I got tired of you guys not helping me, and figured this one out myself. I finally found this: # If you want to change the joystick map for a particular rom, just make an # entry with the name of the rom, without file extension, (), [], or {} and # with a value equal to the joystick map you want to use. Any joystick map # value that end in ".um" is assumed to be an external UltraMap file and it # must reside within the GameEx's PLUGINS directory for it to be loaded. It was in the read me file for the plugin ultrastick! Now, is somebody gonna tell me if he ever got the 4way diagonal problem fixed, or am I going to have to fire up Q*bert and find out for myself? Edit: It looks like oqqalz never updated the file but I found this: I was going to give credit to whoever wrote this, but now I can't remember (CRS) To be honest, I read this before, but didn't know what it meant. I thought it would be complicated , but it wasn't. So if anybody needs help let me know. Thanks for listening!

Don't take this the wrong way, but I was talking to DJ Infinty, who said .I personaly think he was just trying to show Nologic some appreciation. I'm glad to hear you'll be around too.

Allright - I played with this some more...did I say it would be easy? The data in controls.xml is is not totally accurate. E.G. asteroids is listed as having 3 buttons, and a 2way joystick. My contol panel picture for Asteroids clearly shows 5 buttons (buttons only) There are many names for what I would consider the same control: spinner,paddle,360 steering wheel, turntable, etc. there is a second field called <constant name="dial"/> that would be more useful (at least I think so, but maybe there are problems there too) but that is not where HK is getting his data from. There were quite a few other problems in other games as well, but I did not note what they were, but so far this looks far from easy. Headkaze - any comments?

I would like to speak for the whole group in saying that we are not trying to hurt your feelings either. It was just funny, and I for one feel obligated to poke fun when its so easy. If you stop posting, even for a little while, we can only assume that we have hurt your feelings, and I can assure you that was not our intentions. We know you didn't mean anything by it, but you have to admit it was hilarious (at least from our point of view) Stick around, and keep posting!

OK, I'm finished with my investigation. It looks like HK is using the <control name="control name here"> information from controls.xml For buttons the line is <control name ="Just Buttons". So the way things are, I don't think you could change your CP to display differently based on the number of buttons. However, there is a different line that reads <player number="1" numButtons="3"> If HK could be convinced to use this information as well, then you could do what you want. Does anybody know how to search through the controls.xml file, and output a list of the <control name="control name here"> options? E.G. Just Buttons 4-way Joystick Etc. With the joystick type information, you could have a different CP for 8-way, 4-way diag, etc. It would take the guess work out of it if we had a list available to use in the CPWizard>"Mame Keywords" Headkaze - does all of my speculation look right to you? Do you have a list of "Mame Keywords" I could go through it by hand if necessary. (hopefully that won't be necessary!) Edit: I just checked to see if "Mame Keyword" allowed pattern matching *joy* didn't work, so it looks like you would have to set up a different keyword for every joystick type, although they could all use the same CP layout.... or maybe a different layout for "Just Buttons, and let the joystick be your primary mame layout.

We love ya man! You can even have my Budlight! (I hate that crap anyway )

Hey, I wasn't trying to offend you (honest). All I meant was that nobody was trying to hep you, so I took a shot at it. And as usual my advice was "crap". Making more fun of myself than anything else. Every once in a while, my "crap" hits the mark, and it actually helps. My apologies for giving the wrong impression.

LMAO!!!! Hey Brian - Maybe you should have include a picture with that! Just so you know, you can help me anytime!

Well I for one am getting tired of that Bkenobi... First he gets a prize on that theme contest, now he wins this, and he looks like the next likely winner in the "my number of posts = my member number" contest. It's BULLS@#T!

This may not be that hard. You may know this already, but for the rest of the masses..... I discovered while working on the documentation for CPWizard the use of "Mame Keywords". I think its in Edit > Options > Mame, but it may be on a different Tab. I had been complaining to HK that I didn't like how the CPWizard would display "LEFT","RIGHT", next to the joystick, and the spinner, and the trackball, when for instance playing Tempest. I thought he should come up with a way to display only the labels next to the "best" control for that game. The answer was staring me in the face the whole time. I made copies of my CP layout, and named them joystick, trackball, and spinner. I then removed the inappropriate labels from each panel. E.G. I removed the labels next to the trackball, and joystick for the spinner CP layout. Using "Mame Keywords" I used the word "spinner" to trigger the use of my spinner layout. No more unecessary labels! Nice and clean! I would assume that you could do the same thing for your button layout. Make one CP layout for up to 4 button games, and a second for 6 (or7) button games. The only thing that I'm not sure of is where the data is coming from for the matches to "Mame keywords", so I don't for sure that there is a way to trigger for the number of buttons. I would assume that it is from Control.ini. Maybe I'll try to figure that out today, as my joystick panel doesn't display when it should. I used the word "joystick", and I probably should use "joy" for 2wayjoy, 4wayjoy, etc. You know what? I will play with it, and get back to you. 11 more posts till you match!

Bkenobi - You might want to check out the CPWizard! I'm just messing with you! It's quiet in here tonight... I was just reading everthing I could find regarding the Theme Editor, and came across your post. The real reason I am replying is that I noticed (that nobody else replied) that your number of posts is getting close to your member number. Do you get a prize when they are equal? Pay Attention, and make it worthwhile when it comes about. Have a Good One....

Ok. it looks like you just need somebody to throw some crap at you. I'm more than willing, so stand back 1. I'm assuming that you are trying to add the games to favorites by selecting the game in Gameex, and then highlighting "Add To Favorites" and then pressing the select button (whatever button enables you to select items in GX) I did a search on my C: drive for "a word or phrase in the file" using tempest (I'm pretty sure tempest is in my favorites) as the search word. I then checked every file that had "tempest" in it and came up with nothing. Then I did a "all or part of a filename" search, and didn't get anything outside of my mame folder. So I don't know where Tom is hiding the information for favorites. So I can only say that if you are adding them as above, I can't help you. 2. This appears to be random, on my system: snes (znes) Visual Pinball Raine nebula Daphne Do not have the options shown nes (nestopia) Mame Zinc Do have the options shown Now, to the best of my recollection, All I did was Download the NES, and SNES emulators through GX, and the only changes I made to the default configs was paths. I checked them both in the setupwizard > Emulator setup, and as far as I can tell, they appear the same. At the minimum, I can tell you that I checked pretty close in my GX.cfg, and there is nothing in there to indicate why there is a difference for NES, and ZNES. I hope this information helps! By the way I like your username, its much more creative than Tempest69, and alot shorter than: One who wanders from place to place without a permanent home or a means of livelihood. Bipedal primates belonging to the mammalian species Homo sapiens (Latin: "wise man" or "knowing man") in the family Hominidae (the great apes) Edit: maybe I should have done a search for "favorites"? Why don't you give it a shot.....

BTW - Headkaze, Do you remember me having the problem of the CPWizard not displaying when I press "pause"? I believe that this (was) is the problem, the joystick is "stuck" in the up position, and blocking key commands.

Shaunopp, The Blue T-molding is great! I am going to have to keep that in mind.... On the other hand, not if I go with a Tempest theme... Hey - did I mention this on another thread?... I had at one time considered building two cabinets with just a monitor in the second one (no Computer) for simultaneous player games. Then I thought that if I was going to go that far, I might as well have a computer in it too, so that two separate gemes could be played, and networked together for multiplayer games. At that point I thought that maybe I was going to far.... Has anyone done this? Can it be done? Bkenobi, I believe you are right, it's about the glue. Everything else is just "clamps" until the glue dries. Actually, that might be the advantage to 1x1's, you can glue both the edge of the sheet to the adjacent sheet, and the side of the sheet to the 1x1. Twice the surface area!
-
I didn't think of that! I used pieces of 1x1 on the inside, glued & screwed from the inside. I agree with no screws from the outside, but I've seen pictures.... Either way, carpenter's glue will add alot of strength.

I'm pretty sure (remember I have CRS, or I think I did, now I'm not sure ) I followed this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en And it fixed it (I swear), maybe its not the same problem though. Good Luck!

This probably isn't helpful, but two days ago my computer wanted to do an automatic update, I let it, and GX wouldn't run at all, exiting with Directx errors. I downloaded Directx 9.0c from Microsoft, (or maybe it just repaired it), and everything works fine again. Hope that helps! this was definately psrt of the error I recieved: It was detected you experienced a DirectX error. 12:24:46.2 2/17/2008: Please note the following for possible solutions to your problem: 12:24:46.2 2/17/2008: 1. Oggalz's plugin ultrastik says that it "Supports external UltraMap (.um) files." Does anyone know how to do this? Or, Maybe how to Edit his default maps? My cursor drifts up in mouse mode. If I use Ultramap to edit the map for "mouse" (setting the center to "sticky"), I can solve the problem, but it appears that he is not getting his maps from Ultramap, so this does not really help. Any Ideas? Did the Q*bert problem ever get solved? Thanks!

Glad I could help

This has been bugging me for awhile, How come when I have the "Most Played" highlighted in Gameex, that the video doesn't display the #1 most played game? Or, The video could keep changing to display the top ten. Come to think of it this would be cool for the "Favorites" as well. Maybe I'll try and figure out the Theme Editor next. Be prepared for more Questions! Does the Theme Editor have Documentation? Edit: I was watching my cabinet, and when I am on the screen for "Play This Game", it plays the video, shows the marquee, then back to the video. Why not the other options that I have listed (Flyer, Panel, Cabinet,Title)? BTW: I am using the Default-Gameex theme. I really gotta take a look at the theme editor!

I think Shaunopp covered this in another Zinc thread, do a search, and I belive you will find your answer.
-
Well, if they are all horizontal now, and you want to rotate them because you have your monitor on its side, there is an option in MameUI32 under "options >default game options > display" to rotate. Or if your using Gameex, there is an option in the advanced configuration under display to rotate. if you are talking about a few games that are incorrect, when running the game, press tab, go to video options > rotate view.

Pure Silicone caulk can not be painted, so don't use that! I should have said "siliconized acrylic latex caulk", and not just "acrylic latex caulk" in my previous post. I appreciate what you said about the seven weeks, but I am as frustrated with this as you guys get with the cabinet building!!!!
