Okay I have determined that when I run PBX, the key mappings in VP9, VP10 will get switched to something other than what I want. Ironically, the VP9PM mappings dont get changed. So if I set the key mappings to what I want in VP9,/VP10, I can start a table numerous times through the editor, and the mappings will stay rock solid. Start PBX just once and try to play a game, the mappings on VP9/VP10 get screwed up. Any idea why this might be happening? Feels like maybe a registry issue. Thanks

Agreed. Might be worthy of adding this to an instruction or a sticky.

Solution found! In the Nvidia control panel, under "adjust desktop color settings", there is a setting called "Content type reported to the display". There is an "auto-select (reccomended)" selection available, and this was causing the issue. If you drop the box down, there are other selections available, and selecting any of them, resolves the flicker problem. Not sure I understand what this setting does. But I am very pleased that it removed the flicker. Thanks Tom and the others that chimed in.

Draco, Just tried a new HDMI cable. Problem remains. Just seems like the VMR9 has some kind of issue with my TV. I will keep lookinf and get Tom to connect ASAP and take a look.

Not yet. But I will give it a shot tonight. Hell i will try anything to get this fixed.

No problem. Its a Sony KDL-40w600b (made in 2014) https://www.cnet.com/products/sony-kdl-40w600b-bravia-w600b-series-40-led-tv/specs/ Its EVGA GTX970 https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/b3064/evga-gtx-970 The above Sony TV is hooked with an HDMI cable, directly to the video card. The two Dell monitors are hooked up both, with DVI cables. I jacked around with the refresh rate setting for the TV, from normally 60hz, to 59 hz. Problem remains. From what I can tell as the tables are rolling across the screen when browsing. Just as the table starts to fade to black, then the next table starts top appear, the flicker occurs as seen in the vid. I messed around with nvida setting and made no progress, but that was a shooting in the dark there. I also did some searching around regarding VMR9, but I am badly out of my element there to understand much of anything being said. <<<banging head>>>. I am hoping that there may be a simple setting that simply needs to be flipped, to hopefully fix this.

Understood. If I make a video recording of the PF and start and browse through PBX, and review it, I get no flicker. I just learned a couple more interesting facts. If I disable the 40 Sony TV, and force PBX and VP10 to one of the Dell 23" monitors, I get NO flicker. Seems the issue is somehow tied to the Sony 40" TV. Does that help any?

oh...I did not understand. Please send me the instructions via PM and I will set it up tonight.

Tom, I would like that very much. Please PM me with a date and time you might be able to take a look. I am pretty flexible. Thanks

Tom, What is the name of the video framework...prior to VMR9? This will greatly help me with further troubleshooting. Is there a particular "area" or "function" that you can suggest, that I look into further? Thanks

Thanks for helping again, Tom. Okay I tried the attached .exe...problem remains. Some more information. I have a backup drive with version 2.42 and it works correctly...no flicker at all. So that is the last version I used prior to 2.80, which is when the flicker started. I also noticed that if the 40" playfield TV is disconnected and only the two backbox monitors are working, and if PBX is run and the table browsing screen is shown on the backbox, then the flicker is NOT present. So to summarize: Normal HD with version 2.83, I get flicker when browsing. I also saw flicker with the old Nvida driver, and the latest driver. Backup drive with 2.42, I get NO flicker. It is running the old driver. I am not aware of any other differences that would cause the conditions above. I am using the same Nvidia GTX970. The only HW difference is that I am now using Zebs deluxe plunger instead of the Virtuapin plunger. But I just cant see how that would cause this issue at all. Hope this is helpful.

Here is a link to the flicker problem. Notice that it is very rhythmic from table to table: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3vhe3jax3gmeqg5/flicker.mp4?dl=0

I also just performed a clean install on PBX. Problem remains. Planning on showing the cab off tonight. I really want to find a solution before tonight. Pretty dead in the water now. Thanks

Okay. Here are the latest logs PinballX.ini log.txt [SETTINGS].log

Just tried 2.83. Problem remains even in windowed mode. Do I need to post anything else for troubleshooting?
-
oh...I tested in in full screen windowed too. Problem remains.

Updated LAV filters and driver to latest from nvidia. Problem remains. Logs attached. Again, this did not happen a few revs back. Thanks [SETTINGS].log log.txt PinballX.ini

Just installed v2.81 and now the videos when browsing for a table, are all flickering. They did not do this on the previous rev...maybe 4-5 or so back. No other changes made. The flicker is the same pattern for every table. I few unbiform flashes then its fine. Change to a new table, the pattern returns, flashes, then it fine till the next table. Any ideas? Thanks

Hey guys, I prefer to run Gameex and all MAME games in windowed mode on my vertically oriented TV, in my Pincab. In order to maintain near accurate aspect ratios and use MAME backgrounds, I have custom window sizes for every game within MAME and the are automatically managed by an application called WinSize2. So my question would apply to Gameex as well as MAME. I want to be able to hide the blue window frame and title when running Gameex and MAME in windowed modes, for better appearance. But I only want this function when Gameex and MAME are used. Is there a application that can be auto launched by Gameex that will hide the window fram and title and when Gameex closes, the hide fun is restored?
-
Well it was operator error. I duplicated MAME to troubleshoot another controller issue and was pointing to the wrong .exe. Thanks guys.
-
All of a sudden, the controllers wont work for MAME when launched through Gameex. They work fine when played through MAME direct, but not through Gameex. The controllers work fine within Gameex for browsing, but go dead when game is launched. Any ideas? Thanks

I really think I found the solution to the PBX stutter. It was related to my Bitdefender Security suite, but NOT the AV. Turned out to be the "Advanced threat defense" function of the security suite. Apparently this function saw PBX as a threat and was somehow impacting its performance and causing the stutter. When I disabled the "Advanced threat defense". Stutter was REALLY gone as far as I can tell. Re-activate it, stutter freaking city man. Thankfully, there was a feature in the ADT do add the PBX and VP executables to a white list, and that is allowing the ATD to remain active to do its normal of preventing hi-jacks and other bad stuff. Back when I was troubleshooting this weeks ago, I deactivated the AV, but not the ATD. Wish I had...obviously. So I have a very high confidence that the issue is now resolved. I will report back in a week to hopefully, declare it completely resolved. Thanks again to everyone who chimed in to help. -B

Another interesting did-bit. VP10 is nearly stutter free. VP9PM is unplayable due to stutter. But VP9PM through the editor, plays stutter free. Will look at settings.
-
Well the stutter is back. Sigh! But nearly as bad as with W7. Is there a program or logging program or something I can use to track down whats causing this. Got to be some way to pinpoint the root cause for this? Thanks
