    InstantSheller

I think this is the ultimate sheller guide - read the section by Brian Hoffman http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?sh...amp;#entry25142 I hope it helps!
  2. http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?sh...ic=4375&hl= Don't thank me, thank Headkaze - and don't be such a slacker..
  3. Can Gameex use a map file for MAME?
  4. If indeed you have two joysticks, while you have crazy climber running press the "tab" key which will bring up a menu. I don't have MAME running, so the following may not be perfect. Use the up/down arrows to scroll the menus select "inputs for this game" (press enter) select the control you want to change (press enter) use the joystick (up,down, lef, right) to enter the desired input (press enter) repeat for whichever controls you wish to change. press "tab" to exit menu you can also change the inputs for all games under "inputs for all games" Brian - do you have a picture of this?
  5. I'm no expert, but Is it possible that you don't have the original versions? I'm pretty sure that Gameex would display them if you did, and they were not filtered out.
  6. In the setup wizard, got to emulator setup. On page 2 of of each emulator there is the option to map keys.
  7. Nologic, I'm getting seriously bored. I'm pretty sure that you've fiqured out that I'm not equiped for technical projects, but if there is anything I can do to help.....
  8. I'm not sure, but I think you have to "update list" before those changes will show.
  9. The CPWizard found here: http://members.iinet.net.au/~freeaxs/cpwizard/ Lets you create your own control panel, and then will display the panel (in or out of Gameex). Not only does it display an image of the panel you create, it also will display the correct labels for the controls for your panel. So if you are playing a game, and you show the control panel, it will put a game specific label next to the appropriate control. For example, if your playing Asteroids, it will display Left, Right, Hyperspace, Thrust, Fire next to the corresponding buttons on your panel. This way, users know exactly which controls to use, and what they do for every game. It's fairly easy to use, (the test for that is that I figured it out ) , but if you need help I will help you. Hint: I took a digital picture of my own control panel, then used it as a background image to line up controls (buttons, joystick, etc.) then just changed the background after I had it all layed out.
  10. What are you trying to do? Have you checked out Headkaze's CPWizard?
  11. well...I hate to say I told you so, but.... I told you so! I told you that you guys couldn't think dumb enough to keep up with me. Unbelieveable! Now I've got two more emulators to set up....
  12. I downloaded Nero, and followed your instructions. Your instructions seemed straight forward to me. I did the read/write in 1x speed just to be safe. I mounted both games I have using daemount. Then I started up PSX, picked Insert CD drive, and selected the drive with the .nrg file The Vampire Night drive Gave me a "CD not usable: not a CD drive" Error The .nrg file is .99GB The Time crisis 2 drive showed this in the DOS window: CDROM: Using ASPI apsi: using READ10 iso: 9660: incorrect header aspi: failed 224 hastat:0 targstat:0 aspi: sense= 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 The .nrg file is 3.35GB What now? I don't know how big of a deal this is to me, sometimes I just want to quit, and say enough is enough. Then I realize that then I would be sitting around with my thumb up my butt (Not really my thing ) So I've really got nothing better to do. So the real question is do you? My point is: I do appreciate everybody's help, but I don't want to drive any of you nuts! So When you get tired, just let me know, I will understand. I know that none of you are in the business of burning DVD's, but I would be willing to send someone my Games if they wanted to try burning them, just to find out if its me (or my equipment) or not. I guess the only thing that would prove is that I do have PSX set up correctly if I had a working copy. If the disks couldn't be copied, then it might also show that it's not just me.... Has anyone successfully copied Either "Vampire Night", or "Time Crisis 2"? Thanks Again!
  13. I took another look at this today, I don't have a problem with using ePSXe, or PSX, they both seem straight-forward to me. I was using the epsexecutor, and I had downloaded mooby, and petes, and a bunch of plugins, so I think I was on the right track. I also tried making an image again using Alchohol 120%, but my trial period has expired, and I tried uninstalling, running a registry cleaner (Easy Cleaner), and then re-installing, but no go. I also tried CloneCD, I have Version 5, and the instructions for the earlier versions didn't really apply, at least not in my brain! I took your advice and tried to run PSX from the CD in my drive. The CD rom drive in my game computer doesn't even recognize the disk - "please insert disk", when the disk is already in, so I copied PSX to my laptop, which is running vista, and tried to load a CD. I received "CD not usable: unable to read CD with any driver" error. I had all along been using my laptop to try and make the image of the CD, Because I knew the Gaming computer wouldn't. So I am ASSUMING that the problem lies with the inability of the Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17RS ATA device to read the CD. More importantly, What do you guys think?
  14. I just did a search for "maximus" to see what Bkenobi was refering to in another thread. I want to be clear that I wasn't trying to start anything, I set mame up over a year ago, for all I know things are different, and even if they aren't, I don't consider it to be a big deal. I know that you guys know I'm your biggest supporter! I do have to tell you though, that when I set up my Mame.exe path in CPWizard, it made me smile!
  15. Maybe this answers the quetion in the thread about how to set up your folders. I've never given it any thought, I just change the paths to what I need. The thing that really bugged me when I first started using GX, was that I already had Mame setup, and I had to go through and do it all again in GX. I thought back then that GX should just grab the paths out of the ini. The way they set themselves up in the CPWizard is way cool!
  16. Shaunopp, Well, believe it or not...I (we) did it! I truly appreciate your patience, I'm sure if I was you I would have poked my eyes out just so I didn't have to see any more posts about Zinc! Thanks!

    MAME Arcade Cab

(guys, let me get this one!) O.K. first off, you do know that this is a Gameex (GX) forum right? All of the people that post here on a regular basis have all been brainwashed by Tom (the author of GX) to tell you what he wants you to hear. I'm not going to do that, I'm going to tell you the truth. I downloaded Mala, and about 6 or 8 other frontends, and it is not my intention to bash any of them. To be honest, there is no way I could remember (I suffer from CRS) what I didn't like about any of them specifically. I can tell you that for me, after I do download something, I have to be able to use it right away without alot of complications. At the time, the only emulator that I was using was Mame. With GX, if you already have Mame working, all you have to do is set up your paths and go. It is also fairly easy to set up other emulators as well. Not only does GX have over 100 configurations for different emulators, It will even download some of the most popular ones for you. Reasons to use Gameex: 1. Alot of nice features 2. Program under constant developement 3. A great Forum Take five minutes and go to: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showforum=2 at the top of the page, click on "view new posts", and see how many questions go unanswered. I'm willing to bet that 99.9% will at the very least have a response the first day, with many having a solution. That's tough to find. And, as you may have noticed, most of the questions are not about GX itself, but about setting up other emulators, and how to hook up an arcade monitor I personally have only registered two programs that I have downloaded. The first one I registered to get more features, and support is nonexistant. The second one is Gameex, and I didn't register for extra features, I registered because after trying alot of other front ends, I felt that Gameex was worth it, and then later learned that the support that you can find in the forums is unbeatable. Get Gameex, what do you have to lose? Welcome Aboard!
  18. Shaunopp, I got around to looking at Zinc today, downloaded Nologic's files, jogging my memory..... I think the problem for me is that using xpadder doesn't help me with my control panel buttons, because they are connected via the minipac, which is seen as a keyboard. So now I either have to use xpadder, and auto hot key, or re-wire my buttons to my joystick. I'm thinking that the biggest problem .....F!@k it, I'm not going to try and guess what my problem is, because I don't have a clear enough view of the big picture to even know! Here's what I have done: Mame Daphne Raine Nebula Visual Pinball These are all working, no controller problems. I guess the best thing would to re-wire my CP. My logic is that it won't be a big deal to change the controllers in my existing emulators, and I would be forward compatible if I wanted to add game pads in the future. (And I said I wouldn't guess! ) Somebody stop me if this makes no sense at all. (Seriously!)
  19. What I did is nothing compared to you guys.... I'm still available to help with the EASY stuff, so if somethiing comes up let me know.

    Mame Question

I think you guys need to lighten up. I need people like this to keep me laughing!

    Mame Question

Another option is to use an older version of Mame. I cant' remember if .118 was the first version that did not have that option, or the last one to have it, but it is one or the other. Version .117 would (if memory serves) definately do what you want.
  22. Brian, I tried Clone CD, but it only allows me a file type of .dvd heres what I did: 1. selected "read to image file" 2. Right click on my dvd player icon to change options (made sure reading sub channel info was checked) 3. In the next window when I right click on the DVD icon, I get a menu but am unable to select anything. 4. go ahead and write file "vampire.dvd" So now I have the file "vampire.dvd", but ePSXe, PSX1.8, and deamon tools do not seem to use this file type. Maybe I have to purchase the program to "unlock" the DVD menu? I don't mind paying for it if it will do what I need, (I am a registered user of Gameex ) but I don't think that is the problem. Read on...... Shaunopp, Since I hadn't played around with platstation in awhile, I tried it again this morning to see what was going on. When using pSXv1.8, no matter which file type I use (bin, cue, iso) I get the "Iso 9660: incorrect header:" error. I think that I must have tried mounting an image using Daemon tools lite, because there is an option to "load Cd drive". I didn't try it again this morning, but it didn't work before... I have also tried ePSXe, but when I go to "Run ISO" all I get is a black screen. in the Dos Window it shows: * Running ePSXe emulator version 1.6.0 * Memory handlers init. * ePSXe: PSX BIOS loaded [c:\Emulators\espxe\bios\scph1001.bin]. * Loading ISO Format [bIN/IMG2352] ok * NTSC cdrom detected. * Doing init gpu[0]... * Gpu open [0]... * Direct input init ok. * Doing spu init... * Spu open... That's about all I can tell you.... (Is there a way to cut and paste from a Dos window?)
  23. Shaunopp, I don't have the black screen issue. I would say that the biggest problem is controls.I took a step back last night, and figured out that of course I can't use WB plugin, because GX doesn't interact with that interface. DUH! I think Bkenobi mentioned that, but it didn't hit home until last night. Also, Using Zinc Gui, I have found that the games run better using the Soft GPU tab. My settings there are:800x600, Fullscreen, don't show framerate, framerate detection, framerate limit 100. I did not try these on all of the games, so they may not be best overall. I did find the games that I tried to run faster, and look better using Soft GPU. I didn't see a plugin for that....I am still willing to buy a grahics card if that will help. (I'm using Intel on board graphics now) My command line is: C:\Emulators\zinc\ZiNc.exe --roms-directory=C:\Emulators\zinc\roms --renderer=C:\Emulators\zinc\Plugins\Renderer_D3D.znc --controller=C:\Emulators\zinc\Plugins\Controller_KB.znc My system: 7:16:25.7 2/1/2008: GameEx: Version 9.08: Starting Log 17:16:25.8 2/1/2008: Operating System Platform: Win32NT 17:16:25.8 2/1/2008: Operating System Name: Windows XP 17:16:25.8 2/1/2008: Operating System Version: 5.1.2600 17:16:25.8 2/1/2008: Checking for versions of .net Framework installed 17:16:25.8 2/1/2008: .net Framework 2.0 Installed 17:16:25.8 2/1/2008: Intel® Celeron® CPU 2.40GHz, 1022MB I do have an minipac which I use for my Control Panel, and trackball. I also have a U360, but I do not use the wiring harness for input or output. I would be willing to re-wire my panel if it would help, as that would solve the another problem I have with not being able to use Page up/down in GX, which apparently can't be done the way I am set up now. (two different devices) I don't think at this point that missing 4 games will kill me, like most everyone else here, am mostly doing this as a hobby, with the bonus of playing games when I have friends over. I originally started with Mame 0.36, and a 1x12 board with a spinner and two buttons just to pay Tempest. I didn't touch it again, until Mame 0.111, then skipped to Mame 0.121 to where I am now. I thought that I had my cabinet built, until I saw some of the cabinets here, you guys have done a great job! So for now I'm playing with the software, and waiting for warm weather to build a new cab. Now, I'm rambling.... Don't apologize for pointing out the obvious, sometimes it's just what I need!
  24. I have this same problem playing....what game was it now?...oh yeah, Tempest. I could play for hours in Mame, but using GX, it would quit in 20 - 30 minutes. I don't have a solution, just another vote for yep, it happens. I will help test if it needs to be done.
  25. It would seem that I have placed myself in this same predicament. I too have set up Zinc using Dafreak's Gui and Winterblast's plugin. So now I have the same problem, to which I don't beleive an answer was given. Is my only choice to start over with Zinc? I actually tried some of the stuff below, and then found that it is specialized for gamepads. It was more simple for me to set up the controllers using "point and click" - just my speed, is there no way to use the configs that I have created?
