Headkaze, When you say "I went down to my cab" what do you mean? Do you mean you were running CPWizard from Remote Desktop? I noticed it doesn't work on my cab via RD but it runs ok on the actual cab. I'm not runnung RD, I was just running up and down the stairs, and giving too much information. (Sorry!) The checkbox is only for Mame 0117 or below before the Raw Input System was introduced. Since then you can't send keys to Mame. Later versions of Mame send a message when it's paused so that is used. CPWizard detects the version of Mame your using a sets the options accordingly. Can you give me the names of the games that arn't showing the controls correctly? I took the advice you gave to 442much, and deleted my mame cfg files, and running mame outside of gameex. This solved the problem of the control panel not showing up the first time I press pause, but some of the panels do not display correctly. Examples: Millipede does not display correctly , centipede does. pac-man plus does not display correctly, Ms. pac-man does. I do have errors in the CPWizard, I will enclose the file for you to see. The problem with what you are suggesting (only showing controls if they are used for the game) is that CPWizard doesn't know your MOUSECODE label is for a spinner or for a trackball. I guess I could add another paramater to labels for identifying the type of control. The actual mapping occurs using the input code KEYCODE_, JOYCODE, MOUSECODE_ GUNCODE_ etc. so I would have to add another paramter like "Input Type" where you can specify the type of control. I don't want to beat this to death, it was just a suggestion, I thought it would be easy to use the existing player_1_inputtype information, to do this. However, I haven't programmed anything since I sold my Commodore 64, so what do I know? Thanks for your time. CPWizard.7z

Headkaze, I think I've found a couple of bugs, unless no one else has this problem, then it's just me. The first time I press PAUSE in a game, the game pauses, then the screen goes blank. If I press ESC, the screen will display the game again (still paused). then I press PAUSE again to continue the game, and when I press PAUSE again the control panel shows up. Edit: I went down to my cab to see if the "send pause checkbox" would make a difference, I just tried it with Asteroids Deluxe, and the control panel didn't appear after 3 tries. I'm not sure what the checkbox is for???? The second thing I've noticed, is that the Keycode_Left, Mousecode_1_left, and the joy_1_left (I'm not at my cabinet, but I think those are close), do not seem to display at all for spinner games, but display fine for trackball games. I tried 3 spinner, and 3 trackball games, and it seems to be consistent. Lastly, in reference to the post that I made about the spinner and trackball controls, Iwas thinking that if they were made to display only if Player_1_inputtype was equal to one of those devices, the it would make for a very clean control panel display. In (very) simple logical terms: if player_1_inputtype=spinner then display Spinner_1_right That way the panel would only display the one best type of control for that game. That was why I suggested the separate code types for those devices. Anyone who wanted all options to display in the cpwizard could still use the boxes that are in the proram now. Let me know what you think.

Outstanding! Now I can go back to not using my brain.

I got zinc to run today using your Zinc basic, thanks Nologic! I would be interested in an Ipac version, and would be willing to help if it doesn't take too much thinking... not that I'm not willing, just not sure I'm qualified! It looks like rotation for zinc is broken for now? If I remember right, I fixed Dahne by using the rotation feature in Gameex, but it doesn't seem to help with zinc. I am using onboard intel extreme graphics video, which has a option to rotate the display (Which is handy since I can run Windows without hurting my neck), however that doesn't seem to make a difference either. Any Ideas?

Brian, I went to Ultimarc and downloaded the latest version of Winipac. Success! I posted on this topic a couple of times here, and at the ultimarc forum, but nobody else caught on to why I would need to do what I was trying to do. Thanks for paying attention! Things are coming together! Matt

I mis-spoke, I have a mini-pac, but apparently that shouldn't matter. I cut this from Ultimarc' web: The Mini-PAC works identically to I-PAC2 board. All programming features identical, same number of inputs (28). Works in PS/2 or USB mode. For complete details check out the I-PAC pages. Tiny board! Only 2 1/4 X 1 1/2 inches! Fully programmable key code set. Stored even after power off unlike some other interfaces which lose all data when powered off. I just double checked mine, shut down and started up my computer (cold start), started a game in mame32ui.121 (no front-end) and my control panel doesn't work. Then I exited mame, program the mini-pac using the winipac program and Voila! it works. What the Heck! What do you think?

How would I run the Winipac program to program the Ipac? Running the program is simple enough, but there is a box to click on to program the board. I was using a "mouse click recorder" (and I still could) however, If an shortcut gets moved on the desktop, all is lost. Suggestions?

Windows XP Professional. You did see that I edited my post, and that I had the plugin working?

Headkaze, I love your CPWizard! I would like to make a couple of suggestions. Would it be possible to have a window pop up and ask if you want to save changes when switching between files, Closing the program, etc.? I can't tell you how many times I've lost my work without Windows babysitting me. Also, when I create a label/Mouse code/mouse_1_up (or any other mouse code) it does not display the code. (I tried it with your "Lightning" layout and had the same results.) For example: I have a trackball, and if I have a label for mouse_1_up it does not display with centipede. I looked at the controls.xml file and it shows the trackball as the correct controller for the game. I assume that is where you get the information for misc_p1_input type. So I am wondering if you might set up other drop down boxes (code type) for spinners, trackballs, etc. so that the information would display next to the device when appropriate, or possible change the mouse code/code value to be specific controls instead of just mouse1,2,3,etc... Either way would be fine, I don't know which is easiest, or most flexible for others to use. Thanks!

I recieved an E-mail from Henry at EMS and he says that the topguns do work on vertical monitors. Once again your intuition is better than mine.

I'm sorry to have to ask, but it says newbie under my name for a reason. I get what you are saying about not even needing a screen, but I don't know how things work so far as programming. With the Act Labs gun, after I got it and hooked it up, I found that it registered the shots 90 degrees off because of the the gun works with scanlines. After I saw it, I was "like duh!". It made sense. It would seem to me that I might have to mount the LED strips above and below the monitor in my cabinet, because that would in reality be the sides of my monitor. Does that make sense? or Would it not matter? I just want to make sure they will work correctly before I order, and I didn't find any references to vertical monitors over at Arcade controls.com. I want you (and others like you) to know that I have a great deal of respect for what you are able to do, and an appreciation for how much time it takes to do it. Thanks for your help.

As long as you guys are talking about this, Do any of the light guns work with a vertically oriented monitor? I know for sure that the Act Labs won't.

I am having a problem with the ultrastick plugin. I downloaded and unzipped the files to C:\programfiles\gameex\plugins\pluginultrastick I then enabled the plugin with the pluginmanager I did not make any changes to the config file I double checked to make sure that gameex is pointed at mameinfo.dat When I try to run gameex, I get a popup window saying that "setcontrols has encountered a problem, and needs to close. Blah...Blah.... I click on "view the contents of the error report" : event type: clr20r3 p1: setcontrols.exe p2: 1.0.0.0 p3: 45e4f070 p4: icsharpcode.usblib p5: 1.0.0.3 p6: 45e4e2d4 p7: b p8: 6 p9: system.dllnotfoundexception when I click on "don't send report" Gameex starts, but the joystick doesn't work. I am not a programmer, so if I need to do something, I need basic step by step instructions I have enclosed a copy of the gameex log. I was running Cupid's plugin before, I like the idea of not having to run ultramap, It would also be nice not to have to run Winipac, then I could just put gameex in my startup folder and go. Does anybody know how to do this? Thanks! Edit: I downloaded the latest ultramap version, and I no longer get an error. The bad news (for me) is that the joystick no longer works at all. I uninstalled and reinstalled the joystick in the device manager, didn't help. I was trying to update this earlier, and saw that you were reading this post Oqqalz, but my connection was dropped and I couldn't get back online. I hope I haven't wasted your time. I think I will shoot a message off to Andy. Edit: I downloaded the latest firmware to the joystick, uninstalled, and reinstalled in device manager, and the joystick works again! The only problem now is Qbert, and I see above that you are working on that. I hope this helps others who are as "slow" as I am! log.txt

I have an idea that seems simple to me (because I am simple-minded), but may be complicated. I am using the mini opti-pac controller from Ulti-marc, along with the WinIPAC software. In case you are not familiar with the WinIPAC software, here are the basic steps: 1. Designed a control panel using the WinIPAC program that looks like your control panel on your cabinet. 2. Assign inputs to each of the devices (Buttons,Joysticks, etc.) on your panel. 3. Assign which key press will be sent from each device on your panel. What I am wondering is since my computer already "knows" through the use of the WinIPAC software which buttons are sending which keypresses, and I have a control panel already designed, wouldn't it be fairly simple to have my control panel displayed in Gameex with the appropriate labels, using controls.ini somehow? I hope this makes sense, if not is there an existing way to create my own control panel to display? Keep in mind that I am simple-minded! I tried this post before, but I must have done something wrong!?

I have been using this plugin for awhile, and it works great! Make sure and follow the instructions. The default map for Q*bert is incorrect, and I think that I had to shut down and restart the plugin manager, to get it to change to the 4 way diagonals map, but no big deal. My only request to cupid would be to be able to browse to your mame file instead of having it default, but I can live with that too. Thanks Cupid for a great Plugin.
