submitted Themes' section which they'll probably have to remove.

Was discussed in the Themes Editor Questions thread back in Early December

I've got Nostalgia setup but can't seem to get it to save my controller selection. After choosing my game controller it works fine until I quit out of Nostalgia. When it boots up again I have to re-select my game controller which is inconvenient through the nostalgia interface and undoable when running through GameEx. Where do people typically put the overlay files since there isn't a set GameEx label for them like there is snaps, manuals etc. Is there a good place to get a complete set of the overlays. I've found a couple sites but you have to dl images individually. I'm thinking I may just have to run nostalgia as 1 PC app in gameex and select the controller every time.

You can still do custom positioning, just not on an Emulator by Emulator basis, you need to use one universal set of coords for the time being. For some reason the Theme Editor doesn't won't remember positioning for certain items. Just make note of the X and Y position in the Theme Editor for the problem items and then go into the Theme.ini file and change the position manually. Each time you go in and out of the Theme Editor and re-save it you'll have to do this again.

I haven't delved to far into building custom MUGEN stuff yet but adding characters seems to be fairly straightforward . There's a folder for the characters and then you just reference them in config file. Can't remember the names of folder and config file off the top of my head. Try it with JC's set and a fresh MUGEN download, copy some of his characters over.

I'd be interested, the first one was cool! Just need to make sure the link's cool with Tom and Headkaze and that it's nothing 'nefarious'.
-
I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it, just sounded bad.

Thanks, I like the light blue t-mold, some people hate it. I really like Knieval's cabs and so I patterned similar to his. Check out his site KnievelKustoms if you haven't seen it. Below is the full effect, the light blue t-mold fits my theme nicely, maybe not so much with a Tempest cab though since it's all dark and mysterious though. Marquee Bootscreen GameEx Theme CP Overlay

Yeah, I'll bet I accidentally had the custom layouts and/or modules tickbox checked under options in the Theme Editor. I found out after I created this layout that those don't really work and it's better to turn them off and just point to a background you want to use in your custom emu config. The Theme Editor can be really sketchy when it comes to those functions. Don't get me wrong, I'm greatful there even IS a Theme Editor but those things just don't work yet.

lol I guess that makes you chopped liver Brian. That's gratitude for ya.
