Hey and if you ever want to peruse the Sega Media FTP site I wandered across it here... http://segapr.segaamerica.com/SEGA_FTP_NAV.html Lot's of interesting junk on there.

I should have been more clear, I meant the abillity to individually rename art elements for each emulator. Here's some links where you can snag some art: http://www.localarcade.com/screenshotarchive/index.htm http://www.gamescanner.org/ http://www.arcadeflyers.com/ http://www.mobygames.com I agree with greatflash, what people like to collect (as art) along with their emulators varies greatly. That's why it would be nice to have some flexibility here.

I've just started setting up some regular PC games and ran into a snag. The game I'm playing uses ESC to exit the game back to a main menu and Q to actually quit the game. This is fine using .lnk files since Map Keys still works and ESC will exit the game. Problem is, I'm using batch files to launch which makes Map Keys not work. I tried making an Advanced [Emulator] Config with KEYBOARD MAP set to swap ESC and Q key but that didn't work (see below). VK 27 is ESC and 81 is Q. [KEYBOARDREMAP] Enabled=True Remap_1_From_VK=27 Remap_1_To_VK=81 I thought this would remap the ESC key to the Q key. No dice. Haven't worked much with the Advanced [Emulator] Config's, any help greatly appreciated!

I always though these should just have the ability to be renamed. That way a person could call the related art elements whatever they wanted. Could also use a couple additional slots, 5 rather than the 3 (title, box, cartridge) would be good.

'Crap' is a bit strong don't you think? The WG D9400's aren't crap. As I said, they were the standard before the bad run with (mainly) D9200's but Wells has apparently addressed the problem. ANY arcade monitor can have problems, including your Nieman! Ok, I will. Before buying a Wells-Gardner monitor, read about their problems Remember that this originated well over a year ago and was targeted mainly at the D9200's. Also note the last post about Wells addressing the issues. According to this thread (Which new monitor is the best?) you didn't think his website had enough info and thought the price was too high. Also, looks like you just got your monitor in April so it's not much in the way of a long standing track record for comparison. That thread also reiterates what I already stated about it not being a 'digital' trisync monitor...meaning if you use it with MAME and switch res often you have to manually adjust pots for different resolutions. This is a huge downside to a MAME user. Me either! That's why I don't make blanket 'it's the best ever' type statements. It's great, but I'm sure the D9400, Nieman and Makvision monitors are great too. If you don't have a true side-by-side comparison of a Nieman vs WG vs Betson it's pure speculation to say yours is the best. You seem to be saying it's the best because YOU have one and not based on any tangible fact or a true comparison. Even with a comparison you're bound to be biased since you just plunked down a lump of cash on it and want to believe it's the best, human nature. I think it's important not skew a person's opinion of a very expensive piece of equipment based on speculation. Just dish the facts and let them research it a bit and find out what's best for them.

Using a regular video card with an arcade monitor like the D9400 is worthless. You might as well just get a cheap 27" TV and save yourself the money as it's the same thing as using an arcade monitor without the card. The whole reason to get an arcade monitor is so you can play games in their native resolutions and refresh rates and the difference is night and day. Anyone who suggests otherwise just doesn't know better or hasn't seen the alternative. Mark, don't second guess your purchase, the card is vital and well worth the $87.

Whoa whoa whoa, thems fightin' words in these parts! Seriously though, I have to disagree with you on the Nieman monitors DJ. I talked to Rick Nieman via email when I got my monitors back in Nov '07 and decided they weren't for me. Here's why: The Betson sales rep was way more responsive (even though I was a Mame enthusiast) and Rick Nieman took awhile to get back to me. When he did respond, the Betson price was still about $100 cheaper. Betson rep was even willing to haggle a bit to earn my biz. The Nieman displays aren't digital trisync's (see RickN byoac forum comment link below) and when I asked Rick about this he never responded. They're in Canada, higher shipping, Betson is in Chicago. If I have a problem, I have to send it back to Canada, Betson is a bigger Co. with more distributing/shipping options The Niemans are flat tubes which aren't as true to the arcade originals. Here's a couple interesting threads from BYOAC. So what are we supposed to do? Building my first arcade cab and need advice for the display See RickN comment in this one As for the D9400 I still think it's a quality monitor. From all I've read they've really cleaned up their act since the bad D9200's, prior to which they were the defacto arcade monitor.

You'll be back... Should be a great monitor! There's a couple tricks to calibrating and setting it up with the ArcadeVGA though. Be sure to download Gavin Bensons AVRes tool for auto-creating mame .ini files with the proper res for all your mame games. Also, did you buy the $25 monitor mounting kit with your UAII? If not, don't expect the monitor to just fall into place, you'll have to build some kind of mounting for it which is a pain in the ass. I built 3 Ultimate Arcade II's from scratch from their plans and assumed the monitor was accounted for and so custom built them. Major pain. Also, it definitely takes 2 people to install, the monitors are beasts. Good luck, PM me if you need help.

I like it! For those interested there's some cool free retro icons here: http://iconfactory.com/freeware/preview/arcd and here: http://iconfactory.com/freeware/preview/adgl

Betson used to be the top of the line monitor for an arcade cabinet but as of late received some really bad press on the byoac forums. The D9200 was plaqued with all kinds of problems. Search the byoac forums for more feedback. Because of what I read over there when researching getting a monitor I went with a Betson Imperial it's been great. The price is better also and the sales people were very helpful. http://www.betson.com/parts/Monitors/ Don't skip the card. It makes no sense to buy an arcade monitor and not have the ArcadeVGA to go along with it. For $87 it's well worth it. Ultimarc ArcadeVGA

Like many of you I'm in the (neverending) process of re-organizing/re-validating my console roms and am looking to get some feedback about No-Intro vs. Good sets. I understand the basic differences, No-Intro sets have a simpler naming structure and exclude hacks, trainers etc. but am looking for any specific reasons you may have for keeping them one way or the other. No-Intro seems more my speed. I've been organizing my console roms by No-Intro DATs where possible and leaving them in Good format where not (Atari2600). Since I'm not a collector I'm mainly interested in a nice clean list with the most common workable games. As a test I organized 3 full separate sets for comparison of Genesis roms: one is a full No-Intro set one is a full GoodGen GoodMerged set one is a rebuild of the No-Intro set using Adultery's CHQ DAT I was surprised to see that the GoodGen set was considerably smaller 1075 roms versus the No-Intro set's 1615. I thought it would be the other way around since No-Intro supposedly weeds out the junk. Adultery's CHQ Dat for Genesis is 822 and tells me 4 roms are missing after rebuilding off the No-intro set which is odd. From browsing these roms it basically looks like the No-intro set with the alt languages (mainly Japan) pulled out. Although it has cleaner naming I'm not sure that's an advantage since you can remove the bracketed info with GameEx anyway. Any feedback/links/insightful info welcome.

Coin Door - change from tokens back to quarters and how to light it up?

Why do you assume it's 'Ben' Kenobi? Could be Bob. -

The marquee should already have some sort power running out of it. You should be able to rewire it to a regular power plug from an old extension cord or such and plug it directly into a wall socket. If there's no housing you'll have to buy and mount a fluorescent light. I'd also suggest putting a switch inline to be able to turn the marquee on/off from the outside of the cab. Most people run the other lights off of their computer power supply. You can use one of the extra 5v power connections from your computer but a better way (especially if you have many lights or lighted buttons) is a controller like Ultimarc's PacDrive or Groovy Game Gears Led-Wiz which connect to your computers USB port and supply power for multiple items. http://www.ultimarc.com/pacdrive.html LedWiz You can swap the switch assembly on your coin doors to a different size/type (mine happens to take dollar coins) but seems like a waste of time and money to me given how often they get used. Is it hooked up yet? Quarters may actually work. It's doable though if you really want to. Check out Happs site for parts:http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/doors.htm -

X-Play ran an All Access segment on Streetfighter IV yesterday. Check out the video here: http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/previews/26363/A...Fighter_IV.html

How about the MAWS database? Tons of info for every mame game along with ratings and a Hall of Fame section. http://www.mameworld.net/maws/ I'm not sure after you turn on the Golden Era section in GameEx if you can manually delete what you don't want. I'm sure there's a file in the GameEx directory somewhere that populates what those Golden Era Games are by default, you may be able to mod that instead of manually deleting.

That's what I thought. I did try to open up the MDB at home but the util I DL'd to open it didn't work. I have Access at work so I just opened it with that. Thought maybe there was a better way.

I have .cdi images for DC games and some are named incorrectly so they don't pull game description info. How do I know what to name them so that GameEx pulls the game info from the DAT file?
-
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out!

Well maybe 'sucks' is a harsh word, except apparently when it comes to Shenmu and goat balls. I'm sure the majority of DC games are great, just not for me to stand and play at my cab. Thanks for the feedback kenobi and chriss.

Oh yeah, I forgot to include Crazi Taxi 1 & 2 on my list. Here's a couple other I forgot or am considering: Mortal Kombat Gold Anyone tried Wacky Races? Powerstone 2 Tech Romancer (mame v probably better) Worms Armageddon Thought about Gauntlet Legends but it got a 4.2 from Gamespot so I'm a little wary but maybe I'll give it a try. Good to hear Blitz emulates well on n64, haven't set that one up yet but I'll probably be asking this same question again for n64 games when I do. At 700mb+ a pop you've gotta be selective.

So after taking some time to get nulldc going and browsing a couple hundred reviews on Gamespot I came up with a pretty short list of DC games that I actually want on my cab. Bare in mind that I'm not into playing long (think RPG, Strategy or Platformer) games on my cab, pretty much just quick fun games like fighters or some of the driving/shooter games. My DC highlights are below. SoulCalibur (of course!) Ready to Rumble 1&2 Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (not 1 since the mame version seems better) Some of the other fighters like Virtua Fighter, DOA, Streetfighter II Streetfighter III (although the CPS3 version also seems better and I can't get the screen size to emulate well) SF Rush 2099 Couldn't get Blitz 2000 to emulate but I'd like to Sonic Adventures 1 & 2 If you're a Dreamcast junkie, Let me know what I've missed, seems like a short list.

Dedicated cab for sure. Can't wait! And GameEx should make it a snap to run along with your other games.

A couple other things. If it's Vista you need a /d after start and if there's spaces (as in 'program files' in your path you need to use quotes up until you get to the executable. See below: @echo off start /d "c:\programs files\gameex\xpadder" xpadder.exe exit Good luck!

Well hopefully installation won't be too bad if you use the wiring harness for the buttons instead of wiring them for keymapping. Bummer on the glue, that could be a major pain. I just hand tightened mine by holding down the post with a crescent wrench and they've never come loose. The work is well worth it though as they're killer joysticks and even more so now with a cool GameEx plugin!
